Boka heter Sanglyrikk og kom på Spartacus Scandinavian Academic Press i 2023. Den har åpen tilgang, så hele boka kan lastes ned gratis på forlagets hjemmeside. Det kom inn mange interessante svar på enquêten. Dette er mine svar. Jeg trekker frem Link Wrays versjon av Jimmy Reeds "Ain't That Lovin' You Baby" og "Porterville" med The Golliwogs/Creedence Clearwater Revival. med Link Wray. Her er spørsmålene:
1. Når hadde du sist en stor rock-opplevelse?
2. Hvilken rockelåt vil du anbefale? Pek på musikalske og tekstlige kvaliteter.
3. Musikalsk energi er viktig, men få band klarer seg uten lyrics. Hva kjennetegner den gode vokale fremføringen og den gode rocketeksten? Gi eksempler.
4. «Rock is dead, they say – long live rock!» sang The Who på albumet Odds & Sods fra 1974. Er det fremdeles liv i rocken, og hva har den å gi oss på 2020-tallet?

I sitt posthume verk, Estetisk teori (1970), kritiserer Theodor W. Adorno det sublime slik det b... more I sitt posthume verk, Estetisk teori (1970), kritiserer Theodor W. Adorno det sublime slik det ble presentert i tradisjonen fra Kant. Han vil løsrive begrepet fra dets idealistiske arv og dets positive innhold. Ifølge Adorno representerer den sublime rystelsen en erfaring av det rene nærværets negativitet. Subjektet erkjenner seg selv som natur, ikke som ideal størrelse hevet over den. ”Ørneredet” (1859) av den norske forfatteren Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson fungerer som eksempel på denne dynamikken. Fortellingen integrerer de sosiale motivene knyttet til utelukkelse og anerkjennelse og relaterer dem til motsetningen mellom natur og kultur. På den måten demonstrerer fortellingen spenningen mellom en tradisjonell, idealistisk versjon av det sublime, og det vi kan kalle en modernistisk eller negativ versjon av det sublime slik vi finner den hos Adorno.

Eddie “Son” House Junior (1902–1988) was a blues musician from Mississippi, especially known for his recordings from 1930, among which we find “Preachin’ the Blues”, one of his greatest achievements. It deals with the tension between Christian belief on the one side and the blues on the other. In his youth Son House was a committed member of the Baptist church. He held his first sermon at age fifteen. But as he developed a taste for drinking and partying, he found it hard to keep up the lifestyle that was expected from a preacher. He left the church, and in his mid-twenties he was attracted to the blues, known as the devil’s music. He started playing the guitar, and after a few years he had the opportunity to record.
“Preachin’ the Blues” addresses the conflict between the church and the blues
as it is experienced in the personal life of a blues singer and it is evident from
the performance that this is a very serious matter to House. The song consists of eleven stanzas of a partly enigmatic nature. This essay investigates the lyrics in an effort to come up with a convincing interpretation. The song seems to express an attempt at reconciliation while at the same time maintaining the contradictory nature of the opposite tendencies. The lyrics are relevant for the understanding of modern art itself, as the church and the blues offer different views of the role of music and song.

The essay presents an interpretation of the novel Thunder Road (2009) by the Norwegian author Erl... more The essay presents an interpretation of the novel Thunder Road (2009) by the Norwegian author Erlend Kaasa (b. 1976). The novel is about growing up in rural Norway in the early 1990s. At the narrative center is the love story between two teenagers. They engage in matters typical of their age, and there is quite some drama in their relationship. The male protagonist goes through a variety of feelings related to love and deceit. The novel shows how young people think about themselves in a way that is influenced both by older generations and by contemporary popular culture. In a conversation about Bruce Springsteen, his brother, who has become a fan, introduces the concept of the “big things”. He has borrowed this expression from an interview by the director David Lynch. These “big things” are of the greatest importance in both life and art. How can one talk about them without making them smaller? The problem seems to be related to that ancient discourse on the sublime or the great in literature, which is commonly attributed to Longinos. This essay investigates the concept of the big things in relation to the novel itself. I make use of Gadamer’s hermeneutic ideas of play, symbol and feast, and I emphasize the various kinds of aes- thetic experience and the intertextual and the metafictional play throughout the novel.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832–1910) is an important figure in the development of the modern notion ... more Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson (1832–1910) is an important figure in the development of the modern notion of the author, primarily by his own example, but to some degree also by his criticism. This article analyses some of the lesser known texts of his early years (1848–56) and shows how they question the status of literature. The idealist concepts of autonomy and freedom are discussed in relation to the function of literature in society. We learn that strife is a central element in Bjørnsons understanding of literature. When he introduces the concept of Naturalism in 1855, he relates literature to natural science and places truth above beauty. Reading the short story «Aanun» from this perspective shows Bjørnson turning away from idealist aesthetics and embracing modern realism.
