The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigating solutions as well as the... more The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigating solutions as well as their combination and activation modes on root canal dentin microhardness. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO and PRISMA guidelines were followed. The structured question was as follows: “Which type of irrigating solution used in endodontic treatment causes more change in dentin microhardness?” The literature was screened via PubMed, Google Scholar, Scopus, and Science Direct. The last search was carried out in February 2023 with English language restriction. Two reviewers independently performed screening and evaluation of articles. A total of 470 articles were retrieved from all the databases, whereas only 114 articles were selected for full-text analysis. After applying eligibility criteria, 44 studies were evaluated and included in this review. The results showed that with increased contact time with irrigants, dentin microhardness decreases. Increased contact time with sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) was associated with more reduction in dentin microhardness compared with other irrigants. Other irrigants, with the exception of distilled water, including EDTA, citric acid, herbal irrigants, glycolic acid, phytic acid, etc., in this study significantly decreased dentin microhardness. The maximum reduction in dentin microhardness was seen with 2.5% NaOCl after 15 min of contact time. The use of irrigating solutions alters the chemical composition of dentin, thereby decreasing its microhardness, which affects the clinical performance of endodontically treated teeth.

Bruxism is a repetitive activity of the masticatory muscles characterized by clenching or grindin... more Bruxism is a repetitive activity of the masticatory muscles characterized by clenching or grinding teeth and/or mandibular stiffening. Bruxism manifests itself in two forms: during sleeping and waking. The etiology of bruxism is multifactorial. The treatment of bruxism is mainly based on making the patient aware of the presence of the condition. The aim of the study was to assess knowledge on the causes and the effects of bruxism among Polish students as well as the possible management. Materials and methods: The anonymous online survey was conducted among students (aged between 18 and 25 years old) of universities across Poland, using the Google Forms platform. The survey contained questions concerning bruxism causes, effects and therapies. All variants of answers in these questions contained true information about bruxism. Results: The study found significant differences in awareness of bruxism among genders in favor of females. The awareness of bruxism among population residing in cities and in villages was comparable (p > 0.05). However, the results should be taken with care due to limited number of students that participated in the study and uneven gender distribution among urban and village residents. Conclusions: Within the limitations of the study it can be concluded that the knowledge of bruxism among Polish students is higher in comparison with the findings from the literature, as well as the superiority of women's awareness of bruxism over men. Future studies should be conducted on greater student population, with even distribution of participants among country areas and variety of universities. Significance: The findings may indicate the need for further education of male young adults, on bruxism causes, possible effects and therapies to increase their awareness of bruxism and encourage early diagnosis and treatment.

Zarówno stomatolodzy, jak i pacjenci oczekują estetycznych oraz trwałych wypełnień i rekonstrukcji protetycznych. Drobnoustroje kariogenne, pozostawione w ubytku, mogą przyczynić się do powstania próchnicy wtórnej, a w konsekwencji wymiany uzupełnienia. Zastosowanie środków o działaniu dezynfekcyjnym w fazie przygotowywania ubytku do wypełnienia materiałami kompozytowymi pozwala na uniknięcie tego powikłania.
Cel pracy. Ocena własności przeciwbakteryjnych wybranych systemów wiążących VI generacji.
Materiał i metody. W badaniach oceniono właściwości przeciwbakteryjne następujących systemów wiążących: Clearfill SE Bond®, Clearfill Protect Bond®, AdheSE®, Xeno III®, Adper Prompt L-Pop®, Adper Prompt®, Silorane System Adhesive®. Grupę kontrolną stanowił 0,2% roztwór chlorheksydyny. Właściwości przeciwbakteryjne badano metodą dyfuzyjno-krążkową wobec Streptococcus mutans.
Wyniki. Zaobserwowano znaczące różnice w właściwościach przeciwbakteryjnych badanych systemów wiążących. Najlepsze właściwości przeciwbakteryjne stwierdzono w przypadku systemu wiążącego Adper Prompt L-Pop®, najmniejsze natomiast dla Silorane System Adhesive®.
Wnioski. 0,2% roztwór chlorheksydyny wykazuje lepsze właściwości przeciwbakteryjne wobec Streptococcus mutans niż wszystkie oceniane systemy wiążące VI generacji. Spośród ocenianych systemów wiążących najlepsze właściwości przeciwbakteryjne wykazują: Adper Prompt L-Pop®, Clearfill SE Bond® i Clearfill Protect Bond®, nieco

The clinical parameters recorded were plaque index (PI), gingival index (GI), relative attachment loss (RAL), probing pocket depth (PPD), and bleeding on probing (BOP). They were assessed at baseline, one month, and three months post therapy. The results indicated that there was a significant improvement in clinical parameters (p < 0.05) in the test sites compared with the control sites at the end of the study. The gingival index at one month and three months was found to be significantly better in the SRP + PRO group than the SRP + Saline group, with a p value of <0.001. The BOP, PPD, and RAL showed significant improvement with the SRP + PRO group at the end of the 3-month follow-up with p values of 0.0001, 0.001, and 0.05, respectively. The subgingival delivery of propolis nanoparticles showed promising results as an adjunct to SRP in patients with periodontitis presenting periodontal pockets.

