Over the past 20 years, professional HCI programs at the Master's level have emerged and evolved at a number of universities, providing academic training to future HCI practitioners. Demand for these programs by students and demand for graduates by industry has increased considerably. In this SIG, representatives from such programs, current students, alumni, and representatives from hiring companies will discuss emerging trends, tools and technologies that will influence the future structure of these programs. Industry attendees will identify how current programs meet their needs and identify where gaps exist. Attendees will also consider ways to build a community of support for those involved in delivering HCI education at the Master's level.

Objectives:This study was designed to document the state of open access (OA) in the biomedical field in 2005.Methods:PubMed was used to collect bibliographic data on target articles published in 2005. PubMed, Google Scholar, Google, and OAIster were then used to establish the availability of free full text online for these publications. Articles were analyzed by type of OA, country, type of article, impact factor, publisher, and publishing model to provide insight into the current state of OA.Results:Twenty-seven percent of all the articles were accessible as OA articles. More than 70% of the OA articles were provided through journal websites. Mid-rank commercial publishers often provided OA articles in OA journals, while society publishers tended to provide OA articles in the context of a traditional subscription model. The rate of OA articles available from the websites of individual authors or in institutional repositories was quite low.Discussion/Conclusions:In 2005, OA in the biomedical field was achieved under an umbrella of existing scholarly communication systems. Typically, OA articles were published as part of subscription journals published by scholarly societies. OA journals published by BioMed Central contributed to a small portion of all OA articles.

Data sharing, which is hot issues in scholarly communication, is regarded as generating big data from little data in little science. In this article, a conceptual framework for research support platform in university is proposed, by the survey of two cases of representative and subject-based data archives in Japan; Data Integration and Analysis System Program (DIAS) and Inter-university Upper atmosphere Global Observation Network (IUGONET).

Reference service is one of the significant user support services in libraries, and in the service, the librarian provides appropriate information to a user's needs. Studies of a social question and answer (Q&A) site revealed preferences held by users for an answer in terms of subject relevance or prediction. In order to provide a higher quality service, we investigated users' preferences for answers given in libraries. To understand what users prefer for answers, we defined four "answer forms" from the perspectives of the "amount of information" and "whether it includes any explanations of information resources or not." Respondents ranked four answers, which were developed from the answer forms in response to reference questions. Background Discussing social inclusion and exclusion in information behavior research and practice would imply focusing on the social context of users. With regard to the theme of inclusion and exclusion in information behavior research and practice, we chose to focus on specific groups of people and contexts, such as immigrants, economically disadvantaged persons, and victims of disasters, among others. For example, by studying the information needs and information search behaviors of immigrants, who belong to a particular social context, their social exclusion, followed by their social inclusion, was clarified besides developing an understanding of how public libraries can contribute to their social inclusion. Introduction: This study clarifies the trends observed in open access (OA) in the biomedical field between 2006 and 2010, and explores the possible explanations for the differences in OA rates revealed in recent surveys. Introduction. This paper is the first report of a research project on the effects of information service to business in Japanese public libraries. The overall goals of the project are to develop a conceptual framework for understanding effects of a library service and then to examine them in business information service. The objective of this first report is to get an overview of current practice of business information service in Japanese public libraries and examine images of users and uses by librarians in charge. Method. The project consists of three stages. At the first stage a series of field trips was conducted with semi-structured interviews in 22 libraries all over Japan and a focused group interview of librarians in charge of the service was also conducted (not reported here).
