This article describes an arts-based intervention program for seven care dyads of elderly persons and their caregivers who are foreign domestic workers (FDWs) in Singapore. The intervention aimed to introduce interdisciplinary tools of artmaking and mindfulness that could be used to improve the communication and relationship between the care dyad and to support the stress reduction and self-care of caregivers. Following a client-based approach, eight sessions were conducted, once weekly, over a 2-month period in hybrid structure, at the home of the care dyad and through the use of Google Meet. Qualitative data were collected in personal interviews, questionnaires, and visual data, and they were connected with art therapists' fieldnotes and reflection journals. At the end of the program, an online feedback session was offered to the elderly participants' family members, and their feedback was collected using a questionnaire. The data analysis confirms the impact of the artmaking intervention on the communication and relationship of the dyad. Participants reported that artmaking combined with mindfulness tools contributed to their understanding of their care-recipient (CR)/caregiver, improved their daily care activities, and helped caregivers explore new ways of self-care and stress relief. The hybrid model of implementation was effective and encouraged caregivers to explore and practice the tools learned independently between sessions. The results of this pilot program inform the development of intervention programs for care dyads as well as training programs for both caregivers, art therapists, and other care professionals. The intervention for care dyads highlights the importance of dyadic care as part of a holistic approach to caregiving. The inclusion of FDWs in the program suggests that both CRs and caregivers are one unit in which their well-being is interdependent. Further research may explore specific artmaking activities for other dyads of caregivers and CRs with differing care needs and backgrounds. Potential training activities and models could support the use of this intervention by therapists and other professionals.

What is it? Dance Movement Psychotherapy (DMP) is a form of therapy that uses the body, movement and dance as a way of expressing difficulties and findings ways of exploring and addressing these difficulties. It is an approach to therapy that is based on the body and in this way it is very different from the idea that talking though problems is the only way of finding solutions. The Association of Dance Movement Psychotherapy UK (ADMP UK) refers to the discipline as follows: " DMP recognises body movement as an implicit and expressive instrument of communication and expression. DMP is a relational process in which client/s and therapist engage in an empathic creative process using body movement and dance to assist integration of emotional, cognitive, physical, social and spiritual aspects of self (ADMP 2013; p.1). " As a form of therapy it is often regarded as one of the arts therapies such as music therapy, art therapy and drama therapy and a type of embodied psychotherapy, aligned next to verbal and body psychotherapies. It is a relatively new discipline, founded in the 1940s in the USA and only in the 1980s in the UK. In different countries, we can find the same form of therapy with different names: dance movement psychotherapy (UK), dance/movement therapy (USA), dance-movement therapy (Australia), dance therapy (Germany) and so on. In all cases, therapists receive specific training and licence to practise in the discipline and offer their services to a wide range of vulnerable groups across the life span. They may work in hospitals, schools, social services, charities, care homes, or prisons offering one to one or group work. Some therapists work in private practice. In these different settings, practitioners may follow different approaches, but they all adopt a specific direction based on the needs of the clients; they all also check whether these needs are met. In an early publication, we have outlined some common features of the work across settings and client populations (Karkou and Sanderson 2006). For example: • We see that dance is defined widely to include a range of different practices including breath, posture, gesture, pedestrian movement, rhythmical movement and less often a more technical or style-specific dance vocabulary. In all cases skill is not a requirement for people to begin this type of therapy and learning steps is not what takes place within sessions. • We regard embodiment, ie the connection one may have with their own physical self, of high value because it can support a body-mind integration. • We see creativity, the creative process and enabling patients to find creative solutions to problems as an aspect of psychological health. • Imagery, symbolism and metaphor are important tools we can use to access unconscious material and feelings that are difficult; using these tools allows us to work through difficult issues indirectly. • Non-verbal communication is an important aspect of the practice for its capacity to go beyond verbal or written words and enable communication within one person, between two people and amongst members of a group. • We have a firm belief that the quality and shape of the relationship between the client and the therapist has a major role to play in achieving therapeutic change.

