Hot Shot beats his bad luck with the help of Cody's good luck charm—a rubber ducky.

Synopsis
The recruits are scaling a sheer ice face. Wedge tells Hot Shot to take the lead, but the other recruit promptly sinks his pickax into a fault line, causing them to fall. The simulation ends as a failed mission and Hot Shot laments that he's off his game today. When Heatwave asks for someone to clean the courtyard, Hot Shot volunteers, figuring he can't mess that up. Unfortunately he has the bright idea to use his sonic blasters to tidy the leaves faster, which results in him knocking even more leaves out of a tree. The other recruits find him buried in a huge pile, and he again complains that he's messing up a lot today. The others send him to play Cube to regain some confidence, but it turns out he's having an off day for Cube as well. On learning of the problem, Cody presents him with a Rubber Duck which supposedly has the power to grant good luck.
Armed with Luke, the Lucky Ducky, Hot Shot successfully completes the ice face challenge with the other recruits. Cody finds Hot Shot artfully playing Cube, which the recruit puts down to having the Rubber Duck. When Cody asks for the toy back, Hot shot persuades him otherwise, hoping to maintain his streak of success. Later, the rescue alarm goes off, and the recruits head to the GroundBridge room, where Cody briefs them—an iceberg has broken off the Labrador Ice Shelf and is heading towards Maine. Dr. Hart is trapped in a crevice on the iceberg, and the recruits are tasked with rescuing her while the Rescue Bots knock the iceberg off course. Before they leave, Cody wishes Hot Shot luck and gives him a high five.
Whirl drops her winch down to Dr. Hart, but Hart's leg is trapped in the ice and unable to be pulled out. Wedge tries unsuccessfully to widen the crevice to free her. Hot Shot has his own idea, having Hoist hold his jet mode in place so he can blast the ice with his afterburners. Wedge is then able to widen the crevice and they successfully rescue Dr. Hart. The recruits return to base, where they congratulate Hot Shot on getting his mojo back. Hot Shot, however, realizes he's lost the Rubber Duck. When the others are confused by the idea that luck had anything to do with their success, Cody reveals that the duck was never with them on the mission—he pick-pocketed it off Hot Shot while high fiving him earlier. The rescue alarm goes off, and when Wedge notices Hot Shot isn't taking the Rubber Duck, he grabs Luke himself, "just in case."
