BELGESEL FİLM ANLATISI BAĞLAMINDA NAKKAŞ LEVNİ’NİN HALİÇ’TE GECE GÖSTERİLERİ KONULU MİNYATÜRLERİNİN KOMPOZİSYON TASARIMI AÇISINDAN İNCELENMESİ
Belgesel sinemanın kendine özgü bir sinematografik dili ve tasarımı bulunmaktadır. Bir sanat dalı olarak belgesel sinemanın ana gayesi insanlara bilgiyle birlikte duyguyu da aktarmaktır. Belgesel sinemada söylem oluşturma sürecinde yazılı kaynakların büyük öneme sahip olduğu bilinmektedir. Bu bağlamda tarih yazımının görselleştirilmesinde büyük öneme sahip olan minyatür sanatı, yazılı metnin ve konuya göre gerçek olayların; zaman, mekân, karakterler ve söylem gibi pek çok açıdan kayıt altına alınmasını sağlamaktadır. Bu çalışmada Osmanlı döneminde 18. yüzyıla damgasını vuran Lale Devri’ni konu alan belgesel anlatısında, tasarımın oluşturulma sürecine minyatür sanatının nasıl kaynaklık edebileceği, Osmanlı Padişahı III. Ahmed (1703-1730)’in dört şehzadesi için düzenlenen 18 Eylül 1720 tarihinde başlayan ve 15 gün boyunca süren sünnet şenliğini anlatan ‘Surname-i Vehbi’ (Şenlik Kitabı) yazma eseri üzerinden incelenerek aktarılmıştır. Bu kapsamda incelenebilecek en seçkin örneklerin başında gelen eser, sadece sünnet şenliğini anlatmakla kalmamış Lale Devrinin en önemli yazılı ve resimli tanığı olarak günümüze ulaşmıştır. Topkapı Sarayı Müzesi’nde (A.3593) muhafaza edilen yazmada, Osmanlı saray şenliği 137 minyatür ve açıklayıcı metin ile kronolojik olarak kayıt altına alınmıştır. Eserin metnini dönemin saray şairi Vehbi (Ö.1736) yazmış, minyatürlerini dönemin saray baş nakkaşı Abdül Celil Çelebi (Levnî) (Ö.1733) yapmıştır. Nakkaş Levnî eserde alaylar, ziyafetler ve Haliç’te gece gösterileri olarak üç ayrı gurupta minyatür kompozisyonları yaratmıştır. Bu çalışmanın örneklemini ‘Haliç’te Gece Gösterileri’ konusunda yapılmış olan dört çift sayfa minyatür tasarımı oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışmada amaç belgesel film anlatısı söylemini oluşturmada tarihsel yazın kaynağı olarak önemli yere sahip olan minyatürleri; metin ile minyatür arasındaki söylem ilişkisi, sahne düzeni, sahnede yer alan figürler, figürlerdeki hiyerarşik sıralama ve kullanılan renkler gibi farklı açılardan ele alarak görsel söylemi okumak üzerine bir çözümleme yapmaktır. Çalışmanın sonucunda her kompozisyonun gerçek tarihi akışında, gerçek olay ve kişilere sadık kalarak minyatürün kurallarına uygun şekilde, nakkaşın kendine özgü tasarım üslubuyla yaratılmış olduğu görülmüştür. Belgesel sinemanın anlatım tarzına uygun şekilde minyatür tasarımlarında da ana karakterler daha büyük resmedilerek kompozisyonun merkezinde konumlandırılmıştır. Levnî resimlerinde figürlerin kıyafetleri, aksesuarları, dekordaki diğer eşyalar ve diğer yan figürlerde gerçekte tercih edildiği gibi kırmızı, sarı, yeşil, turuncu gibi sıcak renkleri tercih etmiştir. Gerek kıyafet tasarımı gerekse mekân kurgusunda aslına sadık kalarak minyatürün belgeselci gücünü sonuna kadar kullanmıştır. Bu bağlamda belgesel sinemanın söylemini oluşturduğu gibi dönemin belgeleme tarzı minyatür sanatının da önemli bir yere sahip olduğunu söylemek, oldukça anlamlı bir sonuç olarak karşımıza çıkmaktadır.

The 1720 Imperial Circumcision Celebrations in Istanbul offers the first holistic examination of an Ottoman public festival through an in-depth inquiry into different components of the 1720 event. Through a critical and combined analysis of the hitherto unknown archival sources along with the textual and pictorial narratives on the topic, the book vividly illustrates the festival’s organizational details and preparations, its complex rites (related to consumption, exchange, competition), and its representation in court-commissioned illustrated festival books (sūrnāmes).
To analyze all these phases in a holistic manner, the book employs an interdisciplinary approach by using the methodological tools of history, art history, and performance studies and thus, provides a new methodological and conceptual framework for the study of Ottoman celebrations.

In late July 1720 Sultan Ahmed III (r.1703-1730) and his high-ranking officials took the decision to host a circumcision festival in Istanbul that would start in mid-September and continue for three-weeks. As the narrative sources mentioned, among various other preparations that the officials had to take care of, the most urgent one was to construct big and small naḫıls (lit. “date palms”), consisting of wooden poles decorated with wax, fruit, flowers, and giant scale candy gardens (sing. bāġçe-i şeker). Despite this concern, the authors did not provide substantial information related to the construction process of these objects. Interestingly, this lack of information is also seen in other narrative sources on previous imperial celebrations. Based on an analysis of unknown archival documents and on a comparison with the textual and pictorial sources related to the 1720 festival, this essay intends to elucidate the design and construction process of these splendid objects, which were indispensable material forms of Ottoman imperial festivals.

This study contains the examination and identification of the religious sufistic elements in the poem named "Epic of the Words of the Ancestors" by Levni who lived in XVIII. Century and is known both as a painter and folk poet. Within the scope of the study, first, biographical information about Levni is given and his identity as a painter and folk poet is addressed along with his works. Levni's name in the historical records is Abdülcelil Çelebi. Levni, who was originally from Edirne, is also famous as a miniature and calligraphy artist. He holds the title of being the most famous miniature artist of the time he lived with the innovations he brought to miniature art.

Historical records reveal that Levni went from Edirne to Istanbul at a very young age. Levni learned the art of illumination in the painting house of Topkapı Palace in Istanbul and became the master painter of the palace during the period of Mustafa II. It is known that Levnî kept this position in the period of Ahmet III.  In addition to this position in the palace, it is also understood from the records that Levni was a folk poet who performed works in the form of folk poetry, and many of his poems reached to the present records.

Within the framework of this study, religious sufistic elements (eg, having an honest heart, being a perfect human being, and a wise mentor and guide, being esurient, belief ring ...) in the poem of "Epic of the Words of the Ancestors" of Levni were identified and studied with religious sufistic semantic dimensions.
