Old maps convey messages about early spatial arrangements. In some cases, they also tell a story, and hence can be qualified as 'history maps'. The interpretation of such maps is not easy, because they are witnesses to a strong dichotomy between the static representation of the landscape and the dynamic sequence of historical events. Digital Thematic Deconstruction allows to break through the iconographic composition and to extract the visual discourse from such an image stuffed with information. In this article, the method is applied to the bird's-eye view of the siege of Ypres in 1383, engraved by Guillaume du Tielt at the beginning of the seventeenth century, in order to assess the accuracy of the mapped topography and to get at the visual narrative. The results not only help interpret the meaning of such a history map, but also offer perspectives for comparing and juxtaposing history maps and textual records.

Dans la majorité des études prosopographiques concernant l’Europe médiévale, les  chercheurs se cantonnent 
aux familles de la noblesse en raison de la rareté des  sources  à  cette  époque  pour  les  autres  couches sociales. La Flandre  a la chance d’échapper à cette règle commune et de posséder de très riches archives permettant  de  reconstituer  des  familles  de  la  bourgeoisie  urbaine,  parfois jusqu’aux  XIe­XIIe  siècle,  au  moment  de  l’émergence  des  principales  cités flamandes. Dans cet article, j'étudie de plus près la famille Paeldinc/Paelding/Anguille d’Ypres, car cette famille me semblait exemplaire dans sa trajectoire 
sociale, tout à  fait  représentative  de  l’émergence  d’un “patriciat”   urbain  enrichi grâce  au commerce et qui se “notabilise” à travers l’exercice de 
fonctions municipales et religieuses tout au long des XIIIe, 
et surtout XIVe et XVe siècles. 

La très grande majorité des généalogies classiques fait descendre la famille van Dixmude d'Ypres des seigneurs de Beveren. Cet article confronte cette assertion aux sources primaires ainsi que secondaires et évalue la crédibilité de cette ascendance de prestige.

Over the last 20 years there has been a rise in archaeological research of the First World War. There are however still research topics that have not yet received much attention. As a result there is a lack in knowledge of certain subjects. One of these topics is glass, a material which is found consistently on archeological sites dating back to the First World War. Glass provides great opportunities for discovering more about consumption patterns of soldiers. A lack in the knowledge of these materials as well as the lack of large scale research synthesis are the main causes for the lack of research done around these findings and their potential.
This study provides a detailed examination of British glass, with the main emphasis on glass shapes, content and the large trend lines within glass consumption. The study also aims to be a stepping stone to further research on glass dating back to the First World War, and its great potential.
