The aim of this research was to review and analyze, from a gender perspective, the sexuality and gender contents included in the textbooks of Natural Sciences, Civics, and Ethics for the fourth, fifth and sixth grade of elementary school; this was done to point out the strengths and weaknesses on how to address these issues. We, likewise, inquired about teacher training in sexuality and gender topics, for which we relied on the testimony of four interviews with primary school teachers from Quintana Roo and Yucatán (two states of the Mexican southeast): two of them were from fifth grade, and two others were from sixth grade. The results showed that the contents of the textbooks reduce the sexuality topic to reproduction, and they do not include eroticism, which is considered relevant in the approach to comprehensive sexuality education. Scarce attention has been given to the social-emotional problem that men in the Canadian Seasonal Agricultural Workers Program undergo during the migratory process. Even less attention has been placed on their romantic partners. In this article, we inquire into the emotions felt among women from Yucatan and Chiapas, Mexico, while their partners are working in Canada. Our analysis is based on a postcolonial and intersectional perspective, as well as on a socio-anthropological and geographical approach to emotions. The strategy of inquiry is based on the qualitative approach, using a novel method of the evocation of emotion through images (photo-evoking), proposed by the authors.

ABSTRACT This paper addresses how educational and cultural contexts incorporate lessons around sexuality, particularly sexual and gender identity, and how these contexts impact on identity construction of gay men in Mexico City. We analyse the experiences of 15 gay men reported through semi-structured in-depth interviews and how they incorporate sexuality through socialisation with primary social institutions in Mexico's contemporary educational political context. The sample was divided into three generations, and was selected through maximum variability. Results show that men incorporate negative meanings around same-sex sexuality, and themselves from institutions such as school and family. Men are able to deconstruct these meanings through interactions with educational tools such as the Internet and interactions with gay friends. These results are discussed using post-structuralist perspectives to understand how identity is fluid and changing constantly, as well as the need to incorporate stigma-free curricular content in educational contexts.

La sexualidad, ese entramado cultural de símbolos, significados y prácticas, constituye la base desde la cual es posible hablar de la salud sexual y salud reproductiva, pues ¿cómo podríamos entender el embarazo prematuro o la adquisición de una infección de transmisión sexual (ITS-VIH-SIDA ) sin conocer los sentidos e interpretaciones que las y los jóvenes le confieren a la sexualidad? Más aún, ¿cómo comprender las distintas prácticas sexuales de las juventudes diversas que habitan nuestro país, sin incorporar también la categoría de género, es decir, la construcción sociocultural de la diferencia sexual percibida entre mujeres y hombres? Porque es bien sabido que la sexualidad significa algo distinto para ambos sexos, para ambos sexos dependiendo de la orientación sexual, la pertenencia étnica y el contexto rural o urbano en que se habita. En este libro hablaremos de una parte, quizá pequeña, de esa gran diversidad, la de algunos jóvenes de ascendencia indígena.

El artículo presenta una reflexión sobre el papel de la academia en la construcción de la democracia y en el ejercicio de la ciudadanía sexual a partir de los hallazgos de una investigación en el campo de la enseñanza de la sexualidad y el género en instituciones de educación superior en México. Sexualidad, derechos y violencia está dirigido a docentes en servicio y en formación de los niveles de secundaria y bachillerato en México, y a todas(os) aquellas(os) interesadas(os) en la enseñanza de la sexualidad entre jóvenes. El texto se diseñó con un lenguaje sencillo y accesible, con miras a lograr la comprensión de los diferentes conceptos asociados al tema. Incluye algunos ejercicios de reflexión para el lector, con los cuales se orienta la revisión de sus conocimientos, así como la reflexión sobre sus valores y actitudes frente a las temáticas. Por otra parte, se han incorporado actividades dirigidas a las y los jóvenes, las cuales pueden ser modificadas, mejoradas o adaptadas en función del contexto cultural y social, y del grado escolar que atiende el/la profesor/a.

Sexualities and imagined gender: education, policy and LGBT identities.

In this book, we emphasize the ways in which divergent bodies are socioculturally produced, originated through different discourses about sexuality and gender, among which are found those of public policy, education and family. In the title, the word imagined alludes to the ideas, meanings and symbols that contribute to the conformation of the identities we perform. Identities which are, will be, or could be different in a more inclusive paradigm. Gender and sexuality are imagined, practiced and recreated through the bodies we inhabit, with which we wander day by day.  Under the heteronormative paradigm, the body is framed through demands, restrictions and norms which dictate what is expected we do with our body, depending on its forms, roundness and protuberances.  From birth, it is ‘suggested’ who we should be in terms of gender, how to behave, with whom we will practice our sexuality at given times and for what purpose. Kinship relationships are also oriented by affinity, imposing heterosexual marriage and blood line reproduction; discriminating against gay couples, notably those who form a family and who decide to adopt children.

