ACADEMIC SUPPORT
Academic Advising:
ACSA provides individualized academic support to all student-athletes to assist in their growth and development so they may reach their full potential. Each student-athlete is assigned a faculty advisor within their major department, who serves as their primary advisor, and an ACSA advisor. ACSA advisors work in conjunction with faculty advisors to ensure student-athletes are progressing towards their degree program and are on track to graduate. ACSA advisors provide advising on general education and major requirements, assist in course selection and inform student-athletes of NCAA eligibility requirements.
All incoming student-athletes, including freshmen and undergraduate transfers, as well as returning student-athletes who are identified as needing additional academic support will meet with their ACSA advisor on a weekly basis to review their academic progress.
Providing Academic Accountability and Community (PAAC) Program:
The PAAC program provides student-athletes with assistance in developing academic skills including time management, study techniques, test taking strategies as well as note taking and writing skills. Students will meet with the Learning Specialist on a weekly basis on the individual areas in which they need improvement.
Study Hall:
The study hall program offers a comfortable learning environment for all student-athletes within the Academic Center for Student-Athletes. The facility has study carrels, 6 private rooms, a computer lab and a team study hall room along with printing services.
All incoming student-athletes, including freshmen and undergraduate transfers, as well as returning student-athletes who are identified as needing additional academic support are required to complete weekly hours in the Academic Center for Student-Athletes.
Academic Monitoring:
ACSA regularly monitors the academic progress of all student-athletes throughout the semester. ACSA advisors are in contact with instructors through early alert reports, email and phone class to discuss academic concerns.
Travel Letters:
Student-athletes are provided with travel letters to distribute to their instructors during the first week of classes each semester during their competition season. Student-athletes must meet with their instructors to review the travel letter and ask them to sign a copy to return to ACSA. Students are reminded to notify their instructors prior to each absence. If there are conflicts with absences or missed assignments, please notify your ACSA advisor.
