Birinci bölümde havayolu taşımacılığında finansal yönetimin temel özellikleri belirtilmektedir. Bu amaçla ilk olarak sırasıyla finansal yönetim ve önemi ile birlikte finans yöneticisi tarafından verilen temel finansal kararlar açıklanmakta, bir işletmedeki finans yöneticisinin temel sorumlulukları sıralanmakta ve organizasyonda finans bölümünün konumu belirtilmektedir. Daha sonra ise endüstrinin finansal performansı ile kısa ve uzun vadeli stratejileri açıklanarak finansal yönetimin havayolu taşımacılığı için önemi vurgulanmaktadır.
İkinci bölümde havayolu işletmelerinin maliyet yapısı açıklanarak maliyetlerin kontrol edilmesi için yapılması gerekenler ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele alınmaktadır.
Bölümde ilk olarak havayolu işletmelerinin maliyetleri sınıflandırılmakta, maliyetlerin neleri kapsadığı örneklerle ele alınmakta ve sayısal verilerle desteklenmektedir. Buna ek olarak havayolu işletmelerinin maliyetleri azaltmak amacıyla neler yapmaları, hangi stratejileri uygulamaları gerektiği ayrıntılı bir şekilde açıklanmaktadır. Son olarak uygulanan iş modeli esas alınarak havayolu işletmelerinin maliyet yapıları değerlendirilmektedir.
Üçüncü bölümde ilk kısımlarda havacılık ve havaalanı güvenliğinin tarihçesi üzerinde durularak, 11 Eylül terör saldırıları ve etkileri tartışılmaktadır. Takip eden başlıklarda; 11 Eylül terör saldırıları sonucunda havacılık güvenliğinin arttırılması için alınan tedbirler ve bu saldırılara karşı reaktif mücadele yerine proaktif mücadelede etkin olacak Risk Yönetimi kavramı üzerinde durulmaktadır. Bu bölümde son olarak güvenliğin sağlanmasında insan faktörünün önemi
açıklanmaktadır. Dördüncü bölümde ilk olarak havaalanı ve havayolu ilişkisinde meydana gelen değişimler, havaalanı ve havayolu işletmelerini işbirliğine yönelten nedenler, dikey işbirliği çeşitleri açıklanmaktadır. Daha sonra ise ağ taşıyıcı merkez havaalanı
ilişkisi, düşük maliyetli taşıyıcı-ikincil havaalanı ilişkisi ve havaalanı-havayolu dikey işbirlikleri üzerinde yasal düzenlemelerin etkisi tartışılmaktadır. Beşinci bölümde öncelikle hava taşımacılığının ekonomik katkıları daha sonra hava taşımacılığının sosyal katkıları ele alınmaktadır. Genel olarak hava taşımacılığı ve yerel anlamda ele alındığında havaalanı faaliyetleri sonucu meydana çıkan olumsuz çevresel etkiler kısaca sıralanıp hava taşımacılığında sürdürülebilirlik
kriterleri sunulmaktadır. Altıncı bölümde hava taşımacılığı sektörünün en önemli unsurlarından biri olan havayolu işletmelerinin, dünyanın en küreselleşmiş sektörlerinden biri olan hava taşımacılığı sektöründe rakiplerine karşı sürdürülebilir bir rekabet avantajı elde etmede yararlandıkları yeni, modern, çağdaş yönetim yaklaşımları ele alınmıştır.
Bu amaçla ilk olarak söz konusu bu yeni yönetim yaklaşımlarından birkaçı kavramsal olarak ele alınmakta, ikinci olarak havayolu işletmelerini yeni yaklaşımları uygulamaya götüren temeller ele alınmaktadır. Daha sonra söz konusu yeni yönetim yaklaşımlarının havayolu işletmeleri tarafından nasıl kullanıldıkları ve ne gibi avantajlar sağladığı vb. hususlar açıklanmaktadır.
Yedinci bölümde sürdürülebilirlik kavramının üç saç ayağından biri olan sosyal etkiler üzerinde durularak, yapılan bazı araştırmaların sonuçları ışığında güvenliğin artırılması amacı ile getirilen uygulamaların toplumsal etkilerine, bu etkilerin güvenlik görevlileri ve dolayısıyla güvenlik süreçlerinin etkinliği üzerindeki döngüsel süreçlerine odaklanılmaktadır. Bu amaçla sırasıyla havaalanı güvenlik önlemlerinin gereklilikleri, havaalanı güvenlik hizmetleri ve bileşenleri açıklanarak
yolcu memnuniyetinin havaalanı güvenlik süreçlerine etkisi tartışılmaktadır.
Sekizinci bölümde turizm endüstrisinin gelişiminde hayati öneme sahip olan havayolu taşımacılığı turizm ilişkisi açıklanmaktadır. Bölümde ilk olarak hava taşımacılığı ve turizm endüstrisinin dünyada ve Türkiye’de mevcut durumu ele alınmaktadır. Sonraki kısımlarda ise hava taşımacılığı turizm ilişkisi ele alınarak kısa bir Türkiye değerlendirmesi yapılmaktadır.

