Hasbro Pulse is the current official Hasbro web store for the United States, United Kingdom, Canada (excluding Quebec), the entire European Union, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia and Taiwan. Aimed specifically at adult fans, Pulse's product selection consists mostly of collector-focused toylines, such as Transformers: Generations.

History

The Hasbro Pulse name was originally used for the company's collector-focused news website, which launched on June 25, 2015.[1] Visitors who signed up to receive updates from Pulse were sent a free welcome package featuring, among other items, an exclusive variant cover of IDW Publishing's The Transformers (2012) #41.[2]

On February 15, 2019, one day before the start of New York Toy Fair 2019, Hasbro Pulse was relaunched as Hasbro's new web store, replacing the Hasbro Toy Shop website that had closed down the previous month[3] (Hasbro Toy Shop still remains as a store on eBay).

On June 26, 2020, Hasbro debuted the first Transformers themed "Fan First Friday" feature.

On August 31, 2020, Hasbro announced Hasbro PulseCon 2020, which happened on September 25 and 26[4] in lieu of any in-person convention during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On March 10, 2021, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to the United Kingdom.[5]

On March 15, 2021, Hasbro announced Hasbro Pulse Fan Fest 2021, which happened on April 9.[6]

On August 20, 2021, Hasbro announced Hasbro Pulse Con 2021, which happened on October 22 and 23.

On August 28, 2021, the Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel uploaded the entire first season of The Transformers for free streaming. The remainder of the show was subsequently added to the channel at a rate of one season per week.

On November 10, 2021 the Hasbro Pulse YouTube channel began uploading a series of stop motion shorts to celebrate the 35th anniversary of The Transformers: The Movie.

On October 10, 2021, the Hasbro Pulse mobile app launched.[7]

On March 30, 2022, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to Germany.[8]

On July 19, 2022, Hasbro announced Hasbro Pulse Con 2022, to be held September 30 and October 1.[9]

On September 21, 2022, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to France, Spain, Italy and Austria.[10]

On May 6, 2023, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.[11]

On July 12, 2023, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to the remainder of the European Union (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Sweden).[12]

On July 26, 2023, Hasbro Pulse opened its doors to Taiwan.[13]

Livestreams

Virtual conventions

Hasbro PulseCon 2020 Logo.jpeg

Due in no small part to the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hasbro Pulse YouTube page has become the default venue for Hasbro's fan oriented conventions from 2020 onward, including:

Fan First Friday

FanFirstFriday logo.jpeg

Fan First Fridays are streaming events that originally started on Hasbro Pulse's Facebook and eventually, their YouTube channel, where Hasbro employees reveal new toy product and other merchandise for one of their various toy-lines—typically from franchises like G.I. Joe, Transformers and Star Wars. Transformers streams are primarily for exclusive toys, though mass-retail products and other merchandise are occasionally revealed, namely Studio Series. Fan First Fridays also occasionally share in-universe insight, such as what went down between Earthrise Runamuck and Runabout. Fan First Fridays were eventually given the more generic moniker "Transformers Fanstreams" after scheduling conflicts produced an untenable series of Fan First Ftuesdays and Fthursdays.

1027 Premium Events

Named after the street address of Hasbro's Rhode Island headquarters, the 1027 Premium Events have been annual streams that, naturally, occur on October 27. Most if not all of Hasbro's current "collector" brands are represented, including Transformers. They are nominally meant to be exclusive to Hasbro Pulse Premium subscribers, but as they are streamed on YouTube, there is technically nothing preventing anyone who has a link from watching them. And the archive goes up for everyone afterwards anyways, soooooo...

Additional livestreams and videos

Additional Hasbro Pulse streams and interviews relating to the Transformers brand occasionally occur outside of the Fan First Friday and Pulse Con umbrellas.

Blogs

Hasbro Pulse Unboxed

The blogger at work.

"Hasbro Pulse Unboxed" is a blog featured on the Hasbro Pulse website that provides designer interviews and various other behind the scenes articles, HasLab project updates, the occasional lore tidbit, and more. Transformers features on the blog have included:

HasLab Preview

As of some time in 2023, Hasbro Pulse spun updates on HasLab projects into their own, separate blog called "HasLab Preview" featuring all past HasLab posts as well as:

Unboxed, packed away

In a move of questionable intentionality, an aesthetic overhaul to the storefront portion of the site taken live in late July 2024 deleted en masse very nearly the entirety of both blogs, leaving the final update on the Deathsaurus campaign (now listed twice under different titles) as the sole Transformers related blog post left on the website.

HasLab on Hasbro Pulse is a crowdfunding platform where fans can back ginormous collectors' products and other one-shot items that you wouldn't find at regular retail. Basically, they say "we'll make this thing if we get X number of preorders", and if that preorder goal is met, they make the thing (charging buyers right away once the actual crowdfunding part of the campaign is over). Often there are "stretch goals" where, if even larger numbers of preorders get placed, more items are added to the product, like extra accessories or even whole figures. And then in roughly a year's time, the finally-finished product gets shipped out to buyers.

If the thing doesn't get the needed minimum number of preorders in time? Well, it doesn't get made. Not every HasLab product has made it. As of early 2024, every Transformers campaign has been successful, though the first one, Unicron got a little bit of a time extension to make it over the finish line.

HasLab is not exclusive to Transformers and includes several other brands licensed by Hasbro and Hasbro Gaming, though Transformers is one of the more successful brands, never having failed to fund a project. The War for Cybertron Trilogy Unicron was the very first Transformers product available through HasLab and is so far the largest official Transformers toy ever made, even surpassing the other toys that once held that title by several inches.

Due to Hasbro Pulse only being available to those living in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom and some countries in Europe, Hasbro opens up availability to the wider world through online retailers, such as BigBadToyStore, and includes those sales as contributions to the total crowdfund. As for Japan, preorders adding to the tally can be made officially through TakaraTomy Mall.

As of November 2022, HasLab has been split off into its own department within the company distinct from any specific brand team, though representatives from the Transformers team remain present for relevant projects to consult and liaise with TakaraTomy.[16]
