Imatra is a toun an municipality in eastren Finland, foondit in 1948 aroond three industrial dounsets near the Finnish–Roushie border. In the course o the last 50 years, this amorphous group o dounsets haes grown intae a modren industrial toun dominatit bi Lake Saimaa, the Vuoksi River an the border. It gained its municipal chairter in 1971.
On the ither side o the border, 7 kilometre (4 mi) awa frae the centre o Imatra, lees the Roushie towun o Svetogorsk. Saunt Petersburg is situatit 210 km (130 mi) tae the sootheast, Finland's caipital Helsinki is 230 km (140 mi) away an Lappeenranta, the nearest Finnish toun, is 37 km (23 mi) awa. Imatra belangs tae the historic province o Soothren Finland an the region o Sooth Karelie.
An Airt Nouveau or Jugend style castle, currently kent as Imatran Valtionhotelli, wis biggit near the rapids in 1903 as a hotel for tourists frae the Roushie Imperial caipital Saunt Petersburg.
The main employers are Stora Enso Oyj, Toun o Imatra, Ovako Bar Oy Ab an the Finnish Border Guard. As o October 2003, tot nummer o employees wis 12,423.[6] As o December 2004, 1,868 employees war employed bi the Town o Imatra.
Imatra is the birthplace o National Hockey League players Jussi Markkanen an Petteri Nokelainen.
