This article reports the findings related to the beliefs of professors-researchers about collabor... more This article reports the findings related to the beliefs of professors-researchers about collaborative work in research in the area of foreign language teaching at the Autonomous University of Baja California. It was identified and analyzed in a research of greater magnitude, targeted at studying the factors that favor and/or inhibit the development of research in foreign languages in three Mexican universities in order to favor its institutional development. The study is quantitative-descriptive based on a questionnaire, which identified that professors believe that collaborative research furthers the amount and quality of academic production, as well as professional development in an environment that in spite of considering this type of work it fails to offer suitable conditions for this activity to flourish.

The paper deals with the lexicological basis for the creation of a dictionary to be used by pedag... more The paper deals with the lexicological basis for the creation of a dictionary to be used by pedagogical staff in the management of the educational process. These starting points respect the results of implemented qualitative semantics as well as the analysis of teachers' educational needs. Actually, the individual words should provide a better understanding of the educational reality. Due to current curricular reform, the lexicon used in pedagogical practice is characterized by variability and sometimes terminological inconsistency. It is, therefore, important to use relevant theoretical and empirical data to create a glossary aimed at managing the educational process. At the same time, the study provides practical experience with the creation of a dictionary and with the possibilities of its use in practice by pedagogical staff in support of their self-development and improvement of the educational process as a whole.

This paper explores teacher beliefs about literacy among teachers in a Faculty of Languages in a ... more This paper explores teacher beliefs about literacy among teachers in a Faculty of Languages in a large public university in northern Mexico. The research project forms the part of the macro project of the research network “Red de Investigadores en Lenguas Extranjeras”, which analyzes issues in foreign language research in Mexico. For the first part of the project, we describe how participating university professors perceive their role as promoters of literacy and we discuss the implication that this responsibility may bear. A questionnaire designed to elicit the data replicates the methodological proposal of Cross (2011) in its quantitative phase. The paper starts with the delineation of the conceptual framework of extended literacy as understood in the context of The New Literacy Studies (Gee, 1999; Barton &Hamilton, 2000; Street, 2004, Zavala, 2009; Ames, 2002), followed by an analysis of the survey data. Findings show areas of both consensus and divergence in teachers’ perceptions of literacy and its implications for the teaching process.

This paper analyzes changes in students' beliefs on language learning in a Mexican public univers... more This paper analyzes changes in students' beliefs on language learning in a Mexican public university BA in Language Teaching. The study monitors the beliefs held by students in an initial stage, when they enter the educational program to the final stage of a four-year program, by implementing the instrument BALLI (Beliefs About Language Learning Inventory), developed by Horwitz (1985, 1987, and 1988). Although considerable amount of research has been conducted about language learners and language teachers' beliefs, there are few studies that monitor the changes in beliefs over a longer period of time. Moreover, the results of current studies in the ESL (English as a Second Language) or EFL (English as a Foreign Language) field are rather inconclusive in the sense that some of them report beliefs in language learning, which have not been modified substantially in pre-service language teachers (Peacock, 2001), while others suggest the contrary (e.g. Debreli, 2012). The authors of the present article describe the beliefs of a selected group of students from a 2009-2 cohort reporting changes over the four year period in the following thematic lines: difficulty of the language, foreign language aptitude, nature of language learning, learning and communication strategies, and motivations and expectations. The authors argue that beliefs play a central role in the process of pre-service teacher development as they anticipate changes in teacher's practices. The study´s theoretical and pedagogical implications for the educational program are also discussed in this paper. De igual forma, se presentan estudios derivados de la emergencia sanitaria del COVID 19, lo que permite conocer el impacto de ésta en la enseñanza y aprendizaje de lenguas en diferentes contextos del territorio nacional.
