Optimal System operation involves the Consideration of economy of operation, system security, emission of certain fossil-fuel plant. The main aim of this study is to minimize the fuel cost and to keep the power outputs of the generator within prescribed limit with the use of An Ant colony Optimization Techniques. It is based on the ideas of ant foraging by pheromone communication to make path. Ant Colony Optimization technique is a meta-heuristic approach for solving hard combinatorial optimization problems which can be applied for power system optimization. The work reported in this paper is carried out with the objective to make use of Ant colony Optimization for solving the economic load dispatch problem. IEEE-26 Bus 6 generator system is considered to test the Algorithm with cost functions. The proposed approach result has been compared to those which reported in the literature.

We present a method for autonomic intrusion detection and response to optimize processes of cybersecurity in large distributed systems. These environments are characterized by technology fragmentation and complex operations making them highly susceptible to attacks like hijacking, man-in-the-middle, denial-of-service, phishing, and others. The autonomic intrusion response system introduces models of operational analysis and reaction based on the combination of autonomic computing and big data. We implemented a proof-of-concept and executed experiments that demonstrate significant improvement in effectiveness and scalability of the method in complex environments.

To facilitate cost-effective and elastic computing benefits to the cloud users, the energy-efficient and secure allocation of virtual machines (VMs) plays a significant role at the data centre. The inefficient VM Placement (VMP) and sharing of common physical machines among multiple users leads to resource wastage, excessive power consumption, increased inter-communication cost and security breaches. To address the aforementioned challenges, a novel secure and multi-objective virtual machine placement (SM-VMP) framework is proposed with an efficient VM migration. The proposed framework ensures an energy-efficient distribution of physical resources among VMs that emphasizes secure and timely execution of user application by reducing inter-communication delay. In recent years, there is an increasing trend of integrating large capacity offshore wind farms into power grids through UPFC compensated TLs for accommodating large flow of power. The nonlinear fluctuations of output power due to unpredictable variation of wind speed and the different operating modes of the UPFC greatly affect the performance of the conventional distance relaying-based TL protection scheme. This article investigates the impact of such TLs on distance relay performance and proposes a two criteria-based new fault detection and classification scheme. The method utilizes the sign of the change in the magnitude of positive-sequence current at both ends of the line for fault detection and the transient monitor index derived from the locally measured three-phase current for fault classification. The performance of the proposed scheme is evaluated on different fault and nonfault transients generated on two standard test systems through EMTDC/PSCAD during different operating modes of UPFC and at different wind speed. The performance of the proposed scheme is further validated through dSPACE DS 1103-based real-time digital simulation platform. Finally, the comparative assessment results with some important existing methods justify the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents a systems view of refurbishment systems to evaluate root causes of suboptimal refurbishment. Case studies from ten selected South African and Malawian firms from largest electric power utilities, mining, petrochemical, and processing industries were used to establish causal relationships. Sample surveys of thirty four Malawian firms were used as part of a multimethod or triangulation approach to provide generalizations, validation and reliability. Of the surveyed firms, 66.7%, and of case studied firms 100%, showed that deferred refurbishment was a result of constrained capacity which led to components operating at higher loads, to lack of maintenance windows and to increased failure rates; there was no formal refurbishment model and technical skills base was the weakest asset management link. ABSTRACT A compact architecture for real-time directions-of-arrival estimation, tracking, and beamforming is presented. It is based on the phased-array concept. Beamforming is digitally realized. The system concept and architecture are described in full detail. A proof of concept prototype, including a 1 × 2 planar array, an analog front end, and an field programmable gate array (FPGA)-based embedded system, is built and measured. The system is controlled by a GUI running on a mainstream laptop. The architecture is tailored to the use of low cost, off the shelf, and readily available components.
