Scholarly digital edition (DSE) projects of the last few years have enhanced the role of the digital facsimile as a standard and necessary part of the edition. This is the result of a well-known discussion, which started with the questioning of traditional editorial theory and practice and led to the need to reassess the material and historical dimension of texts. In the meanwhile, big GLAMs’ digitization projects produced a proliferation of primary sources and the first attempts to exploit the digital facsimile in DSEs saw daylight. Manuscript surrogates can be integrated in different ways in edition projects: often handled as merely ‘accessory’ materials, they generally function as ‘additional’, i.e. enriching, components of the DSEs. Although most editions are still text-centred, in few but very remarkable cases digital images can become a truly ‘constitutive’ part of a project. Tracing back the history of Ovid\u2019s reception in the Middle Ages cannot disregard the German medieval literary tradition. Ovidian traces can be found in several Middle High German works, mostly in the form of allusions, images, and references. Germany also has produced the first presumably complete translation of Ovid\u2019s Metamorphoses , which was composed at the time of the Landgrave Hermann I of Thuringia by a Saxon cleric, Albrecht von Halberstadt. Except for some fragments belonging to an Oldenburg XIII century manuscript we can read Albrecht\u2019s Metamorphoses only thanks to J\uf6rg Wickram\u2019s early modern German adaptation (1545). This analysis will focus on the myth of the music contest between Apollo and Pan and the metamorphosis of king Midas, who was condemned to have donkey\u2019s ears as a punishment for having questioned Tmolus\u2019s verdict. The narration is handed down in fragment B (Berlin, Staatsbibliothek, mgf 831) and offers a good test-bed for analysing Albrecht\u2019s choices in dealing with a subject which, by content, does not offer any easy handhold for cultural adaptation. This article investigates an aspect of the creative contribution of Ovid to the formation of Old Norse literature. The analysis explores the author\u2019s influence on Old Icelandic literature, to see whether and how his work was absorbed in non-continental Europe during the Middle Ages. Two main examples will be taken into account: the first is derived from a medieval saga, the J\uf3ns saga helga; the second from two heroic lays of the Poetic Edda, the Atlaqvi\uf0a and the Atlam\ue1l

Digital scholarly editing is a relatively new field within philology and textual criticism, where several issues are still under discussion. A major concern is which perspective on the text is more favoured by the digital and why. While some scholars claim that the creation of a critical text is an activity still worth pursuing, now as in the past, others believe that digital editing has shifted the philological focus from text reconstruction to a documentary approach. The analysis will focus on two edition projects of German literary texts dating back to the Middle Ages, with specific regard to constitutio textus. How do editors actually handle multiple traditions in the digital environment? To what extent is the reconstruction of the critical text a procedure pursued within digital scholarly editing? Based on the evidence, what kind of critical endeavour is fostered within the digital medium

Riassunto: Questo studio si pone come una riflessione filologico-letteraria sul lascito di Caritas Pirckeimer (1467-1532), che fu badessa presso l’ordine delle Clarisse di Norimberga, una delle prime citta ad accettare la Riforma a seguito dei cosiddetti Religionsgesprache : il luteranesimo impose la secolarizzazione dei conventi, l’uso del tedesco nei riti ecclesiastici e l’invalidamento dei voti religiosi. Di fronte a questo Caritas reagisce grazie alla sua profonda conoscenza e al potere conferitole dal ruolo che ricopriva: tra i suoi interlocutori si annoverano umanisti, teologi e rappresentanti dell’amministrazione civica, con cui intrattiene scambi epistolari tanto su complesse questioni teologiche, come i sola del luteranesimo, quanto su questioni pratiche che riguardano le conseguenze della nuova fede sulla vita quotidiana delle comunita religiose.
