These systems have experienced a prominent progress in the last 20 years thanks to advances in various image processing techniques. In this paper, we present a review of different technological aspects present in surgical navigation systems. In the first part its presents some historical background followed by the basics of this type of system. In the second part are shown some technological development such as common imaging modalities, different image registration procedures and tracking mechanisms for spatial location. The purpose of this paper is to provide an introduction to the people who are new into the field of surgical navigation systems. In this paper, an exhaustive search approach is proposed for joint optimization of outage probabi... more In this paper, an exhaustive search approach is proposed for joint optimization of outage probability and average downlink throughput of indoor Femtocell Base Stations (FBS) deployment as a part of a Long-Term Evolution (LTE) heterogeneous network. The search space consists of a discretized version of all possible locations for FBS and their corresponding antenna orientation angles (if applicable). In order to provide statistically representative results in an efficient way, properly dimensioned Monte Carlo simulations were employed to evaluate both objective functions for each candidate solution. As a result, a set of solutions is obtained that is very close to the real Pareto front; from this set, one particular solution is selected according to pre-established criteria. Consequently, a reference method has been developed which can be used with a reasonable degree of confidence for obtaining a good approximation of the global optimal solutions, and thus for benchmarking other non-...
