potential and growth performance of Acacia polycantha (Wild)
subsp. campylacantha (Hochst. ex A.Rich.) Brenan. The seeds were
collected from two locations: South Kordofan and Blue Nile State.
Seeds subjected to different treatments conditions. The study
consisted of seed dormancy breakage test by several methods
(pretreatment with soaking in cold and hot water, corroding by 25
and 50% H2SO4
, and itching by electrical needle) and seedling
stock rising in the nursery in different soil media (sand, clay and
mixture).The study revealed that, seeds were pretreated by
electric needle gave the highest germination percentage (60%).
Both the electric needle and boiling water were effective
treatments for Acacia polycantha seed dormancy breakage; while
soaking in cold water and 50% H2SO4 resulted in comparable
performance. Seed origin obviously gave little effect on Acacia
polycantha seed germination capacity except for the control from
Blue Nile which was twice stronger than that of South Kordofan

This work carried out during 2011-2012 in the nursery and experimental farm of Gum Arabic Resear... more This work carried out during 2011-2012 in the nursery and experimental farm of Gum Arabic Research Center, University of Kordofan at El Obeid town, Northern Kordofan State, to study the effect of seed origin and soil media on Acacia polycantha Nutrient concentration. Seeds were collected from two locations: South Kordofan and Blue Nile State. The study consisted of seed dormancy breakage test by several methods (pretreatment with soaking in cold and hot water, corroding by 25 and 50% conc. H2SO4, and itching by electrical needle); seedling stock raising in the nursery in different soil media (Sand, clay and mixture) and field establishment of the species through direct seed sowing and seedling transplantation. The analysis of NPK and organic carbon content in the seedlings showed, no significant differences between South Kordofan and Blue Nile, also there were no significant difference between the soil media (Mixture and Sand) but the clay differed from the others in Potassium and organic carbon.

Abstract— The objective of this work is to study the compatibility of mesquite wood (Prosopis chi... more Abstract— The objective of this work is to study the compatibility of mesquite wood (Prosopis chilensis) with ordinary Portland cement and its suitability for the production of wood-cement aggregates. Determination of extractive content of mesquite wood using cold water, hot water and mild alkali extraction methods following ASTM standard, (D 1110-56) was conducted under laboratory condition using completely randomized design. Mesquite wood compatibility with ordinary Portland cement was studied by soaking in water and soaking in sodium hydroxide solution also addition of calcium chloride and addition of gypsum was investigated. The Effect of cement/wood ratios of 2:1, 3:1, 4:1 and 5:1) on the properties of mesquite wood cement aggregates was studied. The results showed that mesquite wood extractives can successfully be removed or minimized by soaking in cold water. Also the results indicated that mesquite wood can combine well with cement even without treatment. However addition of gypsum (20% based on cement weight) increased the compressive strength more than 100% when compared with the other treatments.
