This article was conceived to crave the indulgence of scholars and academics in Nigerian higher education system to the menace of cyber hijack journals, pretending to be outlets indexed in Thomson Reuters and Impact Factor Ranked Journals by SCImago. As a descriptive article, secondary data were used to identify the current list of these dubious journals and several ways of identifying them in order to avoid them for publication. The study also presented challenges of engaging in such outlets for scholarly works. Lastly, the study concluded on the best way of discouraging scholars from patronizing hijack journals.

The nature of insecurity at global level is changing rapidly. In the Cold-War era, its problem was an issue of concern among countries but, it later changed to become a major challenge within different countries in the Post-War era. The case of African societies is critical due to the emergence of non-violent conflicts which seem to have compounded the already existing violent conflicts in these countries. This article uses social theories to explain this problem in Nigeria via data from secondary source. The article among other things examines the concept of insecurity, sources of insecurity,  and theoretical approaches to insecurity, which include  traditional (Functionalism and Marxism) and contemporary theories (Elite, social structure and anomie as well as relative deprivation theories) as they relate to the problem of insecurity in contemporary Nigeria. The study concludes that none of these theories could adequately provide an extensive explanation of the phenomenon under s...

This study examined the socio-economic status of work-study students in Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria. The study used survey method (questionnaire) to collect information from 120 respondents. Findings of the study showed that a percentage change in parental income and occupation significantly increased the likelihood of student participation in work and study programme by 0.453 and 0.367 percentages. The above result is found significant at 5 percent (P<0.05) and 1 percent level of significance (P<0.001) respectively. The study concluded that a significant support of parental income and occupation played a significant role in student individual choices of whether to enroll for a work-study initiative or otherwise.

This study was conducted to examine the influence of female genital mutilation on women sexual activities in Oke-Ona community, Abeokuta North Local Government Area of Ogun-State, South-West Geopolitical Zone of Nigeria with respect to: sexual satisfaction, sexual desire and virginal penetration experience. In order to achieve its aim, the study raised three hypotheses, each on sexual satisfaction, sexual desire and virginal penetration experience. These hypotheses were tested through t-test statistical method via the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 23rd version. Results showed no positive interaction between genital mutilation and sexual satisfaction [t (109) = .560, P>.05]. It also revealed no significance in the mean difference frequency of sexual desire of genitally mutilated women compared to those not genitally mutilated [t (109) = - .640, P>.05]. Besides, the findings indicated no significant difference in the mean difference in the vaginal penetration ex...

Although, studies have shown several cases of kidnapping in both developed and developing countries but the case of a developing country like Nigeria is seems to be pathetic and worrisome, largely because of its contributions to the ancient slave trade that greatly affected several Nigerians for many centuries in the past. With such awful experiences in the past and its contribution to backwardness of the human race, one would have thought that cases of kidnapping would never occur in Nigeria, but the reverse has been the case in the contemporary. Hence, several studies have emerged on the subject of kidnapping in recent times. However, it could be observed that these studies are strongly connected with rituals power, wealth and traditional purposes. While the nature of the Nigerian society which is characterised by injustice and its contributions to the menace of kidnapping has been hitherto neglected in academic literature. The present study intends to address this flaw in knowled...

In both developed and developing societies, entrepreneurship is not only considered panacea to youth unemployment; it is regarded a vital strategy of economic growth and national development. In a developing society like Nigeria, studies have shown its importance in creating employment opportunities for the youth but such studies neglected the usefulness of Igbo business mentoring. Also, other studies have shown different strategies for starting enterprenurship but it has been observed that such studies ignored the Igbo business mentoring (nwa boy) in-spite of its reputation for raising entrepreneurs among youth in the South-East Geo-Political Zone of Nigeria. Given this, the present study, used data from secondary source to: (i) find out factors which predispose youth to engage in Igbo business mentoring (nwa boy); (ii) ascertain the differences between Igbo business mentoring (nwa boy) and other forms of apprenticeship; and (iii) investigate the contributions of the Igbo business ...

This article discussed the persistence of examination malpractice in Nigerian higher education systems in conjunction with the dysfunctionality of family and educational institutions. The study engaged information collected from a secondary source and content analysis as its methodology. Drawing from the concept of dysfunctionality as expressed by R. K. Merton, the route of the persistence of examination misconduct was traced to several factors out of which poor parenting, lack of proper upbringing in the family and corruption in educational institutions play active roles. The paper in its concluding remarks argued that if the family and education institutions could perform their expected sociological roles actively, the rate at which escalation of examination misconduct is escalating in tertiary institutions could be reduced drastically.

In Nigeria, almost every tribe has several superstitious beliefs which, tend to affect their day to day behavior. The current work investigated the relationship of such beliefs with personality traits in the southeast geopolitical zone of the country [specifically Igbo land]. The researchers used the Big 5 personality Inventory (BFPI) and the Igbo Culture Superstitious Belief Scale. The internal consistency reliability of the ICSBS ranged from .30 to .67. A total of 250 participants [94 males and 156 females, between 25 and 53 years, with the mean age of 36.99 and standard deviation 5.89] participated in the study.  Multiple regression analysis was adopted. From the above result, openness to experience (Beta = .484, t=8.15, p

This study was carried out to appraise SIWES in sixteen (16) tertiary institutions in Ogun State, Southwest Nigeria using descriptive method. Among other things, it investigated the percentage of SIWES unit in tertiary institutions in the state that has: (i) a structure; (ii) budget; (iii) coordinators’ tenure of office; and (v) a succession plan for coordinators. The study engaged a purposive sampling technique to select one participant from each institution and used descriptive statistics to analyze the data. These include frequency distribution, percentage and ranking. The study among other things concluded that 13(81.3%) tertiary institutions had SIWES structure while 03(19.7%) did not have; 5(31.2%) tertiary institutions had SIWES budget while the majority-11(68.8%) did not have; 5(31.2%) tertiary institutions had SIWES coordinators tenure of office while the majority-11(68.8%) did not have. The study also concluded that no institution (0%) had a succession plan for SIWES coord...

