Godbomber
From Transformers Wiki
- Godbomber is an Autobot drone from the Super-God Masterforce portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.
Godbomber (ゴッドボンバー Goddobonbā) is a product of the super-science of the planet Master, created by the Autobots to serve as a personal power-up for their leader, Ginrai. Godbomber is merely a drone with no spark of his own, animated by Chōkon Power drawn from Ginrai himself and responding to the Autobot commander's emotions and needs. Godbomber is also equipped with cargo space to carry the Transtectors of the three Autobot Headmaster Juniors, who can drive the drone from his three-man cockpit and animate him by uniting their own Chōkon Power.
Godbomber is composed of multiple component parts, which disassemble and reconfigure into his assorted modes. His components include the "God Wing", the "God Punch", the "God Legs", and the "God Breast", which connect to Ginrai to transform him into God Ginrai. Godbomber and God Ginrai both wield the mighty God Cannon.

When the Decepticon super-weapon, BlackZarak began making his way towards Earth, the space-based Autobot army dispatched Grand Maximus to inform the Autobots under Metalhawk's command of the situation. Grand Maximus gave the Autobots on Earth the plans and materials necessary for the construction of Godbomber, which would endow Ginrai with the ability to fly and fight in space, thereby allowing him to stop BlackZarak before he reached Earth. When the Autobots saved the life of Leftfoot, head of the British Motors automotive company and father of the Autobot Godmaster Lightfoot, not long thereafter, he showed his gratitude by offering them the use of the British Motors factories in Canada to carry out the construction project, which was dubbed the "Bomber Project". Life? Death? The Desperate Lightfoot
The Bomber Project was at first concealed from the Headmaster Juniors, but this decision didn't last long, and Shūta, Cab and Minerva were soon brought to the British Motors facility. When Ginrai was badly injured in battle with Overlord soon after, Super Ginrai Gets Blown Away in the Desert!? the Decepticons discovered the existence of the Bomber Project and attacked the facility just as the project was entering its final phase. Thanks to some trickery from the Autobot Godmasters, the Decepticons were lured away from the factory and defeated Will the Bomber Project Be Destroyed!? and Godbomber was at last completed. Despite his injuries, Ginrai wasted no time in merging with Godbomber into God Ginrai, and headed for the Moon to battle Overlord and BlackZarak. God Ginrai - Into the Sky!! Although the battle went badly at first, the arrival of Grand Maximus tipped the scales in the Autobots' favour, and the two Decepticons were bested. God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon
Smarting after their defeat on the moon, Giga and Mega resolved to cripple Ginrai by destroying Godbomber, and lured the pair to a Middle-Eastern desert to do the deed. During the battle, Godbomber revealed the unexpected ability to transform into a robot mode, joining his firepower with Ginrai's to push Giga back. Mega soon arrived and the pair combined into Overlord, who created a whirling tornado of Chōkon-charged sand that swept Ginrai and Godbomber up, but the two Autobots quickly combined back into God Ginrai and defeated the villains. Overlord - Terror of the Chōkon Tornado
When Ginrai, Godbomber and the Headmaster Juniors responded to a distress call from Lightfoot, who had become trapped in a crevasse beneath the ocean by the Seacons, Ginrai dived into the ocean while Godbomber stood watch. When he did not reappear, the Juniors attempted to go after him, but Godbomber restrained them and went beneath the waves in their place. After holding off King Poseidon, Godbomber located Ginrai and Lightfoot buried beneath an avalanche and dug them out, then combined with Ginrai to soundly defeat King Poseidon. Escape!! The Underwater Volcano Erupts
In the heartland of America, the Decepticons took another stab at rubbing out Godbomber, this time by separating him from Ginrai, and attacking the commander, leaving Ginrai's Chōkon Power too depleted to control Godbomber. While Overlord occupied Ginrai, Hydra and Buster targeted Godbomber, but the Autobot Headmaster Juniors boarded the drone and tried to drive it to safety. Hydra and Buster pursued and caused Godbomber to crash into a tree; simultaneously, Ginrai's Chōkon Power was reduced so badly as to leave Godbomber entirely immobile. As Buster closed in to finish the job, however, the three Juniors discovered that if they placed their hands on a panel on the drone's control console, they could infuse it with their own Chōkon Power. Reactivated by the Juniors, Godbomber transformed to robot mode and defeated Buster, and then returned to Ginrai's side and combined with him to best Overlord. Destroy Godbomber!!
