Also known as the "Beast of Time" (時の野獣 Toki no Yajū), the Hytherion (ハイセリオン Haiserion) is a hyper-dimensional creature of immense power and destructive potential, capable of traveling freely throughout universal streams. Composed of the dimensionally-resonant material alternium, the Hytherion's natural sustenance is time itself. In particular, the beast has been known to savor devouring the origins of worlds and universes, a tendency which has seeded fear of it in countless universes where it is known as the "Origin Eater". Normally invisible and intangible to lower-dimensional beings, the Hytherion is opposed by the enlightened guardians of causality known as the Alternity, an evolved form of Cybertronian life. It is prophesied that the evil Megatron will lead the creature to destroy the Earth.

The Hytherion is known by the Transcendent Technomorphs to be a force of nature, a cog in the great multiversal machine whose function is to consume weakened and damaged universes, preventing their chaos from spreading further into the multiverse.

The Hytherion originated in Cymond 772.0 Beta, a weapon used by the Terminators against the Originators at the end of time. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/06/15 At an unspecified point of time, Logos Prime encountered the Hytherion, which drove Logos mad. Ask Vector Prime, 2015/06/14 The Hytherion devoured the remains of Primax 504.0 Gamma after its destabilization at the hands of Unicron Ask Vector Prime, 2015/05/30 and Aurex 304.0 Epsilon after its devastation by the Destructicons and Tornedron. Alternity

The Protector agent Cliffjumper was dispatched 2.4 billion years into the past to prevent the Hytherion from feeding on a galaxy at the moment of its birth. Though the Alternity were unable to enter this time period themselves, Cliffjumper braved the dimensional turbulence and fired a marker weapon at the beast, which allowed the Alternity superweapon known as the "Sword of the Heavens" to strike at the Hytherion through time. The Optimus Prime of Primax 109.0 Beta was recruited by his alternate self into the ranks of the Alternity in response to the imminent threat of the Hytherion descending upon the Earth of his universal stream. From Here to Alternity The Hytherion was drawn to Earth by the lurking transwarp ship of Megatron, who had studied the beast for some time and had lured it across the dimensions by broadcasting a temporal code that enticed it. Though the Convoy Aggregate of the Alternity responded swiftly to the threat against the defenseless world, Earth's destruction turned out not to be Megatron's goal. Rather, it was a ruse to get the Hytherion within striking distance and enslave the creature, overwriting its higher functions in a gambit to ascend to the same hyper-dimensional state as the Alternity. Thus established as the great beast's master, the auto-avatars that Megatron had seeded on the planet below sprung to life. To Mega Therion

The Alternity battled Megatron by concurrently destroying large amounts of his auto-avatars in hopes that his control over the Hytherion would loosen and the beast's consciousness would gain the upper hand. The swift destruction of 667 of the avatars did indeed lead to Megatron being corrupted by the Hytherion's mind, turning him into a mindless raging "Megatherion" who blindly attacked his former tools, the Planicrons. The Planicrons struck back and shattered the Megatron Aggregate's group consciousness, presumably freeing the Hytherion from Megatron's control. Alternation

The defeat of the Hytherion left the beast inactive and caused the chaotic cross-dimensional ripples caused by the destruction of Primax 207.0 Epsilon to go unchecked, prompting High Chancellor Optimus Prime of Nexus 208.0 Epsilon to form the Convoy to try to deal with the altered dynamics of the multiverse. • The Hytherion's name appears to be a portmanteau of the mighty Titan Hyperion (Ὑπερίων) from Greek mythology and the Greek root word "therion" (θηρίον), meaning "beast".
