Jon Stanfill
I am a scholar of religion in late antiquity, with a PhD in the History of Christianity from Fordham University (2015). My research focuses primarily on the life and works of John Chrysostom, the Christianization of the Roman Empire and its barbarian neighbors (especially the Goths), and the study of ethnicity and race in pre-modern societies. My dissertation, entitled "Embracing the Barbarian: John Chrysostom's Pastoral Care of the Goths," provides the first comprehensive study of Chrysostom’s efforts to promote the Christianization of the Goths at the dawn of the fifth century.