Godbomber later helped Ginrai and the Autobot Godmasters battle Hydra and Buster Secret Orders! Destroy the Autobot Base!! and rescued the Juniors and Metalhawk from the Autobot base before a Decepticon attack destroyed it. Disaster! The Autobot Base Explodes
Godbomber subsequently spent almost all of the time combined with Ginrai, although when the Autobot commander ventured into the Decepticon base to rescue the captive Shūta, he separated from the drone so that they could split up to better search the complex. Godbomber happened upon Shūta in the clutches of King Poseidon, but was ordered by Ginrai to stand down for fear of Shūta's safety. When the Decepticon Headmaster Junior Cancer turned on his teammates and rescued Shūta, however, Godbomber sprang into action, finishing off the Seacon combiner and helping everyone get to safety before returning to Ginrai's side and recombining with him to defeat Overlord once more. God Ginrai: Showdown at the Decepticon Base
In the midst of a battle in the Grand Canyon, Godbomber battled a swarm of Seacons and Sparkdash drones alongside the Headmaster Juniors. When he sensed that Ginrai was in danger, the Juniors instructed him to go to the commander's aid, and Godbomber complied, racing to Ginrai's aid and combining with him to battle the powered-up Darkwings brothers. Battle to the Death!! God Ginrai VS Darkwings Reborn Godbomber was never seen to separate from Ginrai again, and was still connected to him when he defeated the Decepticon ruler Devil Z.
With Devil Z's death, the humans were separated from their Transtectors, and the Transtectors themselves were brought to life as true robotic beings. Godbomber was still merged with the new robotic Ginrai as he and the other Transtectors departed Earth to rejoin their respective factions in space. A Battle... and Then...
Legends comic
Grand would later tell Ginrai that Godbomber was developed as a type of Master-Brace technology that served to bridge the gap between human and robotic life by connecting the three forms of Chōkon Power. The robot had in fact become a living being when infused with the Headmaster Juniors' Chōkon Power, though this life force vanished when Devil Z's death severed the humans' connection to that power, and the Godbomber that remained with the robotic Ginrai returned to being a mere drone.
When the human Ginrai got a new Transtector, the Autobots in the Legends World began building a new Headmaster Godbomber to go with it. Close to completion, many of the parts were stolen by Nightbeat, Trickdiamond, and Thrust, though they left behind the Headmaster unit that would control it. Having reacquired their powers, the Headmaster Juniors infused the unit with Chōkon Power and brought Godbomber back to life again, complete with memories of its past life and the ability to speak. Godbomber was completed and set out to save Ginrai from the stolen Godbomber, which had been completed using Trickdiamond and Thrust as its legs and was being used for evil by the Headmaster Nightbeat, defeating it by combining with Ginrai into God Ginrai. Happily reunited with his old partner, Ginrai had a laugh at its serious personality. Bonus Edition Vol. 42
Nightbeat and the Decepticon Headmasters rebuilt their half-complete Godbomber and used it during an attack on Metroplex. Decepticon Civil War The real Godbomber was part of God Ginrai when he faced off against Trypticon, but the giant beast defeated him by simply ripping the Godbomber pieces off of him. Bonus Edition Vol. 43 While carrying Ginrai through the sky for a delivery, Godbomber was shot down by the Gigatank and had his Headmaster unit captured by the Megajet. Fortunately, Minerva and Cab saved the day by taking control of the Super Ginrai and Godbomber transtectors and driving away their enemies. Bonus Edition God Ginrai Fearing that the reappearance of Giga and Mega would lead to the return of Overlord, Ginrai brought Godbomber to the G Nebula 89 and had Perceptor upgrade its armor plating for the coming battle. Late Xmas Present Chapter
Overlord did indeed return, this time in the form of two separate Overlords who easily bested Super Ginrai and Godbomber, forcing them to combine and rely on God Ginrai's new armor. The Overlords then combined as well and blew Godbomber off of Ginrai, but he was able to access a new time of Chōkon Power and re-combine. Bonus Edition Vol. 60 Godbomber was combined with Ginrai during the final battle with a resurrected Devil Z. Bonus Edition Grand Maximus
Victory cartoon
The original Godbomber remained as part of the fully robotic God Ginrai in the war against Deathsaurus's Decepticons in 2025. When God Ginrai was fatally wounded by the Emperor of Destruction and rebuilt into Victory Leo, so too was Godbomber. Ginrai Dies!!

