La mer Adriatique et la mer Ionienne ont des caractéristiques très similaires:
elles peuvent être qualifiées comme « mers semi-fermées », selon l’article 122 de la
CNUDM, et elles sont deux bassins qui peuvent devenir, pour la plus grand partie,
« eaux intérieures » de l’UE après l’adhésion des tous les etas riveraines à cette
organisation supranationale. L’article a le but d’analyser les formes de coopération
bilatérale et multilatérale que les etats riverains ont été en mesure de réaliser, les
domaines dans lesquels la coopération n’a pas été recherchée et les opportunités que
la Stratégie de l’UE pour la région de l’Adriatique et de la Mer Ionienne offre pour progresser dans une gouvernance partagée des deux mers.

The cargo of marble blocks off Capo Bianco was dated to the Roman period. New sampling and analysis has identified Carrara marble, and also Rosso di Francia (Rouge Languedoc) and Portargento, which strongly suggests a post-medieval date. This leads to the suggestion
that nearby finds dating between the second half of the 18th century and the first half of the 19th may come from the same ship, perhaps sailing from France and Liguria to deliver stone in southern Italy. This is rare evidence of the post-medieval marble trade and demonstrates the importance of archaeometric analysis for the interpretation of wrecked cargos.

This paper will take into consideration characteristics and dating of the pottery from the Scoglio della Sirena’s wreck. The wreck
was discovered in 1990 off the coast of Crotone (Italy), 4,5 meters deep. The cargo, datable to the mid-IIIrd century AD, contained
ARS and ACW.

The region of the Ionian Sea occupies a geographically complex area off the south western Balkan Peninsula, which since the Pleistocene underwent significant alterations due to tectonic activity and sea-level fluctuations. This dynamic environment presented different landscapes and seascapes to the human communities occupying the region at different times in the past, providing an ideal setting for their study from a diachronic perspective. The principal aim of this two-day conference is to investigate the reciprocally transformative relationship between human communities and natural setting and the multi-layered interconnections between sites, islands, archipelagos and the adjacent continental coasts during the periods ranging from early prehistory to the end of the Bronze Age. Fieldwork west of the Pindus mountain range has since the mid-20 th century produced a rich archaeological record dating back to the Palaeolithic. During the last twenty five years, the results from excavations and systematic survey projects have not only enriched but also altered our perception of settlement, subsistence, mobility and interaction patterns in the region. The investigation of these patterns and the processes of circulation of raw materials, artefacts and ideas sheds light on aspects of regional and interregional communication, collective memory and the creation of distinct identities within and between different cultural and social groups. We invite contributions from specialists in different fields working on topics including but not restricted to: site and regional organization, maritime connections, funerary landscapes, technology and craft production, short and long distance exchange. We also welcome phenomenological approaches and results from GIS studies, underwater archaeology and geoarchaeological projects, geospatial analyses and mobility network analyses. In this way we hope to address the dynamic relationships between human communities, questions relating to their relationship with the sea, the critical role of coastal environments in the formation of cultural and economic networks of exchange, and the associated social transformations these communities underwent, from the Palaeolithic to the end of the Bronze Age.

Keywords: Ocean bottom seismometer Minimum 1D velocity model Ionian basin Upper mantle serpentinization a b s t r a c t Simultaneous inversion of P-and S-wave arrival times, collected during a 3-years Ocean Bottom Seis-mometer with Hydrophone (OBS/H) monitoring campaign, yields 1D P-and S-wave velocity models for the Ionian lithosphere (Central Mediterranean). The 1D model highlights the presence, in the Ionian upper mantle, of two layers characterized by high seismic P-wave velocity (S1 and S2, 6.3-6.7 and 7.5 km/s, respectively). These two layers, with thicknesses of about 3.3 km and 5 km, respectively, and ranging from ∼8 to ∼16 km in depth, are characterized by low S-wave velocity (S1 = 3.05-3.2 km/s, S2 = 3.85 km/s) and high values of V P /V S (S1 = 2.06-2.09, S2 = 1.95). This is a characteristic feature, often encountered in passive margins and is generally interpreted as partly serpentinized peridotite. The V P , V S and V P /V S values of S1 are consistent with 55-65% of serpentinization of the upper mantle, while the S2 ones are consistent with 15-25% of serpentinization. This research provides a crucial hint about the debated nature of the Ionian crust, suggesting its oceanic structure.

