Mirna El Helbawi ni mwandishi na mwanaharakati wa habari kutoka nchini Misri[1][2]. Ni mwanzilishi wa shirika lisilo la faida la kutetea haki za binadamu huko Gaza linalo angazia upatikanaji tena wa mtandao kwa kutumia eSIM zilizochangwa (Connecting Humanity). Aliteuliwa katika kuwania tuzo za uandishi wa habari za Kiarabu (Arab Journalism Award) [3][4]mnamo mwaka 2016.

Mashambulio ya mabomu ya Israeli, vizuizi vya umeme na uhaba wa mafuta vimesababisha kukosekana kwa watoa huduma wakubwa wa mtandao katika Gaza[5]. El Helbawi aligundua kuwa eSIM zinaweza kutumika ilikuweza kuwaunganisha watu wanaoishi Gaza kuwarahisishia waweze kuziunganisha eSIM pamoja na mitandao ya mbali ya simu na mitandao ya Israeli na Misri[6][7]. Alianza kusaidia watu wawili kupata mtandao tena ambao walikua mwandishi wa habarii wa Misri, Ahmed El-Madhoun na mwandishi wa habari wa Palestina, Hind Khoudary[8].

Connecting Humanity wanadai kuwa, kufikia Desemba 2023, watu 200,000 wanaoishi Gaza (karibu asilimua 10% ya watu) waliweza kupokea mtandao kupitia eSIM. Habari za mpango huo zilienea haraka kupitia mitandao ya kijamii, na kufikia Desemba walichangisha mchango wenye thamani ya doa $1.3 milioni za eSIMs kwaajili ya Connecting Humanity[9]. Mradi huu ulitambulika na kufanywa kwa juhudi za kimataifa, huku watu katika nchi kama vile Marekani, Uswizi, na Pakistan wakichangia eSIMs. Wafadhili walitumia Airalo na Simply kutengeneza eSIM ambazo zingeweza kusambazwa Palestina[10].

Uandishi

El Helbawi aliorodheshwa kwa ajili ya kuwania tuzo za Uandishi wa Habari za Kiarabu mnamo mwaka 2016 (Arab Journalism Award). Riwaya yake ya kwanza inayoitwa Helw Methl Al Chocola (Bitter Like Coffee, Sweet Like Chocolate) ilichapishwa mwaka 2018.
