Peter Andrewes "Andy" Schmidt (born August 3, 1976) is a comic book writer and former Senior Editor for IDW Publishing.
Before working for IDW, he was an editor at Marvel Comics, where he handled most titles under the "Marvel Heroes" brand as well as numerous other top titles, and oversaw the multi-title "Annihilation" crossover event.
He moved to IDW Publishing in 2008, starting out editing their G.I. Joe and Star Trek titles before leaving Star Trek to work on the Transformers brand, first as co-editor, and then taking over as full editor when Denton J. Tipton moved on to other projects. To say that he was overwhelmed with how obsessive Transfans are with the continuity would be an understatement. He would create a short-lived "brain trust" of Transformers writers, modelled on the Spider-Man "Brand New Day" team, in large part to keep the continuity on track.[1]
In 2011, he was hired by Hasbro directly to work in their new HasLab division, and has since been replaced as editor on IDW's Hasbro-licensed properties by John Barber. In 2013, it was revealed that he was among the Hasbro employees who were affected by a major layoff wave a few months earlier.
He also owns and teaches at the Comics Experience school of comics in California.

Notes
Stealth bomber Megatron controversy
- According to Don Figueroa via his now-defunct Deviant Art account, he designed the stealth bomber Megatron which appeared in IDW's The Transformers #13 comic. However, he originally designed it as part of a story pitch which editor Andy Schmidt rejected. Schmidt later told Figueroa he wanted the pitched concept and the two made plans to work out a deal at the Long Beach Comic-Con. Schmidt stood Figueroa up, not attending the Comic-Con, and then proceeded to use the pitched design in The Transformers #13 with no compensation to Figueroa whatsoever. When Figueroa heard about this, and that Hasbro would be turning the design into a toy (again, with no compensation or credit), Figueroa was less than thrilled.[4]
- Presumably, Schmidt doesn't teach any ethics courses at his Comics Experience school.