Abstract
Art therapy, as well as other arts-based therapies and interventions, is used to reduce pain,
stress, depression, breathlessness and other symptoms in a wide variety of serious and
chronic diseases, such as cancer, Alzheimer and schizophrenia. Arts-based approaches
are also known to contribute to one’s well-being and quality of life. However, much research
is required, since the mechanisms by which these non-pharmacological treatments exert
their therapeutic and psychosocial effects are not adequately understood. A typical clinical
setting utilizing the arts consists of the creation work itself, such as the artwork, as well as
the therapist and the patient, all of which constitute a rich and dynamic environment of occurrences.
The underlying complex, simultaneous and interwoven processes of this setting
are often considered intractable to human observers, and as a consequence are usually interpreted
subjectively and described verbally, which affect their subsequent analyses and
understanding. We introduce a computational research method for elucidating and analyzing
emergent expressive and social behaviors, aiming to understand how arts-based approaches
operate. Our methodology, which centers on the visual language of Statecharts
and tools for its execution, enables rigorous qualitative and quantitative tracking, analysis
and documentation of the underlying creation and interaction processes. Also, it enables
one to carry out exploratory, hypotheses-generating and knowledge discovery investigations,
which are empirical-based. Furthermore, we illustrate our method’s use in a proof-ofprinciple
study, applying it to a real-world artwork investigation with human participants. We
explore individual and collective emergent behaviors impacted by diverse drawing tasks,
yielding significant gender and age hypotheses, which may account for variation factors in
response to art use. We also discuss how to gear our research method to systematic and
mechanistic investigations, as we wish to provide a broad empirical evidence for the uptake
of arts-based approaches, also aiming to ameliorate their use in clinical settings.

This study explored parental mentalization processes as they unfolded during a sculpting task administered to fathers of toddlers. Parental mentalization-the parent's ability to understand behavior (his/her own as a parent and that of their child) based on its underlying mental states (Luyten et al., 2017)-is considered crucial within parent-child relationships (Fonagy et al., 1998) and child development (Steele and Steele, 2008). Eleven Israeli first-time fathers (n = 11) of children aged 2-3 (mean = 2.3) were asked to sculpt a representation of themselves with their child using clay. Following the task, the fathers were interviewed while observing the sculpture they had created. Qualitative thematic analysis integrated three types of data-video footage of the sculpting processes, the sculptures themselves, and the transcripts of the post-sculpting interviews. By focusing on data extracts relating to mentalization processes, three main aspects of the clay-sculpting task and interview were identified as processes that either preceded controlled mentalization instances and/or related to their underlying dynamics: (1) discussing the sculpting process elicited the father's curiosity and wonder; (2) observing the sculpture/sculpting process revealed gaps in paternal representations; and (3) the preplanning of the sculptures sparked non-verbal exploration of metaphors and symbolism. Special attention was given, in the analysis, to the interplay between verbal and non-verbal aspects of mentalization as they appeared in the metaphorical representations that arose through the sculpting process. Comparing this sample to a previous sample of mothers who were given the same task, similarities and differences were explored, with specific reference to topics of embodiment, gender roles, paternity leave, and an active approach in art therapy. The discussion indicates that clay sculpting may offer unique insight into implicit parental mentalization. Possible clinical applications are discussed, with reference to attachment theory and clinical art therapy approaches.

Aim: This aim of this study is to describe the development of a program logic model to guide arts-based psychosocial practice delivered in rural South African farming communities affected by transgenerational traumas.

Background: The rationale for developing a program logic model for arts-based psychosocial practice in South Africa was based on the lack of evidence for effective community arts-based psychosocial interventions for collective trauma, unknown consensus about best practices and the need for developing cogent collective psychosocial practices. Further to this, the aims and benefits of the practice required clarity given the psychosocial complexity of the environment within which the practices for this population are being offered. The logic model offers a valuable resource for practitioners, participants and funders to understand the problem being addressed, how practice is defined, as well as the impact of practice and on intermediate and longer term goals.

Methods: The authors used a systematic iterative approach to describe the operationalization of arts-based psychosocial practice. This resulted in the design of the logic model being informed by data from focus groups, an overview of the literature regarding transgerenational trauma in this population, operational policies and organizational documents. The development of the logic model involved actively investigating with practitioners their work with remote farming communities. We thematised practitioners practice constructs to identify salient practice elements and their relationship to perceived benefits and lastly feedback from practitioners and participants following implementation to make adjustments to the logic model.

Results: The results were clearly identified in the form of visual mapping using the design of a program logic model. The logic model was divided into 5 parts and was verified by practitioners following implementation. The parts of the program logic model are (Part 1) main presenting problem, (Part 2) operational processes, (Part 3) practice elements, (Part 4) benefits, and impact and (Part 5) review.