Super-God Masterforce comic
Following Ginrai's appointment as Supreme Commander of the Autobots, the Earth- and space-based Autobot forces combined their efforts to construct Godbomber. The Battle Begins! The Earth-Space Alliance Army Despite being threatened by Jin and Mirai, Headmasters VS Masterforce this "Bomber Project" was quickly completed, and Godbomber was piloted into battle by the Headmaster Juniors alongside Ginrai, combining with him to defeat Overlord and BlackZarak. God Ginrai's Amazing Divine Combination!
When Shūta and Cab were captured by the Decepticons, Minerva was left to pilot Godbomber alone, and crashed the drone through the walls of Overlord's base mode in order to rescue her friends. When Overlord responded by transforming, Godbomber did the same, and combined with Ginrai to join Grand Maximus in defeating the Decepticons. The Good and Evil Families of Earth
Godbomber and Ginrai were combined when they pursued Darkwings to the peak of Chomolungma, where the Decepticons were menacing the world with their new A.O. Laser, but separated upon arrival to battle the villains. Godbomber was made a target for the A.O. Laser, but Ginrai leaped into the path of the beam to protect the Headmaster Juniors and was blinded by the blast. Luckily, an insulting remark from Cancer caused the new Decepticon Godmaster Clouder to turn against his teammates, and Godbomber recombined with Ginrai to knock Overlord out of the fight with a God Punch. The Decepticons' Great Counterattack!
After a further battle with Overlord in which Ginrai and Godbomber used the new Autobot weapon, the VX Bomb Life or Death? The Desperate Divine Combination! and a battle in a city where Cancer went to, The Great Turnabout of the Autobots Godbomber combined with Ginrai for his final battle with the Decepticons. During this clash, the Decepticon ruler Devil Z turned on his subordinates and attempted to drain their Jinchōkon in order to transform himself into the ultimate lifeform. Saved by the Autobot Pretenders, the Decepticons joined with Ginrai, Godbomber and the other Autobots in combining their energy into the "Perfect Transform Attack", which destroyed Devil Z for good. With the alien being's death, the Transformers' Transtectors came to life as true super-robot lifeforms, including (somehow) Godbomber. Bidding farewell to the Headmaster Juniors, Godbomber joined with the other Transformers in departing Earth to rejoin their respective factions in space. The Birth of the Super Life-Forms

Toys
Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers
- Godbomber (Cybertron, 1988)
- ID number: C-309
- Accessories: "God Cannon", 2 "Tachyon Missiles"
- : Released in the fourth year of Takara's Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers line under the Super-God Masterforce banner, Godbomber transforms into an armored trailer, composed of a collection of modular pieces. He does not so much transform as he does break apart—into two arms, two legs, two wings, a chest and a back—and recombine in a different configuration, with the only elements of transformation being his flip-out feet and head. He is armed in both modes with the God Cannon, which can either mount on his shoulder or be held in his fist in robot mode.
- Godbomber combines with the separately-sold Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai, once again by breaking into chunks.
- This set of molds was used—almost entirely without changes—to make Apex Bomber.
- Godginrai [sic] (Godmaster multi-pack, 1988)
- ID number: C-310
- Accessories: Godmaster Transtector, 2 "Superconductor Rifles", 2 "Particle Beam Cannons", Super Ginrai head, "God Cannon", 2 "Tachyon Missiles"
- Godbomber was also available in a giftset with Ginrai, and is able to interact with the Autobot commander in several ways. In trailer mode, Godbomber can hook up either directly to Ginrai's cab or to the back of Ginrai's own trailer and be towed along behind him, while any of Ginrai's weapons can plug into the holes in Godbomber's wings and chassis. Most prominently, of course, Godbomber disassembles into his various component parts, which combine with Super Ginrai to form God Ginrai. The God Legs become boots to which Ginrai's Particle Beam Cannons attach; the God Wing attaches to Ginrai's back, the two God Punch arms clip over Ginrai's own; and the God Breast clips over Ginrai's chest, into the top of which the God Cannon plugs. The toy also features a secondary, lesser combination referred to as the "God Breaster," which involves attaching the God Breast to Super Ginrai, and plugging Godbomber's wings into his arms.
- ID number: C-310
- Accessories: Godmaster transtector, 2 "Superconductor Rifles", 2 "Particle Beam Cannons", Super Ginrai head, "God Cannon", "Tachyon Missile"
- The God Ginrai giftset was reissued in Japan in 2001 with the notable modification of blue eyes for the small Ginrai robot and a slightly different shade of red paint on the cab. However, it was notoriously over-produced, and online retailers were still selling it even years later, at greatly reduced prices. The blue plastic used on this reissue appears to be susceptible to GPS, becoming brittle and prone to breakage over time.
