Andrew Hudson-Smith Supervisor Date 2009 Licensed Architect (Ordine degli architetti di Milano) WORK AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCES Educated in architecture (BS and MS Politecnico di Milano), since 2006 I developed a research track, collaborating within the Urb&Com Lab., DAStU, PoliMI. I focused on trends, processes and impacts related with services, retail and leisure settlement. Between 2006 and 2009 I had the opportunity to match academic researches and activities as technic consultant, supporting a set of Italian public bodies (Regione Lombardia, Piemonte and Emila-Romagna, Prov. and Comune di Milano, etc.). In 2010, I started a PhD within the Instituto Universitario de Urbanistica (IUU) de la Universidad de Valladolid (E), financed with a FPI UVa-Banco Santander Fellowship (2010-2014). During this period, collaborating with my supervisor (Prof J.L. de las Rivas) and the research team of CASA-University College of London (UK), I elaborated a personal approach to the advanced spatial analysis. I had the opportunity to test his approach studying real spaces within my PhD thesis and several researches related with the activities of IUU. Also in this case, I interacted with several public actors -often working in multidisciplinary teams- producing technical documents useful for decision-making processes. Once completed my PhD, I achieved a position as Contract Professor in Urban Planning in Scuola Architettura, Urbanistica ed Ingegneria delle Costruzioni of PoliMI and I relaunched my collaboration with DAStU department, working with Prof. A. Balducci, B. Bonfantini, P. Pucci, P. Beria, L. Tamini, etc. Meanwhile, I was in charge to support the activities of several visiting professors during their stays (as Prof. A. Madanipour, J. Knieling and D. Radovic) at PoliMI. In 2015-2016 I straightened my profile as consultant for public bodies and policy-makers, promoting several proposals for EU actions and researches and supporting several decision-making processes. Since April 2016, I was awarded as PostDoc PoliMI International Fellowship (2016-2018) and I focused on the research program entitled “Clusters of central functions (or CCFs) as catalyst in post-metropolitan territories: comparing impacts of their dynamics in four European cityregions”. Moreover, I contribute to academic debate on alternative centralities with a solid approach based on quantitative methods and original representations of space. At the same time, I support the innovation of approaches to spatial governance of public actors, at different scales and in this field, I was involved in 2018/2019 in a research program entitled “La governance dei progetti di Città Metropolitana di Milano.
