The Iacon 5000 was a city-wide race officiated by Sentinel Prime happening all across Iacon City on a self-forming track full of twists, turns, drops, and obstacles. The competition was as dangerous as it was prestigious – kicking or ramming other racers off the track were acceptable tactics, and injuries were common. Miners were given the day off work on the day of the race so they could watch as well. Orion Pax roped himself and D-16 into joining the race unannounced as it began, with the aim of showing all of Cybertron that miners were also capable of more than just menial labor. The pair were swiftly overtaken by Chromia, who was announced winner... and seconds later, everyone else behind her. However, their efforts did not go unnoticed. Inspired by two of their own going toe to toe against the best racers of Iacon, the miners managed to achieve a 150% quota on their very next shift – an achievement that led Sentinel to commend the duo and promise them handsome rewards, though things didn't go as planned.
