Cruise Control

This paper proposes a mode switching supervisory controller for autonomous vehicles. The supervisory controller selects the most appropriate controller based on safety constraints and on the vehicle location with respect to junctions. Autonomous steering, throttle and deceleration control inputs are used to perform variable speed lane keeping assist, standard or emergency braking and to manage junctions, including roundabouts. Adaptive model predictive control with lane keeping assist is performed on the main roads and a linear pure pursuit inspired controller is applied using waypoints at road junctions where lane keeping assist sensors present a safety risk. A multi-stage rule based autonomous braking algorithm performs stop, restart and emergency braking maneuvers. The controllers are implemented in MATLAB® and Simulink™ and are demonstrated using the Automatic Driving Toolbox™ environment. Numerical simulations of autonomous driving scenarios demonstrate the efficiency of the lane keeping assist mode on roads with curvature and the ability to accurately track waypoints at cross intersections and roundabouts using a simpler pure pursuit inspired mode. The ego vehicle also autonomously stops in time at signaled intersections or to avoid collision with other road users.

In this project we investigate the effect of heavy-duty trucks, equipped with different Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) systems, on the environment and traffic flow characteristics. The sluggish dynamics of trucks whether manual or ACC that is due to their limited acceleration capabilities filter speed disturbances caused by leading vehicles and lead to beneficial effects on the environment and traffic flow characteristics. This response however may lead to higher travel times in certain situations as well as invite cut-ins from neighboring lanes causing additional disturbances. A new ACC design that is developed and experimentally tested reduces some of the negative effects of trucks in mixed traffic.

The goal of this paper is to present the work done by IFSTTAR and CEESAR during the first large scale field operational test in Europe: the EuroFOT project. During the project duration, the FESTA methodology has been applied in real conditions for the first time, in order to evaluate 8 different mature driving assistance systems. The French partners were in charge of performing an impact assessment of the speed regulation system, which is a bundle of two different functions: speed limiter, and cruise control. In this paper, we present the overall process of performing such an evaluation using naturalistic driving data coming from 35 drivers from Paris region. We provide the reader with technical, practical, and methodological aspects, with a focus to the lessons learned. The general conclusion takes profit from the results to determine the best practice for evaluating the impacts of a longitudinal driving assistance system.

El proceso de integracion de componentes que se requiere en los proyectos no es una tarea simple. La integracion de software es un problema complejo sobre todo en sistemas que involucran codigo desarrollado por diferentes personas, por esta razon es necesario contar con un entorno que garantice la adecuada integracion de las partes de un proyecto y posibilite visualizar los resultados de la integracion de una manera facil y clara. En este marco la Integracion Continua ofrece un esquema que permite realizar integraciones a medida que se lleva a cabo el desarrollo generando incrementos pequenos y mostrando los resultados obtenidos. En este sentido el presente trabajo plantea un modelo de referencia cuya finalidad es construir una solucion open source que implementa la Integracion Continua, y permite evaluar los beneficios que aporta al proceso de desarrollo de software cientifico – tecnico.

This paper aims at different types of transportation problems by presenting a proper management process to improve the public transportation management system. In modern era, the accidents and the indifference makes the major death rate, this is because of the lagging of immediate precautionary actions. In order to decrease the death rate and also to improve the immediate measures for the effect is proposed by using the method of IoT. In this system, every bus contains GPS to track the bus if it met with an accident, crash sensor and pressure sensor is also used to check whether the bus dashed with other vehicles or not and piezo sensor is to check if the bus roll down due to any mechanical failures. The level of accident at the hazardous weather that is, the wind flow at hills station makes an unstable condition for the transportation system. Basically, in hill areas the wind flowin every day is unpredictable one and a challengeable one. To avoid those risky factors, we implemented cruise control which accommodate the speed limit of the vehicles according to the pre-moving vehicles.
