SIGCSE TS 2024: Blazing New Trails in CS Education

Welcome!

The Technical Symposium on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE TS) is organized by the ACM Special Interest Group on Computer Science Education (SIGCSE) and is the organization’s flagship conference. The SIGCSE Technical Symposium addresses problems common among educators working to develop, implement and/or evaluate computing programs, curricula, and courses. The symposium provides a forum for sharing new ideas for syllabi, laboratories, and other elements of teaching and pedagogy, at all levels of instruction. The symposium provides a diverse selection of technical sessions and opportunities for learning and interaction.

SIGCSE TS 2024 will be held from 20–23 March 2024 at the Oregon Convention Center in Portland, Oregon. While SIGCSE TS 2024 will be primarily an in-person conference, there will be some limited online participation options.

Still Hybrid in 2024!

SIGCSE TS 2024 will continue to be a hybrid event. Some aspects of the conference will be only available to in-person attendees. However, online participants will be able to participate in:

• Keynotes
• A selection of panels and special sessions
• A selection of live online paper presentations
• A selection of online workshops
• Nifty Assignments
• The legendary SIGCSE Coffee Break Show
• The online conference communication platform

The remaining aspects of SIGCSE TS 2024—including BoFs, Demos, Lightning Talks, Posters, and the ACM Student Research Competition—will be offered only in person. Online registration will be significantly cheaper than in-person registration (approximately 1/3 the price) in most cases. Our hope is that this will give everyone an opportunity to present their research at the 2024 SIGCSE Technical Symposium, even if they are unable to travel, and that it will provide an affordable option to enjoy some of the symposium’s content for those that can’t attend in person.

Submission Information

We will continue to use EasyChair for SIGCSE TS 2024.

We are not requiring ACM TAPS for SIGCSE TS 2024.

We will continue to use the ACM two-column format for papers, posters, panels, special sessions, lightning talks, demos, and the ACM SRC. Workshops and Birds-of-a-feather submissions will now use forms rather than PDFs. Nifty will continue to expect a zipped folder.

New for 2024

ORCiD IDs: ACM has made a commitment to collect ORCiD IDs from all published authors (https://authors.acm.org/author-resources/orcid-faqs). All authors on each submission must have an ORCiD ID (https://orcid.org/register) in order to complete the submission process. Please make sure to get your ORCID ID in advance of submitting your work.

New Review Process for Panels, Special Sessions, and Workshops: We will be using a new review process for round-one single-anonymous tracks (Panels, Special Sessions, and Workshops). Information on that process can be found in the “Information for Reviewers” tab on any of those tracks.

Review Forms: In the interest of transparency, we have provided the text of the review form for each track as a separate tab on that track.

Author’s Checklists: to help authors create submissions that meet all the requirements for a specific track, as a separate tab on each track.

Expanded Topic List: We have expanded the topic list to include Broadening Participation in Computing as a separate set of topics. Since BPC relates to each of our other categories (Computing Topics, Education and Experience Topics, Curriculum Topics, and Methods Topics), we have given BPC its own category. We also anticipate that using these topics will better ensure that reviewers are familiar with the particular topics.

Outstanding Reviewer Awards: We plan to select a small group of paper reviewers as “outstanding reviewers” based on feedback from APCs.
