This article aims to explore a little-known research field from the historiographical point of view: the everyday lives of women in the rural world of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada in the thirteenth century, based on the hagiographical work Tuḥfat al-mughtarib by the Andalusi author Aḥmad al-Qashtālī. After outlining some initial reflections on the constant invisibility of these women, in its pages we will analyse their presence and the various roles everyday in the endogamic social and family fabrics of both their habitat and time; their functions and agencies inside their homes; and the peculiarities of female nutrition. To achieve this purpose, we will apply both the gender perspective and an interdisciplinary methodological approach to the critical philological analysis of this work in which subjects such as Arab and Islamic studies, medieval history, architecture, archaeology, gender studies, and the analysis of material culture are closely interwoven.

Shameless normalisation of impoliteness: Berlusconi’s and Trump’s press conferences2020 •
This paper applies the notions of impoliteness and shameless normalisation to potentially impolite behaviours produced by Donald Trump and Silvio Berlusconi in official press conferences. Press conferences, as an activity type, involve relatively clear expectations and norms, so that impolite behaviours theoretically constitute particularly salient violations. We present two case studies involving racist and misogynist insults on the part of Berlusconi and Trump, respectively, analysed in their co-textual, interactional, socio-political as well as historical contexts. We describe the kinds of impoliteness that each politician employs, without any apology, and argue that they involve violations of the traditional moral order that are part of a far-right populist agenda of shameless normalisation. In each case, we examine comments posted in response to YouTube videos of each incident and provide evidence of polarised responses, but with substantial proportions expressing positive eval...
Abstract – This article provides a close reading of Seneca’s De bene¬ficiis 6.32. This passage tackles the story of the emperor Augustus exiling his only daughter Iulia maior by reading a libellus against her in the Senate. It is suggested that Seneca had the original text of the libellus at his disposal, since the passage contains elements which do not belong to his style, and details which we do not find in the historical sources of the event. This passage should be listed among the collection of statements referred to Augustus

Putin's Holy War of the Fatherland: Sacred Memory and the Russian Invasion of Ukraine2024 •
In mid-2020, Patriarch Kirill (Gundiaev) consecrated a new church known as the Main Cathedral of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. The cathedral was dedicated to the Soviet Union’s “Great Victory” over Nazi Germany, and its interior was covered with grandiose mosaics depicting Soviet glory on the battlefields of World War II. In this version of the past, however, Soviet soldiers were shown to have supernatural help from Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. This merging of Orthodoxy and Communism shocked many observers, who viewed the two ideologies as bitter enemies, dating back the Russian Civil War. Yet on the walls of the new military shrine, the lions and the lambs had laid down together. Angels shielded Orthodox Whites and atheist Reds alike, and the Virgin gazed down on both tsars and commissars. Two implacable foes, on different sides of the greatest rupture in Russian history, had been sutured together into a single and uncontradictory version of the past. But where had this sacred synthesis come from? Who was responsible for the politics of memory preached on the walls of the Main Cathedral? And what role did these sacred memory politics later play in the Russian invasion of Ukraine?
