The Effect of Charged Air Pressure for Engine Efficiency Management2020 •
Charged Air Pressure change is required to improve diesel gas engine efficiency however, this has a risk of knocking and temperature increased, which causes a trip. In this paper, it will be discussed the effect of various charged air pressure on engine efficiency. The pressure was varied from 2400 to 2700 millibar with a constant load of 15.2 MW under ambient temperature between $29^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ and $30^{\circ} \mathrm{C}$ for 3 to 4 hours each experiment. The result shows that the increase of charged air pressure decreases engine efficiency, whereas decreasing charged air pressure increasing engine efficiency but increase also temperature and knocking which can cause engine trip. Measurement results show that the optimal charged air pressure is 2450 millibar with exhaust gas temperatures between $570^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$ and $580^{\circ}\mathrm{C}$. This indicates that the setting of charge air pressure properly is required to obtain optimal engine efficiency while maintaining...

Study and Analysis on Compressed Air Powered Vehicles2023 •
It is hard to believe that compressed air can be used to drive vehicles. However that is true, and the compressed air operated car, as it is popularly known, has caught the attention of researchers worldwide. It has zero emissions and is ideal for city driving conditions every automotive industry is looking to reduce the weight of the vehicle as it helps in the better handling of the vehicle and increases the efficiency of the vehicle. Today, the heavy vehicles are known for producing a large amount of harmful gases like CO2, SO2 etc. Although it seems to be an environmentally-friendly solution, one must consider its well to wheel efficiency. The electricity requirement for compressing air has to be considered while computing overall efficiency. Nevertheless, the compressed air vehicle will contribute to reducing urban air pollution in the long run.
Automobile plays a major role in transportation of passengers and goods. The engine is the power source of automobile and uses fossil fuel. However, the consumption of fossil increases emission, cost and demand. This makes the need in search of an alternate source of fuel to meet the demand. Many research are going on alternate fuels and an attempt is made to run an engine using compressed air. The modified engine works by using compressed air as fuel to produce mechanical power output without any emissions which pollutes the environment. The main aim of the project is to modify a Bajaj DTSi four stroke engine to run using compressed air. The engine operates in two strokes that is downward stroke during which the air enters and expands by doing work and the upward stroke to make the piston to reach the TDC. The air engine is tested with different pressures and load. The result showed that the increase in pressure to the inlet of the engine increases the speed and load carrying. At 10 bar pressure the engine runs at a speed of about 3000 rpm. Hence the compressed air can be integrated with conventional IC engine using the same arrangement with piston and cylinder to run a vehicle.

Homogenous charge Combustion ignition (HCCI) engines are being considered as an alternative to diesel engines. The HCCI concept involves premixing fuel and air prior to induction in to the cylinder (as is done in current sparkignition engine) then igniting the fuel –air mixture through the compression process (as is done in current diesel engines) As per the report of united state congress (2005), The HCCI engines might be commercialized in light duty vehicles by 2012 and by 2015 as much as half million barrels of oil per day may be saved. Because of the need of reduce worldwide fuel consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, there is strong interest in HCCI worldwide. This paper describes the results & operation of a single cylinder KOEL engine in HCCI mode. This experiment represents the first step towards the development of engine based on HCCI concept.

Nowadays environment pollution becomes a much serious issue in the world. Vehicles' exhaust product is one of the major source of environmental pollution. The engine combustion products are causing the greenhouse effect, acid rains, ozone layer depletion and some other pollution. On the other hand, many study research on fossil fuel in the previous years, observed that if the oil is consumed at this rates, 81% of the entire available resource will be consumed very soon. So now we begin to get some alternative energy to replace fossil fuel. There is some alternative sources of energy, like battery, photocells, hydrogen fuel cell, bio-diesel or compressed air can be chose. Among them, compressed air is freely available as well as free from pollution contents , and also can be compressed to higher pressures at an extremely low cost. Present work describes the compressed air technology that addresses the problems of exhaust gas pollution from automobiles, as well as utilization of f...
Nowadays, automobiles consume a large number of fossil fuels. However, the consumption of fossil fuels has brought many serious environmental problems, such as global warming, ozone layer depletion and fine particulate matter. To avoid such environmental problems, renewable energy has been applied to automobiles. In this paper, an air-powered engine of a renewable energy vehicle is introduced. To lay a foundation for the optimization of compressed air engine (CAE), a physical model of compressed air engine (CAE) is established with cam which controls compressed air charge or discharge cylinder. To obtain performance of the CAE, a prototype CAE system is set up. The output torque, power and efficiency are obtained through experimental study. The results show that the prototype of CAE has a good economic performance under low speed and when the supply pressure is 2 MPa, the maximum output power is 1.92 kW; the maximum output torque is 56.55 N • m; and the maximum efficiency is 25%. This research can be referred to in the optimization of air-powered engine.

A Review on Homogenous Charge Compression Ignition EngineHomogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine uses a relatively new mode of combustion technology. In principle, there is no spark plug or injector to assist the combustion process, and the combustion starts at multiple spots once the mixture has reached its auto ignition temperature. The challenges over the operation of HCCI mode engines are the difficulties of controlling the auto-ignition of the mixture, operating range, homogeneous charge preparation, cold start, controlling knock and emissions of unburned hydro carbon (UHC) and carbon monoxide (CO), need to be overcome these difficulties for achieve successful operation of HCCI mode engine. This paper reviews the working principle of HCCI mode engine and analyse the knocking in the HCCI combustion. And also review the impact of Homogeneous charge on HCCI combustion parameters such as Heat release rate and maximum pressure. However, reviews the performance and emission characteristics of HCCI engine. For each of these parameters, the theories are discussed about successful operation of HCCI engine with comparative evaluation of performance and emission are reported in the specialized literature.

The development of the compressed air powered engine model starts with modify the existing engine, cleaning of engine ,and reassembling of the parts as per need. After that build the engine into two working stages that working with gasoline for two cylinders in the first stage and working with compressed air for rest one cylinders in the second stage. In this thesis, the research focuses on the second stage.