The objective of the study was to utilize fractal dimension (FD) to evaluate cancellous patterns of interproximal alveolar bone using a digital intraoral periapical radiograph (IOPAR) in different clinical presentations of periodontitis classified according to the latest classification by the World Workshop for Periodontal and Peri-Implant Diseases and Conditions, 2017 (WWDC, 2017). The study aimed to numerically calculate the periodontitis changes in the cancellous bone around the affected tooth on an IOPAR using fractal analysis and to provide an additional criterion for the staging of periodontitis. In this cross-sectional observational study, 75 patients were selected and equally allotted to five groups based on the staging system proposed by the WWDC, 2017. The region of interest was selected on the IOPA radiograph of the tooth with the site having the most significant clinical attachment loss, and FD was calculated using Image J analysis. The association of gender and age with stages of periodontitis was studied using the chi-square test of independence. A comparison of % bone loss and fractal dimension among stages was studied by using the non-parametric Kruskal Wallis test. The relationship between % bone loss and fractal dimension within stages and gender was studied by using the Karl Pearson correlation. A receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed for FD value as a marker of periodontitis patients. We demonstrated that the FD values decreased significantly with the increase in stages (p < 0.0001). The overall relationship between % bone loss and FD showed a significantly strong negative correlation of −0.739 (p < 0.0001), except for stages III and IV. FD can be utilized as a quantitative method for detecting cancellous bone changes in different stages of periodontitis, aiding in diagnosing periodontitis.

The objective of the study was to compare the expression of immunohistochemical (IHC) markers of ... more The objective of the study was to compare the expression of immunohistochemical (IHC) markers of oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) (non-transformed group) to those of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) transformed from OSMF (transformed group). The search for comparative cross-sectional studies was carried out in PubMed and Scopus abiding to the PICO criteria, where expression of IHC markers in OSMF were compared with that of OSCC transformed from OSMF. The cellular distribution, number of positive cases, staining intensity, and mean immunoreactive score (IRS) of each IHC marker were evaluated in both groups. A total of 14 studies were included in the systematic review, in which immunoexpression of 15 epithelial and 4 connective tissue biomarkers were evaluated. Expression of β1-integrin, OCT-3, CD1a, CD207, survivin, Dickkopf-1, COX-2, hTERT, CTGF, MDM2, Ki-67, and α-SMA were increased during transformation of OSMF to OSCC. Conversely, expression of PTEN and lysyl oxidase decreased during transformation of OSMF to OSCC. Expression of a group of epithelial markers, such as COX2, hTERT, CTGF, survivin, MDM2, and p53, was 38 times lower in the non-transformed group cases compared to transformed group cases (95% CI: 58% to 10%; p = 0.01; and I2 = 90%). Meta-analysis of all markers involved in cell metabolism/apoptosis, which included β1-integrin along with the above markers also suggested 42 times lower expression in the non-transformed group as compared to the transformed group (95% CI: 58% to 10%; p = 0.01; and I2 = 90%). Sub-group analyses on cytoplasmic and nuclear epithelial markers were inconclusive. Meta-analysis of connective tissue markers was also inconclusive. No publication bias was found. Instead of delving into numerous markers without a strong basis for their use, it is advisable to further study the markers identified in this study to explore their clinical utility.

Meta-analysis indicated that the bond strength achieved with self-etching adhesive systems remained consistent, regardless of the CMCR agent (Carisolv or Papacarie) used on dentin. The findings of this systematic review suggest that self-etch adhesive systems show favorable bond strength to caries-affected dentin following chemomechanical caries removal, regardless of the specific CMCR agent used. These results support the use of minimally invasive dentistry techniques aimed at preserving healthy tooth structure, dentin in particular.

Advanced tumor staging and grading, lymph node metastasis, and mortality were significantly associated with positive immunoexpression of CSC markers.

Nystatin and photodynamic therapy were found to be equally effective for the clinical remission of denture stomatitis as well as a significant reduction of CFU/mL of Candida species from dentures and palatal surfaces of the patients.

The aim of the study is to analyze the surface characteristics by the determination of the roughness parameters of three dental ceramics used in computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technique: lithium disilicate (LS2), zirconium oxide-reinforced lithium silicate (ZLS), and zirconium oxide (ZrO2), prepared using two different processing techniques, polishing (self-glaze) and glazing with three different glazes. Both glass ceramics, pre-crystallized LS2 and crystallized ZLS, were cut into disks, and the surface was ground and polished.
