Trans Ova Genetics supports various youth associations and activities as a way to show our commitment to livestock youth and to illustrate our efforts to help them achieve their goals. Trans Ova Genetics offers college students a competitive internship program to learn about advanced reproductive technologies in the livestock industry. Students have the opportunity to work hands-on with cattle or within our IVF labs. Trans Ova Genetics also offers a total of 20 scholarships, 15 of which have been created through Trans Ova Genetics’ own Youth Scholarship Program.

In today’s job market, experience gives you the edge. Trans Ova Genetics offers a summer internship program that is designed to give students who have a passion for the animal science and reproduction industry a hands-on and real world experience in the area of reproductive technologies.

The number of internships varies from year to year, on average 12 positions are available. The majority of these positions will be based out of Sioux Center, Iowa. Positions at our Boonsboro, Maryland, and Bryan, Texas facility vary year to year.         

Internship types include: 
– Professional Services Intern
– Client Services Intern
– Cattle Herdsman Intern
– Laboratory Internships
– Professional Services Embryologist Intern
– Marketing

The internship will begin in May (as soon as school is finished), and the position will conclude towards the end of July to the first week in August.

Interested candidates must complete the online application in order to be considered for an internship. Click on the “Careers” tab to complete the online application and upload your cover letter and resume prior to November 1. Qualified candidates will be contacted and interviews will take place towards the end of November and selections will be completed by December 15. 

Candidates should receive an email after applying letting you know your application has been received.  However, application materials will not be passed along to the hiring teams until after the November 1st deadline so you will not receive an update on your application until after that November 1 deadline.

As a part of the Trans Ova team, you will be assisting veterinarians in performing procedures such as embryo transfer (ET) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). Responsibilities also include assistance in flushing, freezing and thawing of embryos, organizing and preparing recipient and donor cows for ET and IVF procedures, completing necessary paper work and data entry, and maintaining the sanitation and organization of supplies in the working areas.

Students will experience reproductive technologies and their applications at our headquarters, located in Sioux Center, Iowa, as well as have the opportunity to travel to various farms and ranches. Not only will students meet multiple world-leading breeders who utilize the technologies Trans Ova offers, but will also get to work closely with some of the best beef and dairy cows in the world.

Students who apply for Trans Ova’s internships must have completed their sophomore year of undergraduate studies in Animal Science/Biotechnology or a related degree. Veterinary Medicine students are also encouraged to apply. It is preferred that students have already completed a course in reproduction.

Scholarships

Are you a livestock – enthusiast planning on attending college? Consider applying for a Trans Ova Genetics Youth Scholarship. We know it is not easy to finance a college education, and we know many students can use help achieving their educational goals. Our scholarship program is designed to encourage youth involved in the livestock industry to make a commitment to higher education and agriculture. 

The program offers multiple scholarships with a value of $1,000 per scholarship. The scholarship categories are:
• Beef
• Dairy
• Swine
• Sheep/Goat
• Veterinary Student

Scholarship applications will open on January 1.

Trans Ova Genetics started the Youth Scholarship Program in 2012, as a way to show our commitment to livestock youth and to illustrate our efforts to help them earn financial support

Trans Ova Genetics will be awarding multiple $1,000 scholarships.

Scholarships will be provided to the following categories: beef, dairy, veterinary student, sheep, goats, and swine.

The scholarships are open to high school seniors and college students in their first or second year of undergraduate study. 

Students are not required to be studying in an agriculture field, but candidates are asked to show active involvement or future intent of involvement in the agricultural industry.

Along with submitting an application, students will be asked to write an essay 500 words or less based on one question chosen by the scholarship committee.

(Questions will be changed each year.) All entry essays submitted may be used in Trans Ova Genetics’ promotional material in the future.

A panel will be asked to judge the applications and essays. The panel will consist of internal Trans Ova Genetics’ employees as well as outside industry leaders. Applications will be judged using a scoring system.

When are applications due — and when will the winners names be announced?

Applications will open on January 1, are due March 15, and the winners will be announced on May 1.

Scholarships will be provided to the proper school/institution upon proof of enrollment.

Past winners of the Trans Ova Genetics Scholarship program are not eligible for the scholarship. Those who are not awarded a Trans Ova Genetics’ Scholarship are encouraged to re-apply.
