One of the advantages of using immobilized cells in fermentative processes is the facility of cell separation from t he culture medium. The changes that immobilization causes in cell growth o r in cell metabolic activity are unpredictable. As cell immobilization support, the calcium alginate is largely use. The magnetic supports are distinguished by their use in magnetically stabilized fluidized bed reacto rs, a configuration that allows great operational flexibility. Therefore, th is work has as main objective the cell immobilization by imprisonment i calcium alginate of yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with magnetite magnetic nanoparticles. After the magnetite synthesis, the nanoscale of the particles synthesized was determined by transmission electron microscopy. For the cell immobilization step it was prepared 10 mL of sodium alginate solution and then the magnetic particles and Saccharomyces cerevisiae were added.
