Education helps individuals fulfill and apply their abilities and talents and increases productivity in an economy. Dropping out of school at the basic level is a serious educational and social problem especially in the rural areas which is worth investigating. The study adopts a descriptive research design and employed quantitative research method. The sample size is a total of 50 households which were selected using systematic sampling technique. The study finds that the number of dropouts per community is relatively enormous. The total number of dropouts is 93 and this represent 55.4% of the number of children enrolled in school. The prominent factors identified to influence dropouts in this study, include poverty, low level of parental education, long distances to school and corporal punishment. The phenomenon of dropping out of school has serious socioeconomic implications such as unemployment and its related social vices, increased dependency ratio and child marriages in the rural areas. Holistic efforts of all stakeholders including the Ghana Education Service and school authorities, the parents and the students themselves should be involved in seeking solutions to dropouts.

Access to credit and financial services of sections of the societies in low-income developing countries has led to the proliferation of genuine and fraudulent microfinance institutions in recent times and this has been the subject of intense interest by researchers. This study explores the sociological and psychological factors that influence investment decisions of individuals with microfinance institutions to maximize their economic wellbeing in spite of the high incidence of atrophy of such institutions and fraud. This is an exploratory research which adopted a descriptive-analytic approach in the analysis. Economic growth has traditionally been attributed to the accumulation of human and physical capital and the increased productivity arising from technological innovation. The quest to attract physical capital led to the design and implementation of policies and the building of institutions by governments of developing countries to create a congenial investment environment to attract foreign investors. The multinational corporations operating in these developing countries take advantage of these policies to profit from these countries in terms of capital through both legal and fraudulent activities. In 2009, Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows to developed countries experienced the largest decline among all regions and sub-regions. However, South, East and Southeast Asia showed the smallest decline among developing economies and remained the largest recipient of FDI inflows. Meanwhile, approximately 68% of the countries in Asia scored less than the tolerable level of corruption for investment (TLCI) in Africa (-0.27) over recent years. Moreover, corruption has been observed to be significant in virtually all Asian countries, but, despite this, the region remains the number one global investment destination.
