Geohistory analysis was carried out on block 10 in the Say’un-Masilah Basin. The present study is based on the analysis of the well logs of six exploration wells. In the Middle Jurassic to the Middle Eocene, Say’un-Masilah Basin exhibited a complex subsidence history over a period of about 155 Ma. Backstripped subsidence curves are constructed by removing the effects of decompaction to the water column and sediment loads. In the Middle Jurassic, slow subsidence was driven under the effect of sediment load as Kuhlan and Shuqra Formations were deposited as pre-rift deposits. The average total subsidence value of the basement during the deposition of Shuqra Formation was 276 m. The highest subsidence rates during this time are observed northeast of the study area. Rapid subsidence initiated in the Upper Jurassic driven by mechanical extension of the rift, resulting in the deposition of Madbi and Safer Formations, or the so-called Syn-rift deposits. The average tectonic subsidence value of the basements during the deposition of Madbi Formation was 368 m. The highest subsidence rates during this time are observed southwest of the study area. Mechanical extension ceased at about 145 Ma, being replaced by a phase of post-rift subsidence, resulting in more widespread uniform sedimentation, with reduced tectonic subsidence rates forming post-rift deposits represented by Nayfa Formation, Sa’ar Formation, Biyad Formation, and Mahra Group. The total subsidence value of the basement during the deposition of the post-rift sediments increases gradually due to the increase of the sediment load as the rate of deposition was high especially northeast of the area. اجريت دراسة تحليل الحوض الرسوبي علي بلوك 10 الواقع في حوض سيئون- المسيلة شرق اليمن. في هذة الدراسة تم استخدام المعطيات اللازمة من سجلات ست ابار نفطية محفورة في هذا البلوك. لوحظ من الدراسة ان حوض سيئون – المسيلة تعرض لهبوط (Subsidence) معقد خلال الفترة من الجوراسي الاوسط حتي وسط عهد الميوسين اي حوالي 155 مليون سنة. تم عمل المنحنيات التي تبين مقدار الهبوط من خلال تصحيح اثر عملية الرص (compaction) علي سماكة و مسامية التكوينات الصخرية الاصلية بعد عملية الترسيب والدفن. وجد من الدراسة انه في الجوراسي الاوسط كان الهبوط بطئ نسبيا وكان نتيجة ترسيب تكوين كحلان وتكوين شقرة كرواسب تكونت قبل عملية الخسف (Pre-Rift sediments) . كان متوسط الهبوط لصخور القاعدة (Basement) خلال ترسيب تكوين شقرة تساوي 276 متر، وظهرت اعلي قيمة خلال هذه الفترة في الجزء الشمالي الغربي من منطقة الدراسة. في الجوراسي الاعلي بدأ هبوط سريع لصخور القاعدة مدعما بحدوث قوي الشد الناتجة عن عملية الخسف و صاحب ذلك ترسيب سماكات كبيرة من تكويني مدبي والسبعتين او ما يسمي بالرواسب المصاحبة للخسف (Sy-rift sediments) وكان معدل الهبوط اثناء ترسيب تكوين مدبي 368 متر واعلي قيمة للهبوط سجلت في جنوب غرب منطقة الدراسة. قوي الشد نتيجة الخسف توقفت حوالي 145 مليون سنة واتت بعدها مرحلة لاحقة من الخسف نتج عنها ترسيب متنوع من الصخور مع نقصان كمية الهبوط التكتوني. رواسب ما بعد الخسف (Post Rift sediments) تمثلت بترسب تكوينات صخرية متنوعة بداية من نيفع والصعر والبياض وانتهاء بترسي مجموعة المهرة بتكويناتها المختلفة واهمها تكوين قشن الذي يمثل الخزان النفطي الرئيسي في الحوض. كان معدل الهبوط اثناء هذة الفترة يزداد تدريجيا مع زيادة حمل الرواسب المتكونه بعد عملية الخسف ومع زيادة ايضا معدل الترسيب وخاصة في الجزء الشمالي الشرقي من منطقة الدراسة.

Bituminous lime mudstone from the Late Tithonian--Early Barremian Naifa Formation was collected from five wells in the Shabwah depression of the southeastern Sabatayn Basin for basic organic geochemical analyses. The collected samples’ nannofossil contents were also studied. The current study preliminarily evaluated the nature of the organic matter regarding the richness and type of organic facies and their relation to oil generation potential. Most of the lime mudstone samples are organically rich and include favorable source rocks, as indicated by the high TOC content of up to 1 wt%. The presence of the warm-water index nannofossil taxa Watznaueria barnesae suggests warm climate conditions, thereby contributing to high bioproductivity that consequently enhanced organic richness. The samples are also hydrogen rich, with HI values between 302 and 740 mg HC/g TOC, resulting in two dominant organic facies of kerogen Types I and II, and are consistent with high bioproductivity of phytoplankton algae in warm-water conditions during deposition. Both geochemical maturity values T max and PI indicate that the bituminous lime mudstones are at different thermal maturity levels and range from immature to early mature stages of the oil generation window. This implies that the bituminous lime mudstones were not buried to a sufficient depth for commercial oil generation. Therefore, further exploration efforts in deeper parts of the Shabwah depression, particularly in the area around well Misah-01, are recommended.
