Incertae sedis

We present evidence that the single representative of the crustacean order Amphionidacea is a decapod shrimp and not a distinct order. After reviewing available morphological evidence, it is concluded that Amphionides is a larval form, but with an as yet unknown parentage. Although the most likely adult form is in the family Pandalidae, the limited molecular data available cannot fully resolve its affinity. We therefore propose to treat Amphionides reynaudii as incertae sedis within Caridea, rather than a separate family. In view of the large scale, tropical and subtropical distribution of the taxon, the possibility is discussed that Amphionides is more likely to be a composite taxon at generic level, rather than larvae of a single shrimp species.

PREMISE OF THE STUDYFossils show that fly-speck fungi have been reproducing with small, black thyriothecia on leaf surfaces for ∼250 million years. We analyze morphological characters of extant thyriothecial fungi to develop a phylogenetic framework for interpreting fossil taxa.METHODSWe placed 59 extant fly-speck fungi in a phylogeny of 320 Ascomycota using nuclear ribosomal large and small subunit sequences, including newly determined sequences from nine taxa. We reconstructed ancestral character states using BayesTraits and maximum likelihood after coding 11 morphological characters based on original observations and literature. Species-level taxonomy and phylogeny of two genera of South-East (SE) Asian pachybolid millipedes are analysed with a combination of morphological characters and DNA sequences (two mitochondrial gene fragments: COI and 16S rRNA). Strong support is found for the genera Litostrophus Chamberlin, 1921 and Atopochetus Attems, 1953 and for a clade consisting of Litostrophus + Atopochetus. Four species of Litostrophus are recognised and (re)described: L. segregatus Chamberlin, 1921 (type species of the genus), L. scaber (Verhoeff, 1938), comb. nov., L. chamaeleon, sp. nov. and L. saraburensis, sp. nov. The family Gymnophthalmidae is one of the most speciose lineages of lizards in the Neotropical region. Despite recent phylogenetic studies, the species diversity of this family is unknown and thus, its phylogenetic relationships remain unclear and its taxonomy unstable. We analyzed four mitochondrial (12S, 16S, Cytb, ND4) and one nuclear (c-mos) DNA sequences of Pholidobolus anomalus, Cercosaura manicata boliviana and Cercosaura sp., using the maximum likelihood method to give insights into the phylogenetic relationships of these taxa within Cercosaurinae. Our results suggest that Pholidolus anomalus is nested within the clade of Cercosaura spp., that material we collected near Oxapampa belongs to a new species of Cercosaura, and that lizards identified as Cercosaura manicata boliviana belong to a separate lineage, possibly a new genus. Antecedentes y Objetivos: Delastria rosea es un hongo de hábito hipogeo, se caracteriza por presentar una gleba rosa y esporas globosas con ornamentación reticulada. Se conocía hasta la fecha del norte de África, sur de Europa y California en Estados Unidos de América. El objetivo del presente trabajo es registrar D. rosea para la micobiota mexicana.Métodos: Se realizaron recolectas siguiendo las recomendaciones para el estudio de los hongos hipogeos. El material estudiado proviene de bosque mesófilo de montaña del estado de Michoacán, México.Resultados clave: Se describe Delastria rosea para la micobiota mexicana; se discute las semejanzas y diferencias con las descripciones europeas y norteamericanas.Conclusiones: Se considera que los ejemplares estudiados corresponden a Delastria rosea, a pesar de las diferencias que presentan con las descripciones europeas y norteamericanas.

After the examination of the oak cynipid inquilines deposited in the Parasitic Hymenoptera Collection of the Agriculture and Forestry University of Zhejiang (ZAFU, China), we provide a revision of the species of Saphonecrus, Lithosaphonecrus, Ufo (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Synergini) and Ceroptres (Hymenoptera: Cynipidae: Ceroptresini) found in mainland China. Two new species of Saphonecrus are described: S. albidus Lobato-Vila and Pujade-Villar, sp. nov. and S. segmentatus Lobato-Vila and Pujade-Villar, sp. nov. Four Saphonecrus species (S. gilvus Melika and Schwéger, 2015, S. globosus Schwéger and Tang, 2015, S. leleyi Melika and Schwéger, 2015, and S. nantoui Tang, Schwéger and Melika, 2015) are new records for this region. A long neglected plant bug genus Babacoris Miyamoto, 1994 (Mirinae: Mirini), proposed for a single Taiwanese species, B. striatus Miyamoto, is redefined and redescribed as a valid genus, based on recent rediscovery of the type species from Hengchun, Taiwan; the neotype is designated for B. striatus. The genus is now presumed to be closely related to Paramiridius Miyamoto & Yasunaga which also has been poorly known since the original description. A species recently described from Laos, Babacoris laomontanus (Oh, Yasunaga & Lee) comb. n., is transferred from Paramiridius. An updated checklist of the tribe Mirini in Taiwan is incorporated, with proposition of a new combination, Adelphocorisella minutum (Poppius) comb. n., having been left in Megacoelum Fieber as incertae sedis. 

