The mysterious Specters (スペクター Supekutā) are "inversions of the Matrix Spectrum" faced by the Primus Vanguard.

Fiction
Precursor World
In the seven universes protected by the Primus Vanguard, the Specters acted as shadows of the Light of the Vanguard's Matrices. Thus, while they could be temporarily beaten back, as long as light existed, so would shadow. Blue Brightes Convoy fell in battle with them, and so leadership of the Blue Order was entrusted to Big. The Specters later attacked Straxus, Black Go Prime, and the Three Musketeers. Straxus was separated from the others and about to meet his doom till Blue Big Convoy came to his rescue. With maximum output from his α Matrix Cannon, he was able to vanquish the attacking Specters. Before they dissolved, however, the Specters cryptically whispered that they were retreating in the face of the "blue apostle" and that they would return "when the seven are divided". With the realization that maximum brightness could destroy the Specters, the leaders of the Primus Vanguard conceived a plan to use all of the light in their Matrices to destroy the Specters and leave no shadow. This had the side effect of unifying the seven universes into one, which seemed peaceful. This was not to last, as the Specters had not been destroyed, but evolved into the Vok and made their triumphant return when Primus's breakdown regarding the origin of the Vok and the nature of the next universe drove away his Convoys and Primes, thus fulfilling the Specters' prophecy. Notes
- The name is a pun on spectre (スペクトル supekutoru) the Japanese word (loaned from French) for "spectrum".
- With a Specter taking on the appearance of Brightes, Thunderwing, and Heatwave (all three having hologram statues in the Ivory Towers) the implication seems to be that they take the forms of former members or leaders of the Primus Vanguard.
