Kollokationskompetenz

In den deutschsprachigen Lernerwörterbüchern werden Kollokationen kodifiziert, gelegentlich auch noch in einer markierten Wörterbuchartikelposition. Das weist auf ihre Relevanz für die Benutzer, d.h. die Lerner des Deutschen als Fremdsprache hin. Die Kriterien der Definition der Kollokationen als sprachlicher Einheiten sind jedoch in den Lernerwörterbüchern linguistisch nicht hinreichend. Auch ihre lexikographische Auswahl, die in letzter Zeit zwar korpusbasiert begründet ist, ist nicht immer nachvollziehbar. In diesem Beitrag werden die Ergebnisse einer Untersuchung präsentiert, in der einige ausgewählte Kollokationen in deutschen Lernerwörterbüchern auf der Grundlage des Deutschen Referenzkorpus mit Hilfe textkorpusbasierter Methoden überprüft werden.

The objective of this paper is to highlight problems connected with assessment of collocational competence in teaching German as a foreign language as well as their possible solutions. We begin with a description of the notion of collocation from the teaching perspective and list its most important features. Then we discuss the ways in which collocation competence has been assessed. Selected empirical studies are presented with the focus on the employed methodology. Then a discussion of their methodological value follows. In the next part of the paper we turn to an account of possible analytical tools for studying all three components of collocational competence and propose two alternative methods which allow to assess it during formal courses of a foreign language. Finally, we present our conclusions concerning the possibility of collocational competence assessment.

Although vocabulary plays an important role in the foreign language lesson, it is not widely discussed in the professional literature available in German. With reference to the contemporary approach to teaching vocabulary and existing models of lexical competence, i.e. those mostly developed in English-speaking countries, and published in professional publications and in GeR, we wish to start a discussion about an entirely new understanding of the notion of lexical competence. We propose to divert from lexical competence seen as an aggregate of multiple elements, and to replace it with a new model, in which lexical competence is based on sub-components. Hence, in the present article we first clarify the notion of competence. Then the notion of vocabulary is also clarified, indicating various components involved in knowing a word, which are reflected in our new concept of lexical competence. In this article also a few new sub-components of lexical competence are proposed, of which two, i.e. word-formation competence and collocational competence together with lexical strategies, are more closely described. Finally, some suggestions concerning the new model of lexical competence are sketched out.

Das Ziel des Beitrags ist es, die Gedanken von Aleksander Szulc, einem berühmten polnischen Fremdsprachendidaktiker, zu konventionellen Syntagmen darzustellen. Seine konventionellen Syntagmen können als Kollokationen gedeutet werden. Im Laufe der Zeit ersetzt Szulc, nachdem sich in wissenschaftlichen Publikationen der Terminus Kollokationen etabliert hatte, den von sich postulierten Terminus durch den Kollokationsbegriff. Die Kollokabilität der Sprachen, die sich in dem Terminus konventionelle Syntagmen widerspiegelt, wird von ihm aus der Sicht des Fremdsprachenerwerbs und Fremdsprachenunterrichts aufgefasst. In dem Beitrag wird gezeigt, welches Verhältnis er zwischen konventionellen Syntagmen und dem Wortschatzerwerb sieht, welchen Einfluss konventionelle Syntagmen auf die Interferenz ausüben, inwieweit und warum sie in der fremdprachlichen Wortschatzarbeit berücksichtigt werden müssen. Seine weiteren Überlegungen beziehen sich auf die (Un)Möglichkeit des kreativen Umgangs mit Wortschatzbeständen. Insgesamt wird in dem Beitrag gezeigt, warum die konventionellen Syntagmen  ihren festen Platz im Fremdsprachenunterricht, insbesondere in der Wortschatzarbeit haben sollten.

The aim of this article is to familiarise others with ideas of Aleksander Szulc, an eminent Polish linguist with reference to a phenomenon of collocationality. Although in his works from the 60s and 70s Szulc frequently dealt with the aspect of conventional syntagms, which partially reflect the notion of collocations, his works are omitted in studies on collocations. The analysis of Szulc's work presented in this article aimed at tracing references to conventional syntagms. The following were presented in this paper: a perspective Szulc assumed for the phenomenon of collocationality, how his approach to and understanding of conventional syntagms changed over time and how he moved from the concept of collocational syntagms to collocations. Concurrently, this article is an attempt at reintroducing Szulc's ideas in the academic discourse as well as an appeal for a necessity to consult his works in studies on collocations.

Im Mittelpunkt dieser Longitudinalstudie steht die Frage danach, wie eine Kollokationskompetenz bei fortgeschrittenen DaF-Lernenden aufgebaut werden kann. Kollokationskompetenz schließt neben der Internalisierung und dem angemessenen Gebrauch von Kollokationen ebenso die Entwicklung einer Kollokations(lern)bewusstheit und eines Kollokationsbewusstseins ein. Auf der Grundlage umfangreicher empirischer Daten werden u.a. Aussagen zum Einfluss der Unterrichtsgestaltung auf die Entwicklung dieses besonderen Teilbereiches lexikalischer Kompetenz sowie zu den individuellen Faktoren gemacht, die das Lerntempo bestimmen. Die Studie macht deutlich, dass der Aufbau einer fremdsprachigen Kollokationskompetenz ein mühsamer und langwieriger Prozess ist, für den eine explizite Arbeit an Kollokationen von großer Bedeutung ist.
