PUBLIC SERVICE:
I have been a volunteer for the American Red Cross for 20 years, including multiple
deployments for regional and national disasters, including hurricanes, fires, ice storms,
floods, Hurricane Katrina, and the 9/11 disaster. I am an advanced disaster instructor
and have given over 30 Red Cross disaster services courses. I was a local Disaster
Action Team Captain for 7 years, responding to local house fires and incidents on call,
and was a member of the Board for the Orange County, NC chapter for 3 years. My
current primary work is as a government liaison officer, working at federal, state, and
local Emergency Operations Centers to coordinate the disaster response.
I also volunteer for the URISA GIS Corps, which provides remote geomatics support for
international disasters, including working remotely for disasters in Myanmar and
Australia.