The concept of social change could be considered an ever-constant phenomenon in human society. This is because virtually nothing has ever remained static since the advent of man and his society. Thus, issues surrounding social change have occupied the mind of scholars for many centuries. Consequently, its applicability to social life issues has gained prominence among authors across cultures. In spite of this, however, it appears the contribution of Ibn Khaldun to social change as it relates to Christian religion has not been adequately addressed in academic and the Christian literature, mostly from tertiary institutions in Africa. This inadequacy may have prevented the enrichment of the literature on social change and the Christian religion. The present article intends to address this flaw in knowledge. It tries to compare the ideas of Western scholars on social change with that of Ibn Khaldun and highlighted similarities and differences which could be used to corroborate or negate...

The article deals with the ways of media coverage of financial and ethnic distinctions in society. Analysis is based on the comparative Russian-Swedish research of regional media. The research revealed that material divides are mostly covered through several discourses: social policies aimed at elimination of material differences, information on individual solutions for financial problems, mass media as the helpline for the underprivileged. There are penetrations of material divides issues in some relative topics but media evidently escape conflicts escalation. The audience in Russia finds the coverage of these issues unsatisfactory as it does not touch the structural material divides. The "disparity" discourse was apparent in discussions on ethnic divides and migration. Media do not present ethnic differences as inequalities and escape of mentioning them except urgent grounds; ethnic divides are either built into the overall context of material ones or placed into "u...

The problem of immorality among the youth population is of universal consequence. The youth population refers to adolescents, teenagers, young adults and working-class population. Adolescents are still in the formative years and could be positively influenced towards moral uprightness. Consequently, several authors have attempted to uncover factors associated with immorality and the possible interventions among the youth. Some of the proposed interventions include parental instructions, sermonizing, inclusion of moral instructions in the school curriculum, adverts on media networks, punishment for wrong doing, rewards for uprightness and outstanding virtues among others. However, these studies did not consider the use of modeling as an educational tool for curbing immorality among the youth. Although several policies were also formulated to ensure adolescent moral development, however, none of these policies highlighted the importance of modeling; hence the problem has continued to ...

This study investigated: (i) if a significant relationship exists between personality Type ‘A’ and examination malpractice (ii) if there is a significant relationship between personality Type ‘B’ and examination malpractice, (iii ) if socio-demographic factors
(gender, age and birth order) influence examination malpractice. The study employed correlational survey design and questionnaire to collect information. The t-test and Pearson
moment correlation statistical tools were used to test its hypotheses, while multiple regressions analysis were used to investigate which of the independent variables (personality types and socio-demographic factors) significantly predicted the dependent variable (i.e. attitude towards examination malpractice). The result reveals that personality Type ‘A’ has a significant relationship with examination malpractice (r=0.28; p< 0.05). It also indicates that the personality Type ‘B’ has a significant relationship with examination malpractice (r=0.43; p< 0.05). In respect of socio-demographic factors, the result shows that there is no significant relationship between the age and examination malpractice, (r =-0.102 and it is not significant at p> 0.05). The result also reveals correlation between gender and examination malpractice (r = 0.14 at p< 0.05).In another development, the finding show that there is no significant relationship between birth order and examination malpractice, (r = -0.029 and it is not significant at p>.005). Implications of these findings are indications that personality types ‘A’, personality Type ‘B’ and gender influence examination malpractice among students while factors such as age and birth order are not crucial in determining examination malpractice.

This study reviewed and analyzed the extroversion-introversion characteristics of teachers and students as well as the implications of interface issues on architectural design studio outcomes. The study engaged a structured questionnaire to collect information from a sample of 546 respondents (both students and staff-teachers/mentors). The study found a difference in design approach of students who preferred acting first before thinking and reflection across selected schools of architecture. It also found a difference in the design outcomes of students who are usually open and motivated by outside world in the selected schools. Moreover, the study discovered a difference in design approach of students who enjoy wide variety and changing relationship in the selected schools. It recommended that the synergy of polar characteristic differences of the students be better engaged by the design 32 studio teachers during training in school to prepare for professional competency in practice.

This study examined the socio-demographic characteristics of widows in Awori two urban and two rural communities of Awori land in Ogun State, Nigeria and the observance of widowhood rites. It utilized a survey questionnaire containing open and closed ended questions to elicit information from 912 respondents. The linear regression was used in testing the hypothesis formulated for the study, in addition to cross-tabulations and simple percentages. The critical variables in the hypothesis are ten (10) indices which helped to measure the socio-demographic attributes of the widows sampled. The indices are: age, education, income, occupation, number of children, sex of children, religion, type of marriage, form of marriage and place of residence). The purpose was to determine which of these indicators had the most effect on the widowhood practices outcomes. The results revealed no relationships between the dependent and independent variables in the first model except for education and type of marriage which were found to be significantly related to widowhood rites. In the second model, widows' education and occupation were both positively related to property inheritance and statistically significant. Finally, the study presented conclusion and recommendations on the basis of the findings.
