Background: Saudi Arabia is lagging behind developed countries in devising specific real projects... more Background: Saudi Arabia is lagging behind developed countries in devising specific real projects, roadmaps, and policies for the Internet of Things (IoT) and big data adoption despite having a vision for providing the best-quality health care services to its citizens. As a result, Saudi Arabia is going to host an event for the third time, in 2020, promoting the widescale adoption of the IoT. While a nationwide study has identified the risk that many participants were previously undiagnosed for hypertension and other chronic diseases in Saudi Arabia, the application of the IoT and big data technologies could be very useful in minimizing such risks by predicting chronic disease earlier, and on a large scale. Materials and Methods: A framework that consists of four modules, (1) data collection, (2) data storage, (3) Hadoop/Spark cluster, and (4) Google Cloud, was developed in which decision tree and support vector machine (SVM) techniques were used for predicting hypertension. There were 140 participants in total and 20% of participants were used for training the model. Results: The results show that age and diabetes play a very significant part in diagnosing hypertension in older people. Also, it was found that the possibility of hypertension because of smoking is less than that of diabetes, and older people should have a lower intake of salty food. Moreover, it was found that SVM techniques yielded better results than C4.5 in our study. Conclusions: Although it was found that the algorithms examined in this study can be used for disease prediction, the ability to classify and predict disease is not yet sufficiently satisfactory. To achieve this, more training data and a longer duration are required. Finally, by supporting such study for developing custom-made smart wristbands, custom-made smart clothing, and custom-made smart homes that can predict and detect a wide range of chronic diseases, the Saudi government can achieve its health-related goals of Vision 2030.

This chapter aimed to determine the factors of e-health accepting behavior among the physicians o... more This chapter aimed to determine the factors of e-health accepting behavior among the physicians of developing countries. A cross-sectional survey questionnaire method was used for collecting data of this study. To analyze the data the study used structural equation modeling (SEM) with the partial least square (PLS) approach. The findings suggested that performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, and personal innovativeness had a significant impact on the behavioral intention to use e-health and also the behavioral intention had a significant impact on the actual use behavior of e-health of the physicians. Facilitating conditions had neither a significant impact on behavioral intention nor the actual use behavior of e-health of the physicians. The findings of this study would facilitate the degree of more acceptance of e-health technologies by the physicians for their own betterment and a new chapter of knowledge in the research area.

Design/methodology/approach This study advances the body of knowledge on OGD by proposing an integrated research model based on transparency, accountability, participation and collaboration dimensions. The research model was empirically tested using 275 responses using the on-paper survey from the university students and professionals in Bangladesh. Data were analyzed using the structured equation modeling technique. Findings Findings revealed that transparency and participation have a positive and significant direct and indirect influence on citizen empowerment through accountability and collaboration. The knowledge required for diabetes prevention and management among the rural people in developin... more The knowledge required for diabetes prevention and management among the rural people in developing countries vastly remains in the state of non-existence. To address this, a diabetic knowledge sharing platform, as an effective means for diabetes prevention, control, and treatment, can play role in increasing diabetes awareness and literacy. Currently researchers have emphasized the scope of peer-led learning by knowledge sharing on social media platforms in healthcare context. Therefore, by identifying this scope, we have prototyped a mobile app integrated with social media features to enable diabetic patients for cost-effective peer-led learning, knowledge sharing, and awareness building. In this process, we resorted to follow the cycles and guidelines as proposed in the Information System Research (ISR) framework for identifying users\u27 needs and preferences as well as building the theoretical foundation for the design of an app. This study demonstrates that the users had positive response and well acceptance to this prototype app as a medium for peer-led for diabetes management. A systematic search of renowned databases was conducted to find studies related to mobile health applications published between a period of 2013 and 2018. After a methodological screening, a total of 31 studies were included for data extraction and synthesis. The mobile health Evidence Reporting and Assessment checklist developed by the World Health Organization was then used to evaluate the rigor and completeness in evidence reporting. In 2000, the Saudi government established a committee for health reform to develop an information technology strategic plan for healthcare and for deploying e-health applications within the country. The objective of e-health systems was to provide better healthcare to patients and to increase the efficiency of healthcare organizations. Despite numerous e-health interventions to provide healthcare services, very little is studied about the adoption process of e-health from users' viewpoints in Saudi Arabia. This study minimizes this knowledge gap by studying the factors affecting the adoption and acceptance of e-health in the context of Saudi Arabia. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study has combined the Technology Acceptance Model and Theory of Planned Behavior frameworks to evaluate the factors influencing the patient acceptance of e-health services in Saudi Arabia. Data were collected from patients at various private and public hospitals in Saudi Arabia. The partial least square technique based on structural equation modeling was applied to analyze the survey data. RESULTS The study shows the significant influence of perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use on the attitude. Furthermore, attitude and subjective norm (p < 0.05) significantly influence patient behavioral intention (BI) to use e-health services. However, perceived behavioral control (p > 0.05) had no significant influence on patient BI to use e-health services. CONCLUSIONS The findings of this study might be useful to policymakers, the government, and healthcare service providers in Saudi Arabia and other developing countries.
