Fall 2025 application deadline: December 1st.

Post-BSW, Summer 2025 application deadline: December 1st.

Welcome! We are excited that you are interested in pursuing a Master of Science in Social Work (MSSW) at the Steve Hicks School of Social Work. We look forward to reviewing your application and providing support throughout the process.

Admission to the MSSW Program is competitive and requires acceptance to both the UT Austin Graduate School  and the Steve Hicks School of Social Work using a single online application. We encourage early application and completion of all requirements by the final deadline.

We welcome all individuals to apply, regardless of their race, sex, color, religious affiliation, age, marital status, sexual orientation, national origin or ancestry, or ability. In our holistic admissions process, we consider academic performance, readiness for graduate school, commitment to the field of social work and social justice as demonstrated by relevant experience working with populations served by social workers and understanding of the NASW Code of Ethics and Preamble, as well as your potential to contribute to an enriched classroom experience.

Applications are reviewed holistically. Each application is considered on its own merits and in comparison to all other applications for the year. The review process usually starts in late December, and decisions are made by late spring. All application materials must be submitted by the program’s application deadline; incomplete applications will not be considered for admission.

Once all of your application materials are uploaded and completed, the Office of Graduate Admissions (OGA) will refer your application to our school. This initial review process by OGA will take about 1-2 weeks. Your application status will say “In Review” until our program has made a final decision on your application.

After application submission, it is your responsibility to monitor your application status and ensure that all documents have been received by the university. Please visit MyStatus (EID required) to view the status of your materials.

Current BSW students applying to the Post-BSW program must submit their mid-term evaluation no later than the last working day in March.
