The boisterous Big Bang (ビッグバン Biggu Ban) is the mightiest member of Autobot command you've never heard of. Never quite given his chance to shine in battle, his biggest claim to (almost) fame was as the fearless commander of the Battlestars against the evils of the mysterious Dark Nova. Or at least it would have been, if Optimus Prime hadn't miraculously returned from the dead and nabbed his spot. It happens to the best of us, buddy.

Big Bang was the Elite Guard's Communications Officer, aided by the fact that his lack of an indoor voice ensured everyone in audioshot would be paying attention when he spoke. Though he was certainly big enough to give any Decepticon pause, he spent his time at headquarters performing duties such as helping with mission briefings rather than serving on a field team.

Before the Great War with the Decepticons began, Big Bang operated as part of the Autobot Guard in an infantry team named the "Advanced Observation Unit." After the battle on Beta-Nine, the AOU would be reconfigured into the new Elite Guard. Wings Universe Sentinel Major profile

Comm Officer Big Bang ran a mission briefing for the Combaticons and Metalhawk's strike team alongside civilian attaché, Alpha Trion. Despite his own feelings on the matter, Big Bang instructed the Elite Guardsmen that they were to report to Median and assist in the excavation of an archaeological find by a group of civilian historians. Their discovery included a long-abandoned factory designed for parallel production of Cybertronian mechanoids. While Alpha Trion "concluded" these factories may have been the answer to the growing divide between Autobot and Decepticon factions, Big Bang was quick to point out that Alpha Trion's conclusions were not officially recognized by council authorities. Flames of Yesterday

Though Big Bang was apparently present at Bruticus's massacre of Elite Guardsmen outside headquarters, The Coming Storm: Part 5 he survived and joined Ironfist, Rumbler, and Sprocket in coming to the aid of Magnum's team in their battle against Deathsaurus and his troops. The four of them were quickly set upon by Decepticons. Battle Lines, Part 4

Back at base, he, Thunderclash, and Dion wondered why the Gyronian Sentry Team hadn't arrived with the Combaticons yet, only to discover that the Sentry Team had been AWOL for the last decacycle. A week later, Big Bang was at the walls when the Decepticons attacked the city with their new weapon Devastator. Battle Lines, Part 5 The battle was won, but not without casualties. Notes

  • Big Bang was an Autobot originally designed to act as the new Supreme Commander during the 1991 post-Zone storyline which eventually turned into Return of Convoy. Big Bang would have been the successor to Dai Atlas and led Iron Baron and Star Garry against the forces of Dark Nova (possibly Unicron, who was shown as the line's villain in early production sketches). Big Bang was later discarded in favor of the Return of Convoy angle, which resurrected Optimus Prime as Star Convoy.
  • Until 2010, Big Bang had never appeared in any official, finalized Transformers media, although what scant information there was on him could be found in the Japanese Transformers Generations Deluxe guidebook.
  • Big Bang's Animated incarnation debuted in the Allspark Almanac II a couple months ahead of the Wings character, constituting his true first appearance. It is from this incarnation that the IDW version of the character draws his color scheme.