We propose fourteen lectotypifications and five new synonyms for species in the Stenorrhynchos clade, one of the four major lineages of subtribe Spiranthinae. Also, one species of Eltroplectris, one of Sacoila and one of Stenorrhynchos are indicated as incertae sedis.

Numerous new taxa and classifications of Dothideomycetes have been published following the last monograph of families of Dothideomycetes in 2013. A recent publication by Honsanan et al. in 2020 expanded information of families in Dothideomycetidae and Pleosporomycetidae with modern classifications. In this paper, we provide a refined updated document on orders and familiesincertae sedisof Dothideomycetes. Each family is provided with an updated description, notes, including figures to represent the morphology, a list of accepted genera, and economic and ecological significances. We also provide phylogenetic trees for each order. In this study, 31 orders which consist 50 families are assigned as ordersincertae sedisin Dothideomycetes, and 41 families are treated as familiesincertae sedisdue to lack of molecular or morphological evidence. The satyrine Euptychia pronophila Butler (Nymphalidae) was described in 1867 in the “catch-all” genus Euptychia, but was recently treated as incertae sedis. A DNA-based cladistic analysis confirms that it belongs to the Euptychiina, as sister to Forsterinaria and closely related to Taygetis, Posttaygetis, Parataygetis, Pseudodebis, and Harjesia. Although immature morphology also suggests that this species is closely related to Forsterinaria, none of the adult morphological synapomorphies for the genera in the aforementioned clade occur in E. pronophila, a highly autapomorphic species. Because we were unable to place it with confidence in an established genus, the monotypic satyrine genus Guaianaza Freitas & Peña New Genus is described, with Euptychia pronophila Butler as the type species.

The authors report the finding of Polymixis germana (Rothschild, 1914), in the Iberian Peninsula, a quotation that represents a new noctuid species for Europe. This new discovery has allowed the establishment of the synonymy between P. Germana and Polymixis boursini (Rungs, 1949).

Enigmatic calcareous conical fossils have been known from marine Paleocene–Eocene sequences of New Zealand since the early 1870s. More recently, similar fossils have been recorded from both Late Cretaceous marine sequences of Western Australia, New Caledonia and Antarctica, and possibly from the Eocene of South America. The present paper extends the record to the late Cretaceous of New Caledonia. These remains are unlike any living taxa, and have been variously interpreted as molluscs (rudistid bivalves), cirripedes (stalked barnacles), annelids and inorganic structures. Assignation to the Cirripedia has been refuted by Buckeridge (1983, 1993), who proposed that the material would be better placed within the Cnidaria. ABSTRACTThe genus Lodderena Iredale, 1924 has been classified in the Skeneidae by most recent authors. However, this family, originally characterized by their minute size, lack of nacre in the teleoconch and a rhipidoglossate radula, is currently considered to be polyphyletic assemblage, and preliminary molecular systematic data suggest exclusion of Lodderena from Skeneidae. In order to shed light on the systematic position of this genus, we provide a detailed description of the anatomy and histology of the type species, Lodderena minima (Tenison-Woods, 1878), and of L. ornata (Olsson & McGinty, 1958). The anatomical data confirm the vetigastropod-trochoid nature of Lodderena but exclude the genus from Skeneidae. Skeneidae are mainly characterized by a propodial penis, a hermaphroditic condition with separated testis and ovary, and a large receptaculum in the mantle roof. A comparative systematic survey of fossil Mesozoic laetmogonid sea cucumbers (Elasipodida) and their relatives is presented. A re-examination of the fossil record shows that only 13 fossil taxa can be recognised as belonging to this group. Four further known ‘laetmogonid’ taxa can be regarded as incertae sedis. An analysis of the results supports the following taxonomic changes. Palaeocaudinidae Boczarowski, 2001 represents a junior synonym of the Laetmogonidae Ekman, 1926. The subfamily Staurocaudininae Boczarowski, 1997 is restricted to the type species of Staurocaudina. The new family Palaeolaetmogonidae comprises probable stem group members of the Laetmogonidae.
