Hans Jonas

O presente artigo busca ensejar uma discussão geral sobre a obra de Hans Jonas intitulada Princípio Responsabilidade, veiculando seu principal tema, a noção de responsabilidade, a discussões centrais do campo da ética, que são articuladas com alguns textos já clássicos da história da Ética, em específico, a noção de dever, muito presente no pensamento do filósofo iluminista alemão Immanuel Kant, e seu antropocentrismo tão característico.

Ces dernières années ont été le théâtre d'une étonnante résurgence de la question anthropologique. Parmi les propositions les plus débattues, il y a eu celle qui consisterait à penser l'homme non pas comme un animal doué de langage, mais avant tout comme un homo pictor ou encore comme un homo spectator, capable de produire et de reconnaître ses propres images. Si entre-temps, cette idée d'une anthropologie par l'image a permis d'inaugurer des nouveaux domaines de recherche, comme l'anthropologie visuelle, celle-ci relève cependant d'une histoire déjà plus ancienne dont cet ouvrage livre quelques clés. Entre ceux qui considèrent que les images sont le reflet exact de l'homme et ceux qui, au contraire, sont d'avis que les artefacts visuels mènent une vie dont les raisons échappent à la logique anthropocentrique, se dessinent aujourd'hui les lignes de front de ce qui s'apparente à une nouvelle querelle de l'image.

O estudo que se inicia tem como abordagem o tema da morte, delimitado na problemática do diagnóstico da morte encefálica e das respectivas indagações nas esferas jurídica e filosófica. Tem como objetivos a discussão dos critérios elencados na Resolução nº 1.480/1997, do Conselho Federal de Medicina, baseados nos estudos médicos desenvolvidos em Harvard, bem como sintetizar o pensamento de Hans Jonas e a contribuição do cristianismo para a ruptura da chamada " ontologia da morte ". Utilizar-se-á pesquisa bibliográfica como método. O alcance social engloba profissionais das áreas do Direito, da Filosofia e da Medicina. O estudo do tema é justificado diante das controvérsias oriundas da adoção do critério da morte encefálica, em detrimento de outros entendimentos mais abrangentes e com fins mais protetivos e extensivos também aos outros órgãos do corpo humano. As conclusões estão alicerçadas na prevalência do direito à vida sobre a morte, a partir de Jonas, que traz a ideia de monismo integral ou filosófico, e do cristianismo, com a noção de salvação pelo evangelho.

According to Hans Jonas (1903–1993), the modern technological progress endowed humanity with wondrous power, which in the long run risks altering the nature of human action. This is especially true for the realm of collective action, the effects of which evidence an unpredicted issue: the ecological crisis, which is the “critical vulnerability” of nature to technological intervention. This discovery brings to light that the whole biosphere of the planet has been added to that which human beings must be responsible for because of their power over it. There is, however, a further dimension of vulnerability (and responsibility) to be considered, namely the one which characterizes organic life as such. Indeed, the essence of all living organisms–human beings included–is characterized by vulnerability, given their precarious and unstable condition of “needful freedom” towards the environment. Nevertheless, terrestrial life flourished through a multifaceted and unplanned (thus, again, vulnerable) evolution of living forms, ranging from bacteria to human beings – these evidencing a unique degree of freedom, which Jonas refers to as a “metaphysical gap” towards other living beings. The problem is that the present-day technology provides the possibility to manipulate the very essence of life and human nature. Is this process to be accepted and accomplished? And what about the related risks? Indeed, according to Jonas, issues such as genetic manipulation, euthanasia, organ transplantation, assisted reproduction, exploitation of other living beings etc., raise ethical dilemmas which can be addressed thanks to the idea of vulnerability. This notion has, according to Jonas, a metaphysical background, which he describes as follows: in the beginning, the Divine chose to give itself over to the chance, risk and endless variety of becoming. In order that the world (and life, and human freedom) might be, God renounced his own being, divesting himself of his deity. Thanks to this mythical account, the previous levels of vulnerability (concerning nature, life, and human nature) gain further clarification as signs of something sacrosanct.
