Commission Post!

(Updated January '25)

I wasn't originally planning to take commissions during the school term, but since I have to take 16 credits this term, my financial aid refund has dropped by a kind of staggering amount compared to last term! I'll definitely be fine through February at least, but March is going to be a struggle and I was hoping to build some amount of cushion for the summer (when I won't be getting financial aid). So, offerings below, and I'm open to other ideas if you have something you want to see in my style!

Pokemon icons - $15-25

A pokemon of your choice in front of a simple background (I usually do gradients, but can also do solid colors or patterns!) - you can also choose a thicker or thinner lineart style, with both being pictured above.

Custom Animal Crossing villager - $25-45

These ones I can do pretty much any Animal Crossing villager species, and simple poses - I can also do the same solid color, gradient, or pattern backgrounds as the Pokemon icons. I'd just need a species, color(s), and any details or clothing you want added!

Character art - $45-85

I can only take a couple of these, and price would depend on if you want full-body or partial portraits and if you want a background or not. I am willing to do furry/anthro designs, fan art, NSFW, and moderate injuries/simpler robots but not a ton of gore or complicated mechs. For these I would need a description of your character and I would send you some pen-and-ink sketches to finalize the design in my style before starting on the digital work. (Second image courtesy of @taulupis as that was a commission of its character Anaรฏs!)

Feel free to send me an ask or a DM if you're interested in a commission - I can accept payment through PayPal, CashApp or Venmo! I also have acrylic painting commissions available, if anyone's interested in those :)

At first the frosting looked like oh this was a bad idea, but at the end it all came together just fine. The frosting is not technically raw, I wasnโ€™t completely comfortable using the nettles raw and so Iโ€™ve blanched them first.

I went and looked up the actual recipe just to reassure myself because the implication of raw nettle frosting made me anxious

I have no idea what my success rate is but my current method for leaving a good first impression on people in a professional or semi-professional setting is going in for a normal handshake and then briefly holding their hand in both hands while I tell them something relevant and sincere. It really makes a quick introduction feel like a full conversation instead.

Relevant and sincere introduction comments:

โ€œYou look familiar, I believe we may have met elsewhere before.โ€

โ€œI am so happy to finally meet you, [X] has told me a lot about you.โ€

โ€œSo nice to meet you, I was just admiring your [outfit, purse, haircut] from across the room.โ€

โ€œIโ€™m really excited to work together, this is going to be a great project.โ€

โ€œI saw your work at [X] and really enjoyed [specific thing about it].โ€

โ€œI appreciate you considering me for this role, Iโ€™m excited about this position because [specific thing about it].โ€

Also I am a neurodivergent eye-contact hater but I make a point to maintain natural eye contact (natural amount determined by them) during this first conversation. It gives me a free pass to make less eye contact later.

I work with multiple local youth organizations so I have lot of people introduce themselves as โ€œJoeyโ€™s dadโ€ or โ€œTaylorโ€™s grandmaโ€ and Iโ€™ve found a very easy sincere and relevant comment is โ€œI might have known you were Joeyโ€™s dad, your smile is exactly the same,โ€ or โ€œof course youโ€™re Taylorโ€™s grandma she inherited your eyes.โ€

It feels personal, almost intimate, but people usually react very joyfully to this, especially women.

ALSO! Something sincere about their kid. โ€œJacob has such a great sense of humor.โ€ โ€œMarnie always makes sure other kids feel included.โ€ People love to hear great news about the kids in their lives.

Itโ€™s weird how everyone hating you when youโ€™re nine years old still affects your self esteem when youโ€™re 26 like yeah nobody came to my birthday party but that was like 17 years ago why is it stopping me from going to a gay bar

The human brain needs the ability to be recalibrated faster. Yeah weโ€™ve been doing this healing process for like six or seven years now make it snappy hurry it up

Public comment has been opened on changing passport forms. It's important that people who aren't trans please take a minute and say "hey this is bad". Please help. :)

I don't know if I think this will change anything, but it's a 5 minute investment of time, and it can't hurt.

Hereโ€™s the text I used, folks can feel free to crib (I cribbed the court case from one of the comments):

I strongly disagree with changing gender to sex, and with limiting the response to M or F. Intersex people across a broad spectrum make up a not insignificant number of our citizens; additionally these updates are in violation of the enjoinment put on State by the U.S. District Court for the District of Colorado in the Zzyym v. Blinken case (formerly Zzyym v. Pompeo, Zzyym v. Tillerson, and Zzyym v. Kerry). Additionally, gender presentation is more impactful in how somebody is perceived than their assigned sex at birth, which may or may not be congruent with their perceived sex or gender as an adult

Speaking as someone who has had to dig through these comments on regulations.gov, this is a good example.

Notice that the Federal Register posts linked on Reddit have a section titled "We are soliciting public comments to permit the Department to". You could also use that as a template, or copy and paste then edit as you see fit. For example if the original states:

  • Evaluate whether the proposed information collection is necessary for the proper functions of the Department.
  • Evaluate the accuracy of our estimate of the time and cost burden for this proposed collection, including the validity of the methodology and assumptions used.
  • Enhance the quality, utility, and clarity of the information to be collected.
  • Minimize the reporting burden on those who are to respond, including the use of automated collection techniques or other forms of information technology.

You could then write:

Changing the forms just to have "sex" instead of "gender" and limiting the response to M or F is not necessary for the proper functions of the State Department. It implies that the currently issued passports have something wrong with them already. In my travels it is my biometrics that get checked when I enter a new territory; private parts would do nothing to enhance the quality, utility, or clarity of the information to be collected. This proposed change adds unnecessary burdens on the government.

I hate when people ask me about my preference but I donโ€™t understand their preference level. Like yes I kinda want Chinese food 10% more than I want a sandwich but if you want a sandwich like 40% more than Chinese food then I would say itโ€™s totally reasonable we get sandwiches.

I actually have a preference BUT itโ€™s mild and if my choice is going to cause you inconvenience then my preference is inconsequential, yโ€™know?

Idgaf about best in show, but most memeable in show goes to Kalliope Mojito "Mojito" the smooth-coated chihuahua.

He looks like a fast food worker in need of a smoke break. He looks like a salaryman who just got told he won't be getting a christmas bonus even though his wife is divorcing him because he's always at the office. He looks like every highschool senior in the hallway after exams. He looks like Dros from disco elysium. Someone help this man.

This little one acts completely feral unless you make the "mommy greeting kittens" noise at them. When my phone isn't making them unsure they will come charging to the front of the cage for attention by the second trill.

You can see the body language change in the ears with the first and second trill real well

i'm far from the first person to be saying this i am sure, but it's kind of crazy that Section 31 was introduced as part of a character arc wherein Julian Bashir learns that being a spy is not cool or sexy and it is in fact profound evil. & now 30 years later Trek as a franchise is so low on marketable ideas that they're making a Sexy Spy show about Section 31. like. lol.

I know that its not actually that hard to learn to draw. or paint. or cook. or learn to speak a new language. or code. or any of a myriad of other possible skills or hobbies. but at some point you need to pick some single digit number of those ten thousand things that anyone can do, and to everything else say "i have other priorities" because otherwise you will never do any of them.

and so i think when people say "i wish i could..." they usually don't believe that they couldn't do it if they really tried, or even that they've overestimated the difficulty of doing so. I think what they're really wishing for is that time and energy were not finite quantities and that everything that was worth doing could also be done. because it's cosmically unfair that that isn't so.
