Application of numerical taxonomy techniques to the choice of optimum mobile phase in high-performance thin-layer chromatography (HPTLC)1999 •
A total of eight solvent systems used for the separation of 1,4-benzodiazepine mixtures were investigated. The classification of solvent systems was carried out by the numerical taxonomy technique. The selection of optimum solvent system was accomplished on the basis of information quantity and objective function. The method was found to be a rapid and efficient tool in the choice of optimum system solvent.

Analysis of some steroids by thin-layer chromatography using optimum mobile phases2006 •
The aim of this paper was the analysis of five androstane isomers by thin-layer chromatography (TLC). The choice of proper mobile phase and the optimization of the mobile phase composition are very important because the chromatographic separation is difficult to achieve. In the first step, the proper mobile phase system was chosen from seven elution systems presented in the literature using numerical taxonomy method. The proper solvent system was found to be the mixture of chloroform, acetone, and petroleum ether. In the second step the composition of mobile phase was optimized by “simplex” method and “prisma” method. The optimum TLC system can be applied for the separation of androstane isomers from real samples such as drug formulation, biological and natural sources.

To recreate the world behind the ruin in the land, to reanimate the people behind the sherd of antique pottery, to bring alive the past-in-the-present, as in an historical novel, to cherish and work upon fragments of the past, what remains of the past in the present. This is the work of the archaeological imagination – a creative impulse and faculty at the heart of the discipline of archaeology, but also embedded in many cultural dispositions, ways of thinking and talking, institutions like museums and archives, commonly associated with the modern world. This book details the components of the archaeological imagination by connecting its origins in the eighteenth century with popular culture, the heritage industry and academic interests today.

ArcAid: Analysis of Archaeological Artifacts using Drawings2024 •
Archaeology is an intriguing domain for computer vision. It suffers not only from shortage in (labeled) data, but also from highly-challenging data, which is often extremely abraded and damaged. This paper proposes a novel semi-supervised model for classification and retrieval of images of archaeological artifacts. This model utilizes unique data that exists in the domain—manual drawings made by special artists. These are used during training to implicitly transfer the domain knowledge from the drawings to their corresponding images, improving their classification results. We show that while learning how to classify, our model also learns how to generate drawings of the artifacts, an important documentation task, which is currently performed manually. Last but not least, we collected a new dataset of stamp-seals of the Southern Levant. Our code and dataset are publicly available.
