Considering historical implications, politics, sociology and techniques induce the retention of architecture that expired in the mass media group, however which, in the well-known heterodirect world, have had the assigment of transmitting messages. It's in this communication aspects that critical culture can intervene in a corrective way. Thus, it's necessary to react to the significances of architecture, in order to resolve its semantic crisis and to give new life to its instrumental and subordinate role. The concluding chapters of the book are dedicated to the new indications of semiology, which show us how we can operate in that way.

But it was the author of this essay that gave the first reading on semiology applied to furniture design and to document the production of Le Corbusier in the environment of his time.

The text calls into question the concept of the proposed General Plan replaced the so-called "City Mosaic"; reiterates the distinction between "center" and "old town", assuming the latter as a central subject of the whole essay. For the renovation and innovation of Neapolis greek-roman propose two initiatives: the mass in light of all the archaeological and, as a function primarily of the ancient quarter, creating in it a citadel of studies to complement the functions crafts , tertiary and residential buildings currently exist. The theoretical framework of the book is accompanied by an indication of the project: leave unchanged the Hippodamus network of roads and the creation of large courtyards (the cloisters lay to distinguish them from those made in the past by religious orders) within that network, solving even the old-new relationship with the creation of a new type of building.

In this essay short and concise, these principles are identified and described in the clearest way possible, or within the reach of everyone, from university professor to the student, by the professional engineer construction site, from the historic to the letters. The theories serve not only par give greater cultural dignity to the discipline, but also for the purposes of strictly practical, because without theory is not realized any practice, especially in a time of uncertainty and confusion as the current one. Usually each from these principles is dedicated a monographic essay, here. on the contrary, are studied and exhibited together in order to allow differences and comparisons, the result is a theoretical-practical manual suitable to be consulted per-item or read in its entirety. In short, the author's objective is to give the most information in the shortest number of pages and especially to contribute to the formation of a general idea of architecture.
