O objetivo deste artigo e realizar uma comparacao entre duas revistas ilustradas que tiveram vida... more O objetivo deste artigo e realizar uma comparacao entre duas revistas ilustradas que tiveram vida efemera na decada de 1930 em seus respectivos paises: a revista S.Paulo, (Brasil 1935/1936), em contraponto com revista a Rotofoto (Mexico 1938). Busca-se examinar em especial como, entre os dois paises, se constituiram temas comuns, que contribuiram para a construcao do imaginario politico latino-americano. Parte-se da hipotese de que apesar das as dificuldades de contatos mexicanos e brasileiros devido a diferenca linguistica, distância e falta de um contato maior entre seus intelectuais, ocorreram intercâmbios de propostas politicas e culturais principalmente entre redes de sociabilidade de artistas e intelectuais. A comparacao entre as duas revistas se insere dentro dessa problematica mais ampla. Ambas as revistas se apresentam como plataformas privilegiadas para o estudo comparado das sociedas mexicanas e brasileiras e de suas respectivas culturas visuais. Desse modo, o objetivo e flagrar como duas revistas culturais, que utilizaram amplamente a fotografia como elementos centrais de seu projeto grafico, veicularam em suas paginas o momento politico dos dois paises.

The aim of this article is to compare two illustrated magazines that had a short life in the 1930... more The aim of this article is to compare two illustrated magazines that had a short life in the 1930s in their respective countries: S.Paulo (Brazil 1935/1936), and, as a counterpoint, Rotofoto (Mexico 1938). I seek to examine, in particular, how common themes between the two countries were constituted, contributing to the construction of a Latin American political imaginary. From the hypothesis that -despite the difficult contacts between Mexico and Brazil due to language differences, distance, and lack of exchanges between their intellectuals- there were exchanges of political and cultural policies, mainly among social networks of artists and intellectuals. The comparison between the two magazines is included in this broader reflection. Both magazines present privileged platforms for a comparative study of the two countries and the visual culture established in the two societies. My goal is to show how these two cultural magazines have widely used photography as the core elements of their graphic design, while transmitting in their pages the political situation in both countries.

Cet article porte sur la Revue mexicaine « Frente a Frente », qui fut publiée de 1934 à 1937, par... more Cet article porte sur la Revue mexicaine « Frente a Frente », qui fut publiée de 1934 à 1937, par la LEAR, Liga de Escritores y Artistas Revolucionarios (1933-1938). L’analyse est centrée sur la conception visuelle et l’engagement d’un magazine dans toute la complexité de ses propositions, révélant les diverses tensions entre culture prolétarienne, réalisme socialiste et avant-gardisme. Nous nous sommes aussi intéressés à la circulation des photographies de l’avant-garde, entre l’Europe et le Mexique dans la période entre les deux guerres. Enfin, nous avons accordé une attention particulière à l’utilisation de photographies et de photomontages au sein de cette expérience éditoriale.

The paper is divided in three parts in which the authors describe, in a chronological order, core books published during the 20th century by Mexican and foreigners scholars, that have as subject the exposition of the Mexican revolutionary process, as well, books and articles that reviewed the theoretical postulates on the subjects. As a general conclusion we consider that the main point of discussion between scholars was, and is, the agrarian features of the Revolution and the post-revolutionary governments social agenda.

Trato de contestar a algunas preguntas tales como ¿cómo se ha estudiado la fotografía hecha en América latina? ¿Cuáles son los parámetros conceptuales? ¿Cómo se desarrolló una historiografía de la fotografía en Latinoamérica? Por último, quiero saber si existen perspectivas distintas entre la visión metropolitana -europea y norteamericana- y la latinoamericana.
