Sonia Feder-Lewis
I have been a professor at Saint Mary’s University for 25 years now, teaching writing and humanities courses in undergraduate, masters, and doctoral programs. For five years, I was the Undergraduate Communication Core Program Director, and Program Director of the English Language Academy, a small English as a Second Language instruction program we offered to help students improve their academic reading, writing, and speaking skills prior to beginning coursework at the university. During my time at Saint Mary’s, I have twice been honored with an Outstanding Faculty award, and in 2017, was awarded the Brother Louis Di Thomasis Award for Excellence in Teaching and sustaining the Lasallian mission. Along with my teaching, I am involved in research in two main areas, literature studies and the adult learner in the composition classroom. I have presented at many national conferences, and for the last several years have chaired a Special Interest Group on Adult Writers in Diverse Settings as part of the National Council of Teachers of English’s Conference on College Composition and Communication, as well as serving as a first stage reviewer for that peer reviewed conference. Along with these activities, I have served on the Editorial Board for the last two editions of The Bedford Guide for College Writers, and was both a consultant and contributor to the recently published Bedford Bibliography for Teachers of Adult Learners.