Resumen En este artículo presentamos resultados derivados de una revisión documental en la que se examinó la inclusión de la Educación Integral de la Sexualidad (EIS) en el nivel de secundaria en México. Abordamos las estrategias planteadas en la Agenda Sectorial de Educación Integral de la Sexualidad, con énfasis en la prevención del embarazo en adolescentes, y revisamos contenidos de sexualidad y género en libros de texto. Sugerimos que la inclusión de otras temáticas (abuso sexual, placer, identidades sexo-genéricas), y enfoques para el abordaje de la EIS, y la formación docente en género y sexualidad son fundamentales para poder atender la problemática del embarazo en niñas y jóvenes. La aproximación sociocultural construccionista de la sexualidad constituye una perspectiva que trasciende el hecho biológico, y concibe a las prácticas sexuales en su dimensión histórica y contextual. This paper stresses the need to incorporate Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) during the Early Childhood and Preschool school stages in Mexico. A detailed analysis of the content of strategies, courses of action and policies for early education was made for both, the local and Latin-American level. Findings indicate that there remains a need for CSE for 0 to 6-year-old Mexican children. The inclusion of a human rights and a sociocultural perspective of gendered sexuality is strongly recommended. Early life-course interactions between children and their caregivers have the potential to influence developmental outcomes in an enduring manner because they become internalized in the form of generalized mental representations. CSE encompasses the history of care where consistent and coherent secure base support is needed.

Intercultural Boundaries, Resumen: En este artículo se presentan resultados de una investigación efectuada con trabajadores agrícolas temporales en Quebec, Canadá, y en las cabeceras municipa-les de Maní, Mama y Dzidzantún, Yucatán, así como El Ramonal, Quintana Roo. En él se da cuenta de algunas experiencias de migrantes de la península de Yucatán que participaron en el Programa de Trabajadores Agrícolas Temporales en Quebec, Cana-dá (PTAT), durante 2012. Se realiza una descripción de la interacción entre algunos aspectos de las culturas de origen y de destino, poniendo énfasis en las estrategias que desarrollan los migrantes en el proceso de migración, trascendiendo el modelo dicotómico –de los estudios sobre la migración– enfocado en la sociedad receptora y las afectaciones subsecuentes en la sociedad autóctona. Abstract: This article reports the results of a research project undertaken with temporal agricultural workers in Quebec, Canada, and in the municipalities of Maní, Mama and Dzidzantún in the state of Yucatán, and El Ramonal in the state of Quin-tana Roo. In this article, I analyze some of the experiences of migrants from the Yucatan peninsula who participated in the Program for Agricultural Temporal Workers in Quebec, Canada (PTAT) during 2012. I undertake an interactional analysis between the cultures of origin and of destination, with an emphasis on the strategies that workers use for their migration process. This is done with the intent of transcending the dichotomous model that focuses on the receptive society and the subsequent affectations of the autochthonous society. En los diferentes capítulos se presentan resultados de investigación, análisis y propuestas de intervención en el campo de la salud sexual y reproductiva en jóvenes indígenas de Michoacán, Oaxaca, Puebla, Yucatán, Quintana Roo y el Distrito Federal

Research on migration, specifically on labour migration, has been carried out to inquire into topics such as the type of work migrants perform, the contexts concerning expulsion and reception of migrants, the earned remittances and country of destination, among other topics regarding the economic sphere. Likewise, a deeper insight into the subject, as well as further documentation, have been made about the violation of workers’ human rights from a legal standpoint. However, it has been until recently that an academic interest has risen regarding the emotions that are built up specifically in people that endure migration processes and precarious work contexts internationally. This research aims to make a comparative and exploratory analysis of the emotions and how they are expressed within two international contexts: on the one hand people who temporarily work in agriculture in Quebec, Canada, and on the other hand among participants within the Working Holiday program in Auckland, New Zealand.  The first case deals with farmers that carry out activities related to seasonal agricultural work in Quebec, and that cannot obtain the Canadian residence owing to the program’s characteristics. The second case deals with Mexicans registered -in New Zealand’s Working Holiday program- who can eventually apply for residency.
This research aims at identifying and analysing the sociocultural, geopolitical, and psychological conditions that cause the many different emotions expressed by migrants, and their relationship to the integral well-being (or discontent) of human beings. Likewise, this research intends to identify and analyse the motives for some people to consider it an option to sign up for international seasonal working programs. Also, make of this option their way of living, regarding lifestyle and work, even though, -in the case of New Zealand- they would be able to find a non-labour job in Mexico.
