Globalisation and Localisation of Engineering Education in AfricaThe problem of globalisation and localisation of engineering education in Africa is discussed in this paper. This is because, as compared to other continents, engineering education in Africa is still far behind in terms of quality and importance and is considered outdated and has no place in global engineering. To this impact, authors have argued that the globalization of African engineering education could be a possible solution to this anomaly facing the continent's engineering education. It is on this note that this research argues that it is important to globalize engineering education in Africa. This study further argues that while it is important to globalize engineering education, it is also relevant that it is localised alongside. To this end, this study believes that engineering education on the continent needs to undergo a 'localized globalization' for engineering education in Africa to take its correct place and role in global engineering. It is through this notion that this research is organized. Based on the analogy of this report, it is concluded that engineering education on the continent must be 'globalized locally' in order for engineering education in Africa to take its rightful place in world engineering. Therefore, this study recommends that local engineering values should be mixed together to achieve successful localized globalization while globalizing engineering education in Africa.
In the era of global economy, intense commercial transaction of goods and services among several countries are the common practice since the end of twentieth Century. In this Century, not only the goods are marketed worldwide, the mobility of professionals is also taking place in this scenario. Demand for experienced professionals with sound understanding in international working environment is devised. This paper intends to report a successful experience in engineering education by the international students exchange program carried out during two years (2001 - 2002). The program between CEFETPR/BR and WHZ/DE that exchanged 15 engineering students of final year from both countries is the main focus. They participated actively in study program and professional training in industry to gather information to produce the thesis for the graduation requirement. Due to the remarkable outcome from the students involved, mainly for the opportunity to be trained in the international environme...
Engineering generally has reformed the dynamics of life and it has brought immense changes to the conduct of activities globally. Apart from the enormous benefit engineering has for human sustenance, it is also the core for the existence and development of the society. Taking a cue from history, engineering has rehabilitated the crescendos of life and culture. Civilization and politics is ingrained in how effectively a society embraces engineering. This fact is proven by existing works that attested to the role of technological innovation brought about by engineering education in shaping wealth creation and economic growth which thereafter influences politics. The study considered the political dimension of engineering education in Africa and it was revealed that Sub Saharan Africa lacks home grown capabilities in engineering, as well as high rate of unemployment among graduates of engineering which typifies that, there is a major problem that must be tackled. The study concluded that politics especially in Africa influences engineering education and therefore recommends that engineering education actors must provide leadership in all political processes and wealth creation.

CONVERGENCE AND DIVERGENCE IN ENGINEERING EDUCATION IN AFRICA2021 •
Engineering education is the process of teaching and learning engineering which has the capacity to make systems, processes and structures better. But in solving problems, there has been the case for having a finite appropriate solution or a plethora of solutions known as the convergence-divergence nexus. The convergence-divergence complex has been at the front burner of issues since the beginning of the 1950s and various scholars have argued for both in addressing challenges. This study unraveled the engineering education dynamic while also trying to understand convergence and divergence in engineering education in Africa. findings from the study revealed that Findings from the study revealed that convergence-divergence has been at the front burner of issues for long and various authors have made the case for each of the concepts as a result of their defining peculiarity and applicability. It was found out that it is important to understand both processes so as to ensure the selection of the best approach to issues and it was thus important to analyze both. This study, therefore, recommends that there must be synergy between convergence and divergence to ensure appropriate solutions to challenges in engineering education.

Globalization is making both developed and developing countries think about effective and efficient strategies that will advance their economies and social development. Throughout the history of civilization, engineering has played a critical role in economic development. Engineers are key not only in solving local problems but also in knowledge creation and knowledge transfer. Thus, it is imperative that technical know-how be supplemented with professional skills to develop an ‘adaptive leader’ who is capable of addressing the multiple challenges of an ever changing world. The key-question posed by the 21st century global economy to engineering educators and stake-holders is this: “How can education in science and technology help to reduce poverty, boost socio-economic development, and take the right decisions for sustainable and environmental compatible development?” To answer these questions, a global approach is needed: and this can only be accomplished by a “team” which has its...