Multi-airport systems are growing in number and size globally, despite being afflicted by known inefficiencies due to the interferences between the flows of neighbouring airports. A macroscopic empirical approach is proposed in this paper to estimate the capacity penalties and demonstrated by a numerical case study for Beijing, which is projected to become one of the busiest metroplexes in Asia. The Pareto envelopes of the theoretical and observed peak hour capacities are statistically analysed to quantify the penalties in a comparable metroplex and are subsequently modulated by a sigmoid correlation function. The analysis predicts the practical capacity of Daxing, the penalty incurred by the pre-existing Capital airport and by the total multi-airport system. Various findings are drawn and discussed, highlighting the needs for further research.

Airport privatization models have largely been successful due to reliance over non-aeronautical revenues from retail, parking,
and a host of other services which an airport offers. In this context, it becomes important for airports to understand their
customers and tailor their marketing efforts according to these customers' requirements. A need-based segmentation is a first
step towards this effort. An empirical research study of passenger travellers of Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA),
Hyderabad, India was conducted in October 2014, and data was collected about the importance of passengers' needs. A
survey of RGI airport passengers returned 502 valid responses. Using SPSS 21, empirical data analysis was done through
Cluster Analysis to determine the market segments of RGIA air travellers. The market segments were further analyzed using
cross tabulation with the demographic data of the passengers to obtain specific profile and main characteristics of the
different segments. It was revealed that most of the top-ranked needs of all the passenger segments were similar with regard
to primary core needs, but varied with respect to non-core needs. This study also located the 'needs' gaps which can be
effectively exploited to maximize the non-aeronautical revenues.

The aim of this research is to empirically examine the sustainable aspects of airport design and operations, in the context of Munich Airport, one of the world’s major airports. The primary research question addressed by this work is: What aspects of airport design and operation in a major airport are critical to its sustainability and mitigating its contributions to climate change? An exploratory single site case study methodology was utilised and the research concentrated on Munich Airport, Germany’s second busiest airport, located in Bavaria, in south east Germany. The primary business of the airport is commercial and general aviation services. Air cargo, catering and retail, and real estate are other important strategic market segments. Data was gathered from the Flughafen München GmbH annual sustainability reports and company websites. Finally, the data was analysed using content analysis. All major aspects of airports infrastructure design and operations were explored, focussing on the environmental impacts. This included water usage and management, energy consumption, waste management, and other key aspects of pollution, including noise. In the case of Munich Airport, the most significant environmental impact factors identified were aircraft emissions and noise, waste, and water management. The significance of sustainable operations in the global aviation industry is, of course, relevant to airports. Since the commencement of operations in 1992, Munich Airport’s strategic objectives have incorporated key sustainability focus areas. Indeed, the airport’s strategy is essentially sustainability-driven. The airport has implemented systems and procedures to optimise its environmental footprint, and to ensure its compliance with all applicable statutory requirements.

Flexibility is a key driver of any successful design, especially in highly unpredictable environments such as
airport terminals. The continuing growth of the aviation industry requires airport terminals to be planned and
constructed to allow for flexibility for future design, alteration and redevelopment. The concept of flexibility in
terminal design is a relatively new consideration, where existing rules or guidelines are not adequate to assist
designers. A shift towards the flexible design concept would allow terminal buildings to be designed to
accommodate future changes and to make passengers’ journey as simple, timely and stress free as possible.
Currently available research indicates that a framework supporting the flexible design approach for airport
terminals would facilitate the future design process. The generic principles of flexibility are investigated in the
current research to incorporate flexible design approaches within the process of an airport terminal design. A
conceptual framework is proposed herein, which is expected to ascertain flexibility to current passenger terminal
facilities within their corresponding locations as well as in future design and expansion.

Cities grow and prosper in relation with their transportation hubs. In the past, coastal towns with adequate harbors grew and expanded quickly. In modern times, similar prospects apply to cities with airports which provide competitive advantages for regional and urban development. In addition to being a complex system of facilities, airports are significant stimulator for economic activities in its catchment area. In the last thirty years or so, airports have become clusters of not only transportation-related operational services but also commercial and business activities (Güller Güller et al., 2003).
In aerotropolis setting, an airport and its close environment are closely related, as they have strong relationships, therefore influence each other significantly. Although numerous design guidelines related to operational services in and around airports have been developed, land use planning and design guidelines are rarely discussed. This paper focuses on the principles and relationships for land use planning and design of airports and their environs. In parallel to the expansion prospects of Sabiha Gökçen Airport in Istanbul where Third Airport is under construction due to the increased traffic in the 2000s and over-capacity reached at Istanbul Atatürk Airport on the European side, we explore planning and design framework of 4 different airport city cases.
