And that, son, is a cool profile picture.

Alain Dorval, born Alain Fernand Jean-Marie Bergé (August 9, 1946February 13, 2024) was a French actor and business executive.

After his studies in the Paris Conservatory of Dramatic Art, he starts a career in theater, before discovering fortuitously dubbing.

He has been very active in dubbing, being the iconic French voice of Sylvester Stallone since the first Rocky until Expandables 4 in 2024, and one of the voices of Nick Nolte (alternating with Jacques Frantz).

In animation, in addition of being the regular voice of Peg-Leg Pete since 1995, he voiced Le Gros and Le Teigneux in the French Once Upon a Time... educational series, Weaver in Antz and Tiger in the Fievel films, among other voice roles.

He is also present in voice-over for documentaries and has been the voice of French radio Skyrock between 1986 and 1997.

He first created a company specializing in the manufacture of speakers then, from the end of the 2000s, managed a company specializing in the creation of flight cases.

On February 13, 2024, Alain Dorval died from cancer at the age of 77.

Notes

  • In addition to being his French voice, Alain Dorval was born on the exact same day as Sylvester Stallone.
  • At the end of the 1980s, he raised bad criticisms of the dubbing conditions which tended to deteriorate. As a result, several studios put the actor on a black list, which led Michel Vigné and Richard Darbois dubbing Sylvester Stallone for a time, in particular in the films produced by Warner Bros. Alain Dorval fully came back as the voice of the American actor during the 2000s.
  • For unknown reasons, it's Gilles Morvan, the voice of Ironhide, who plays a pair of Ratchet's lines in the European French dubs of Revenge of the Fallen and in Dark of the Moon. Notably, it's Ironhide who says "Bumblebee, get them out of here!" after Optimus Prime's death in Revenge of the Fallen and also Ironhide who tells Sentinel Prime that's "There's nothing to fear" after his resurrection in Dark of the Moon. Alain Dorval is a pretty busy man, yknow!
  • When reminded about Robert Foxworth he dubbed as Ratchet in Transformers, he answered: "Transformers, the thing with the beasties, right? Ah yes, yes but since we can't see their faces..."[1], probably to point out that it is a little bit different to dub from the usual human actors.