1. Boat surveys aimed at studying short-beaked common dolphins and common bottlenose dolphins in eastern Ionian Sea coastal waters were conducted between 1993 and 2003. During 835 survey days, 24 771 km of total effort was distributed within an area of 480 km2, resulting in 428 common dolphin and 235 bottlenose dolphin sightings. 2. Individual photo-identification was performed extensively throughout this study, making it possible to monitor the number of animals seen in the study area each year and their long-term residency patterns. 3. Common dolphins declined across the study period, from 2.18 encounters/100 km in 1997 to 0.40 encounters/100 km in 2003. In contrast, there was a relatively stable presence of bottlenose dolphins, some individuals showing high levels of site fidelity and others using the area only occasionally. 4. The artificial pond “Sette Nani” is a small, brackish lagoon on the Ionian coast of Apulia (southern Italy), about 50 km SE of Taranto. Its environmental (temperature, salinity, pH) and faunal characteristics were investigated (Ariani and Wittmann, 2014) in the frame of a study on ecology and breeding biology of the Mysida species Diamysis cymodoceae Wittmann and Ariani, 2012. These investigations revealed the presence of two copepod species: (1) the harpacticoid Tisbe tenera (G. O. Sars, 1905), and (2) the calanoid Calanipeda aquaedulcis Kritchagin, 1873, first recorded here for the Ionian Sea and for the Ionian coast of the Italian peninsula, respectively. C. aquaedulcis is an invasive, essentially brackish-water element first described from the Ponto-Caspian basin and subsequently reported from several localities along the Mediterranean and the Eastern Atlantic coasts. Certain samplings of the species showed a sex-ratio near 1.0, indicative of potential genetic sex-determination, thus suggesting that the population components were born in the pond and developed there without apparent sexual selection. A sudden bloom of C. aquaedulcis was noted in January to March 2015, in accordance with the typical winter to early-spring maximum in this species, in this case coinciding with the massive appearance of a filiform green alga which quickly covered large parts of rock substrata: in fact, most fixed copepods were found inside the algal network, which they may have used for avoidance of predation. A population regression down to almost disappearance occurred in May, however followed by a further growth in August: the latter events may be explained in the light of the well-known production of resting eggs by C. aquaedulcis.

Hereby, we explore the trends of meteorologically induced extremes of sea level, the variability and the occurrence frequency of storm surge extremes at the near-shore regions of Greek Seas for a period of 150 years (1951-2100), under IPCC’s A1B climate scenario (increasing future concentrations of greenhouse gases). Extreme storm surge events pose a great threat to coastal areas and can cause loss of land and property, damages to structures and even human casualties. We explore the trends of sea level over the Greek Seas for a period of 150 years (1951-2100) under the A1B future climate scenario, using a high-resolution storm surge model. Our results suggest that there is a general decreasing trend in storminess under the considered climate scenario. More extreme events may occur over the Ionian region, while the southern regions reveal stronger decreasing trends.

Extreme storm surge events pose a great threat to low-elevation coastal areas and can cause loss of land and property, damages to structures and defenses, and even human casualties. Hereby, we explore the trends of meteorologically induced extremes of sea level in the Mediterranean Sea, with a specific focus on the Greek seas, for a period of 150 years (1951-2100). The analysis is based on hydrodynamic simulations of storm surges with a couple of high spatial resolution model implementations for 2D shallow water equations, the Greek Climate Surge Model (GreCSM), which is nested to the coarser domain of the Mediterranean Climate Surge Model (MeCSM). RIASSUNTO Si riportano i taxa di Crostacei mysida noti per la Puglia, in base ai dati biblio-grafici e a reperti inediti, entrambi frutto di ricerche in massima parte degli Autori. nell'ambito dei 30 taxa citati-tra cui una specie nuova per la fauna italiana-particolarmente interessante risulta la componente salmastricola, la cui entità e diffusione riflette l'abbondanza e la diversificazione degli am-bienti salmastri della regione. Si ripercorre l'iter delle ricerche faunistiche e il loro sviluppo in vari campi della Biologia: la tassonomia, con la descrizione di nuove specie e sottospecie del genere Diamysis; la biomineralogia, con la segnalazione della rara vaterite (CaCo 3 esagonale metastabile) nei corpi statici di Diamysis e successivi risultati riguardanti: i rapporti tra composizio-ne minerale degli statoliti, tassonomia, ecologia e corologia delle specie; lo sviluppo di uno statolite vateritico e le sue implicazioni a livello filogenetico; gli aspetti quantitativi della precipitazione minerale nella statocisti di mysi-da marini. Di rilievo appaiono le implicazioni della composizione minerale degli statoliti a livello di biogeografia storica, con la distinzione-in ambito mediterraneo-tra le poche specie a statoliti carbonatici (in particolare, di Diamysis e Paramysis) di verosimile origine paratetidiana e quelle a statoliti fluoritici di evidente origine atlantica: con l'indiretta conferma dell'ipotesi di Hsü et al.