- The reissue was redecoed into the exclusive "Fire Guts God Ginrai" figure (see below).
- ID number: C-310E
- Accessories: Godmaster Transtector, 2 "Superconductor Rifles", 2 "Particle Beam Cannons", Super Ginrai head, "God Cannon", 2 "Tachyon Missiles"
- Released to coincide with the 2002 reissue of the God Ginrai giftset, this redeco casts the Autobot duo in reds and oranges, representing the "God Fire Guts" attack from the animated series. Fire Guts God Ginrai featured his own unique packaging, with recolored package art, and was limited to 1600 pieces.
Legends
- Godbomber (Leader class, 2017)
- ID number: LG42
- Release date: May 27, 2017
- Accessories: Headmaster, Shoulder cannon, shoulder cannon tip, sword, sword hilt, helmet
- Known designers: Hisashi Yuki (TakaraTomy)
- Released in the nineteenth wave of TakaraTomy's Legends toys (and the only item in said wave), Godbomber is a Leader-sized figure that transforms from robot into an armored trailer and into a battle station that can be manned by Legends Headmasters. Godbomber can interact with Legends Super Ginrai (or his redeco Magnus Prime), being able to attach to the back of its alternate mode and splitting into pieces to form God Ginrai. The front hatch opens revealing enough space to store three Headmasters, recreating the scene from the Masterforce opening where the three Autobot Headmasters Jr. are seen inside God Ginrai's chestplate, and the cannon opens up to seat or store one Headmaster. He comes with a sword based on the one God Ginrai used in Victory to fight Deathsaurus.
- Godbomber's legs also use Combiner Wars-styled ports and pegs to attach them both to the main body and under Ginrai's feet. The included comic takes advantage of this by showing an "evil form" for him, using Unite Warriors Curse Armada Thrust and Trickdiamond as his legs, plus replacing his head with Legends Nightbeat. Creating this "evil form" also involves moving his wings to be horizontal, assembling the sword to be used, and removing the shoulder cannon. Godbomber is unique compared to most his size in that his helmet is not permanently attached to his body.
- Unfortunately, some copies of Godbomber suffered from loose joints and connections in his arms, cannon, and sword.
- God Ginrai (Multi-pack, 2017)
- ID number: LG-EX
- Release date: December 2, 2017
- Accessories: Headmaster, Shoulder cannon, shoulder cannon tip, sword, sword hilt, helmet
- Godbomber and Super Ginrai are also available in a God Ginrai-themed multi-pack exclusive to TakaraTomy Mall, featuring several chromed parts and transparent window parts. The set also includes Minerva and Cab Headmasters. This release also contains much better tolerances compared to his individual release.

Transformers Gum
- Godbomber (1988)
- Released in the wave ten of the original Transformers Gum series in 1998, this transforming model kit of Godbomber is made from red, blue, and silver plastic, with stickers for addtional detail. Its largely similar to the original toy apart from plastic color layout. This kit can combine with the Transformers Gum Super Ginrai, released in the previous wave, to make God Ginrai.
- Godbomber (2010)
- Released in the third wave of the revived Transformers Gum series in 2010, this transforming model kit of Godbomber is made from red, blue, and silver plastic, and decorated with quite a few stickers to add his familiar details. Based on the original Godbomber toy, this figure actually features MORE articulation than the original, as the arms are made of two pieces each, adding elbow movement. This kit can combine with the Transformers Gum Super Ginrai, released in the same wave, to make God Ginrai.
- God Ginrai (2010)
- The combined form of the Godbomber and Super Ginrai kits released in the third wave of the revived Transformers Gum series in 2010.
- God Ginrai (2016)
- The Godbomber and Super Ginrai kits were re-released as a bundle under the DX Gattai label in 2016. Each kit comes with a metallic sheen on the plastic, pre-painted head parts, and shinier stickers.
- As with other DX Gattai toys featuring box art in homage to their original figures, God Ginrai's packaging mimics that of the original 1988 God Ginrai two-pack.
Notes
- An earlier, vastly different version of Godbomber shown to the right, transforms far more and splits into parts far less than the final version does for the combined God Ginrai mode and carries a large rifle as opposed to a missile launcher. It may have been scrapped due to budget concerns.
