This article aims to understand patient wellbeing and satisfaction and to qualify the current guidelines for the application of art in hospitals. Employing anthropological methods, we focus on the interactional aspects of art in health interventions. A user-oriented study ranked 20 paintings, followed by an experiment using paintings in the dayroom of five medical wards. Fieldwork was done over a two-week period. During the first week, dayrooms were configured without the presence of art and in the second week were configured with the artworks. Semi-structured interviews, observation, participant observation and informal conversation were carried out and were informed by thermal cameras, which monitored the usage, patient occupation and flow in two of the dayrooms. The study shows that art contributes to creating an environment and atmosphere where patients can feel safe, socialize, maintain a connection to the world outside the hospital and support their identity. Este artículo tiene como propósito analizar la coexistencia de prácticas, ofertas médicas y curativas populares y oficiales en México durante la primera década del periodo posrevolucionario (1920-1930) a través del estudio del curandero ecléctico José Fidencio Síntora Constantino, mejor conocido como el Niño Fidencio (1898-1938). Se argumenta que la fluidez entre prácticas, ofertas y concepciones sobre los procesos de salud, enfermedad y atención, contrastó y se enfrentó con los anhelos de las instituciones sanitarias, así como de distintos médicos diplomados, cuando el suministro de los servicios de salud a través de las ofertas y propuestas de atención oficiales se erigió como un sustento clave para el proceso de reconstrucción nacional. De igual forma, el notable caso del Niño Fidencio arroja luz sobre las tensiones y la pluralidad de ofertas médicas que acompañaron los procesos de fortalecimiento de la medicina institucional en América Latina durante las primeras décadas del siglo pasado, e ilustra cómo sus eclécticas ofertas de atención y de curación ocuparon una notoria presencia pública en los medios masivos de comunicación, precisamente en un momento marcado por las incertidumbres del saber biomédico.

How might embodied inquiry - ceremony, meditation, breath work - with Black, Xicanx and other resilient communities help re-vision liberatory relationships with land? How can embodied inquiry tap into concealed stories, healing mythologies, or visions that (may) counter dominant conceptualizations of land? And how might this inquiry sustain and inform action? Building on Gloria Anzaldúa’s attention to the “inner work” of social justice, in this paper I revisit moments from my work with fellow Black and Brown communities as a Blaxicana scholar-practitioner of geography and mind/body healing. Each of the moments - from meditative hiking with other Black women to vision circles with youth of the global majority (of color) - explores relationships with land through the body. I theorize how co-participants and I (re)construct present relationships with land while reimagining the past and the future; I consider how our inner work becomes a catalyst for further action around food and land justice. Grounded in black feminist geographies, indigenous feminisms, and in the genre-shifting works of Anzaldúa and Audre Lorde, this paper presentation combines creative ethnography with embodied praxis. Throughout, I embody the "inner" practices I describe (guided meditation, visioning, breath work) and invite session attendees to practice with me. This paper contributes to on-going conversations about liberatory land justice in theory and practice.
